RECENT PROJECTS
Jobs: Researching new web-based application built for cities and towns
specifically for computers, phones and tablets. The App is designed to connect
local companies in need of employees with job-seekers both locally and from
around the nation with a convenient and easy to use system.
Tourism: Research and review of proposed new web-based application for
phones and tablets designed to more easily connect local restaurants, businesses
and events with visitors and residents seeking updated and up-to-the-minute
information as they visit Carmel.
Economic Development: Researching and developing new community project
designed to reach CEO's, executives, site-selectors and others with accurate
information about Carmel and its diverse offering of attributes. A social media
campaign is in the works, in conjunction with a volunteer community committee.
Ongoing project updates: Working now closely with video production crews to
produce scripts, filming schedules and other matters for Savor Indiana project
that will highlight Carmel to a broad audience for tourism and economic
development purposes. Also continuing to work on scripts for new Economic
Development video project; and continued monitoring of new ways to use the
power of the internet and social media to portray Carmel in a positive light to
those who seek information.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLANNING AND STRATEGY
Carmel Redevelopment Commission: Working with executive director Corrie
Meyer on a variety of new initiatives designed to further the CRC mission of
redevelopment in Carmel; including community relations, media relations, social
media outreach, research and consultation.
Invest Hamilton County: Continued work as city of Carmel representative with
leaders of Invest Hamilton County on a variety of economic development and
marketing projects. Also continue to serve as a city representative with Hamilton
County Tactical Economic Development Group to discuss strategies to market our
city and county for future economic development initiatives. This will be an
ongoing effort.
Visit Hamilton County Continue to work with officials at Visit Hamilton County on
new and ongoing initiatives designed to expand outreach to new audiences and
grow the number of tourists in Carmel. Continued focus on Indiana Bicentennial
statewide event coming in 2016. This is an ongoing effort.
Media and Press Conferences: Assisted staff with various media relations, press
conferences and news releases. In addition, provided consultation, background
information and assistance for media requests from the following: NY Times, PBS,
Huffington Post, trade publications, Travel IN, Local TV news, Indianapolis Star,
Indianapolis Business Journal, Current. Of particular note was media assistance
provided to highlight a project being carried out by one of Carmel's small high-
tech companies; and working with staff to highlight and celebrate a local
resident's success on a nationally-televised talent show.
Specific Economic Development Projects: Continued to work with Mayor
Brainard and others to attract various specific companies looking to relocate
offices and/or headquarters, including: Financial firms, corporate headquarters,
professional services firm, a major employer currently doing business in another
state, and a variety of smaller businesses. Ongoing effort. Also working with
Carmel City Center staff to develop various marketing tools to be used to lure
business and visitors to City Center offerings.
SelectUSA: Continued to work, under the direction of the Mayor, with SelectUSA
on opportunities to market the city of Carmel to an international audience of
investors and site selectors. New this month: Planning for the 2015 SelectUSA
gathering in Washington, DC, now scheduled for March 23-24.
Cultural ID project: Working with Department of Community Services on long
range plan to identify opportunities to market the city of Carmel in a variety of
ways. This is an ongoing project.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Celebrating new business: Worked with staff and others to facilitate grand
opening events and ribbon cuttings for Hoosier Salon, Tom Wood Subaru, The
Barrington and North Indy Mosquito Squad.
Social media: Continued to embellish the City's use of social media to
communicate with local residents. Increased use of city's Facebook pages and
Twitter accounts to help publicize important information of interest to the City
and its residents. Of particular note this month were timely posts regarding traffic
issues, sharing community events, three business grand openings, the city's
Memorial Day and Holocaust Remembrance ceremonies and spreading good
news about national honors for the city of Carmel.
American Songbook: Continued to work with the Center for the Performing Arts
and American Songbook Vocal Academy and Competition, to plan and discuss
strategy to help publicize the many offerings that help to bring attention and
economic development to Carmel.
Research and writing: Under the direction of the Mayor and the Director of
Community Relations and Economic Development, a great deal of research was
done on a variety of topics designed to provide accurate and updated facts and
information to a variety of sources, all geared toward increasing economic
development opportunities and showcase the city to a broader audience.
City web site: Continued working to update the city's website. This is an ongoing
effort. Special emphasis placed on areas of interest to outside business entities
exploring options to relocate; various quality of life elements.
