There are 12 mature trees being removed for additional parking, including one very large shade tree. This represents a significant loss of benefits from trees on this lot, plus the addition of a large area of impervious surface. To offset this loss, an additional 4-5 shade trees should be added to the plan. They can be added anywhere appropriate, but the perimeter of the new parking area, or an area within the front driveway"island"would be good planting areas. 2. Care needs to be taken that the trees that are to remain are not injured during the construction process. Please list the preservation details for protection of the existing trees on the plans. These can include tree preservation fencing, root pruning prior to earthwork, additional tree maintenance, etc. 3. I have an enclosed an example of how by rearranging the layout of parking spaces and limiting the spaces to 18' x 9', additional area could be found for a planting "island" of 9 foot width that could include the lighting standard, the drainage structure, and three shade trees. The number of parking spaces would remain the same. Please reply to these comments in writing and by amended plan.
