General Information - Poles
(Poles are available only in U.S.)
Environmental Conditions
Allluminaire / pole assemblies require proper evaluation to ensure
that th e structural integrity of the assembly is not compromised when
applied in specific wind conditions. Therefore, the basis for pole
selection in this catalog is total weight I EP A, national wind zones
and local wind conditions.
Local conditions to be aware of when selecting a pole, is the
presence of steady relatively low speed wind (10 - 30 mph),
topography and the structure the pole is installed on. Thesecondi-
tions can' enable second mode vibration to occur, which results in
material fatigue and ultimately pole failure. Straight square poles
under these conditions may have a higher incidence of failure, but
all pole types can experience second mode vibration. Currently,
there is no method to predict second mode vibration, but there are
certain locations and conditions that increase the likelihood of it
occurring.
· Low steady winds (10 - 30 mph)
· Top of parking decks
· Airports
· Bridges
· Mountain foot hills
· Large expanse of flat ground
· Low EPA load on pole
· Pole height of 25' and above
· Pole installation without luminaire
This is not a complete list. Other factors can cause second mode
vibration.
If vibration is a concern or an existing installation is experiencing
second mode vibration, there are dampening devices that can
minimize the potential for pole failure. There are many different
dampertypesthata"bsorb orcounter actthe vibration inthe pole shaft.

Warranty
If during the pole warranty period of one year,' the product
proves defective in material, workmanship, the company
shall correct, at its option, by repairing or replacing at no
charge to the purchaser, if the purchaser promptly notifies
the company. This 'warranty specifically excludes fatigue
failure or similar, phenomena associated with wind and/or
structural induced vibration.

Pol'e ,Selection Procedure
Select the luminaire and. determine the quantity required per pole.
Calculate the Effective Projected Area (EPA), which is located on the
luminaire specification sheet. For multiple luminaire assemblies, refer-
ence the EPA chart on PL-115 or visit the product selection guide on-
line at Lithonia.com for the most up to date information.
Determine the appropriate mounting method for the luminaire and
calculate the EPA, Figure 1. If the standard mounting option is selected
the EPA is included in the luminaire EPA. Only it an optional mounting
method is selected must additional EPA be calculated, (bullhorns, non-
standard arms, etc).
Add together the total EPA's of the luminaires and mounting method
along with other attachments (banners, wires, signs, etc.).
Consult the wind map on PL-l00 to determine the appropriate wind
zone for your area, reference the project specifications and consult
local building codes. Also consider any local environmental issues
which could cause second mode vibration.
Determine the pole material and shape that is required.
Refer to the "T echnicallntormation" table, Figure 2, for the following:
· Select the nominal mounting height
· Select the appropriate wind zone
. Selectthe EPA that is equal to or greater than the EPA from step 3.
· Cross check that the total weight of the luminaires and mounting
options does not exceed the designed maximum weight of the
pole.
Caution: This pole selection process is a guideline only. Lithonia Lighting
assumes no responsibilityfor selection and recommends consultation with
a qualified local individual.
Return Policy
Poles are not returnable, as stated in the new Terms and Conditions.
Match. Existing
Fo'r poles being ordered to match existing or replace poles the
original order -number must be referenced on -the new order along
with "MAEX"in ordering nomenclature. This will ensure consistency
in color, shape and component location.

One-piece extruded 6063 aluminum alloy with a T6 temper. Circum-
ferential brushed finish. The round straight tube is uniform in cross-
section down the length of the shaft.
Cast from A356 aluminum alloy and heat-treated to a T6 temper. The
base slipfits the shaft, and they are joined together'by continuous
circumferential welds at both the top and the bottom of the anchor
base to provide maximum strength at the area of critical stress.
Reinforced' hand hole having nominal dimensions of 2-3/8" x 4-1/2"
for a 4" shaft and 3" x 5" for a 4-1/2", 5" or 6" shaft is located 18" above
the base. Cover and attachment hardware provided.
Top cap provided with all drill-mount poles.
All hardware is made of 'Stainless steel.
A356 nut covers are included with each anchor base unless other-
- wise specified.
FINISH - Brushed aluminum is standard. Optional polyester powder
paint and anodizeq "finishes available.
GROUNDING
Aground lug located immediately inside the handhole is tapped for
3/8" - 16 UNC ground bolt (not supplied).

on the luminaire that is used. Refer to the Technical Data Section
of the Outdoor Binder for Drilling Templates.
4 Specify location and orientation when ordering an option is
required.
For 1st "x": Specify the height in feet above base of pole.
Example: 5ft = 5 and 20ft = 20
For 2nd "XII: Specify orientation from handhole (A,B,C,D)

· Donat erect poles without having fixtures installed.
~ Factory-supplied templates must be used when setting anchor bolts. Lithonia
will not accept claim for incorrect anchorage placement due to failure to use
factory template.
· If poles are stored outside, all protective wrapping must be removed
immediately to prevent finish damage.
· Lithoniais not responsible for the foundation design. ,
· InstallatIon requires grout to be packed under base to ensure full contact with
foundation.
