August 30. 2006. to discuss electrical concerns for gelling the permanent power turned on, a discussion occurred regarding the proximity 0' ductwork in Iront of the main distribution panel. As I understand the situation a 36" clear area in front of the panelboard needs to be maintained as required by the NEC. Consequently, ductwork needs to be reworked in order to mainta.n thiS clearance. If you find this solution acceptable. what we propose to do is stub the return air duct through Ihe west wall where il enters the electrical room, use the room as a free air return and duct the return through the north wall of the room inlo the 1urnace in the mechanical room. This will provide the proper clearance in front of the panelboard. We feei this is permllled per the International Mechanical Code Section 802.2.1.4.
