ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN, LIGHTING, AND SIGNAGE REVIEW
July 18, 1989
The Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Carmel was constructed in
1956 , and included just the sanctuary and a few support spaces .
The one story addition to the west was constructed in 1966 , which
expanded the church' s range of services to include educational
classrooms , a nursery, library, and administrative offices. The
church now finds itself in need of additional space for its
Icurrent use of the physical facilities . The solution has been to
add 5 , 548 square feet to various areas of the church to make
Itheir existing use of the building more efficient and provide the
congregation with a better quality space for worship and support
for church activities .
The additions allow an expanded narthex, add administrative
office space, an expanded library, and a number of Sunday school
Iclassrooms . In addition to the functional requirements of the
church, the site will undergo a general renovation that will
Iinclude the addition of dormers to the sanctuary, exterior finish
improvements , and site improvements . The most significant site
improvements will be the construction of additional parking
Ispaces , a retention pond for improved site drainage, new
landscaping improvements , and the construction of a new
ingress/egress drive to 103rd Street. A new ground sign will
Ialso be erected on a masonry base in front of the church along
U.S . Highway 31 .
