Known as the #31 BITES project; coordination of team meetings, proposed plans, strategic action, press conference, media relations and distribution of materials to assist in the project that will extend through the month of August and possibly beyond. Jobs: Finalized discussion with TweetMyJobs, developers of new web- based application built for cities and towns specifically for computers, phones and tablets, to bring the service to Carmel. Proposal is now in hand and is being considered by staff and City officials. The App is designed to connect local companies in need of employees with job-seekers both locally and from around the nation with a convenient and easy to use system. Tourism: Working with staff and Bluebridge officials to fine tune and roll out a new web-based application for cell phones and tablets designed to more easily connect local restaurants, businesses and events with visitors and residents seeking updated and up-to-the-minute information as they visit Carmel. Economic Development: Continuing to research and develop new community projects designed to reach CEO's, executives, site-selectors and others with accurate information about Carmel and its diverse offering of attributes. A social media campaign is in the works, in conjunction with a volunteer community committee. >>> Consultation and strategic planning on capitalizing on national media attention given to Carmel. Working on using that attention to create materials and supplement campaigns to attract business and corporate investment. >>> Consultation and meeting with Mary Ellison, Realtor, concerning potential uses of properties for sale in Carmel. Exploring potential to attract corporate headquarters or business investment at that location. Worked with staff to research property and zoning. >>> In conjunction with the Mayor, researching high profile properties with potential business uses; Communication with owners and/or leasing agents, working with various city staff members to offer assistance when possible. >>> Consultation and meeting with Melissa Eldredge of Allied Solutions to discuss ideas and strategies for ways the city can assist them with job- related issues they are facing. This is an ongoing matter. >>> Consult with CEO of a popular Indiana event, exploring the potential to stage future events in Carmel. >>> Launching initial meetings to discuss potential future job fair to assist local businesses with finding qualified employees to fill openings. This is an ongoing matter. >>> Working with Indy Partnership and Pedcor to supply information for a prospective business looking for land to develop commercially on the Northside of Indy or Carmel. >>> Continue to consult with owner of a central Indiana business exploring a move to Carmel. Assisting in helping to find a suitable location. >>> Meeting with local developers and Carmel Redevelopment Commission to discuss potential projects. Ongoing -project Updates >>> Savor Indiana project: First of three filming days have been completed. Working closely with video production crews to produce scripts, filming schedules and other matters for remaining two days of filming. Project will highlight Carmel to a broad audience for tourism and economic development purposes. Also continuing to work on scripts for new Economic Development video project; and continued monitoring of new ways to use the power of the internet and social media to portray Carmel in a positive light to those who seek information. >>> IUPPI Study. Continued to work with Drew Klacik and John Marron of IUPPI as they study redevelopment in Carmel for the past two decades. Major research project. Assisted with statistics and information. Worked on media release and helped to coordinate plans for outreach to community leaders to be consulted with by the researchers. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLANNING AND STRATEGY Carmel Redevelopment Commission: Continuing to work with executive director Corrie Meyer on initiatives to use social media and other ways to further the CRC mission of redevelopment in Carmel; including community relations, media relations, social media outreach, research and consultation. Invest Hamilton County: Continued work as city of Carmel representative with leaders of Invest Hamilton County on a variety of economic development and marketing projects. Visit Hamilton County Continue to work with officials at Visit Hamilton County on new and ongoing initiatives designed to expand outreach to new audiences and grow the number of tourists in Carmel. Attended Hamilton County Cities & Towns lunch at Conner Prairie to network and exchange ideas with others. Media and Press Conferences: Assisted staff with various media relations, press conferences and news releases. In addition, provided consultation, background information and assistance for media requests from the following: Huffington Post, Indianapolis Star, Current, IBJ, -Audobon Magazine, Lafayette Journal & Courier-, Indiana Minority Business Magazine, Bloomberg News, Governing Magazine and others. >>> Social media and other assistance to help publicize local events, including the Art of Wine and CarmelFest. Specific Economic Development Projects: Continued to work with Mayor Brainard and others to attract various specific companies looking to relocate offices and/or headquarters, including: Financial firms, corporate headquarters, professional services firm, a major employer currently doing business in another state, and a variety of smaller businesses. Ongoing effort. Also working with Carmel City Center staff to develop various marketing tools to be used to lure business and visitors to City Center offerings. SelectUSA: Continued to work, under the direction of the Mayor, with SelectUSA on opportunities to market the city of Carmel to an international audience of investors and site selectors. New this month: Communicated links to electronic version of major national news story that appeared in the New York Times; sent links to long list of attendees to SelectUSA. Cultural ID project: Working with Department of Community Services on long range plan to identify opportunities to market the city of Carmel in a variety of ways. This is an ongoing project. SPECIAL PROJECTS Social media: Continued to embellish the City's use of social media to communicate with local residents. Increased use of city's Facebook pages and Twitter accounts to help publicize important information of interest to the City and its residents. American Songbook: Working in conjunction with staff at the Center for the Performing Arts and American Songbook Vocal Academy and Competition, assisted with publicity of American Songbook competition, including helping with video interviews of the 12 finalists on the day of the finals. Worked with staff to to plan and discuss strategy to use the event to help bring attention and economic development to Carmel. _ Research and writing: Under the direction of the Mayor and the Director of Community Relations and Economic Development, a great deal of research was done on a variety of topics designed to provide accurate and updated facts and information to a variety of sources, all geared toward increasing economic development opportunities and showcase the city to a broader audience. >>> Research, assistance with Pillar of the Community Award presentation. >>> Research, assistance with Mayoral proclamation delivered on behalf of I a prominent local resident. >>> Research of new federal study by the Transportation Research Board centering on the effectiveness of roundabout corridors, including several in Carmel. >>> Research, assistance with Mayor's involvement with Stand With Israel gathering. City web site: Continued working to update the city's website. This is an ongoing effort.
