This will be an ongoing project involving Tim Monger and several economic development representatives from Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield and the IEDC, in addition to several corporate representatives. Midtown: Worked with local developer, city and CRC officials to plan and execute materials in support of a press conference to announce a major new economic development project; Assisted staff with media relations. >>> In a related matter, met with local resident concerning the possible future organization of a downtown residential group with an interest in developing a support organization to continue positive changes in the Midtown and Old Town areas. This will be an ongoing project. #31 BITES: Continued efforts to assist businesses along-US 31 corridor. - August campaign extended into September; additional efforts made to encourage support of local restaurants and shops. Using social media heavily to spread the word and develop a community-wide buzz of excitement over supporting local businesses along U.S. 31. #31 BITES work included coordination of team meetings, proposed plans, strategic action, press conference, media relations and distribution of materials. Cultural Identification project: Began working with staff and others on project designed to further identify various cultural and geographically unique aspects of Carmel as a way to further enhance attraction of economic development and visitors. This will be an ongoing project. Public Art: Met with consultant, along with staff, to discuss potential projects involving public art in Carmel. All projects discussed were designed to strategically attract visitors and economic development to Carmel. This will be an ongoing project. Google Business View: Continued working with staff on vetting a proposal by a local firm regarding an economic development tool that may help promote local businesses, local attractions and other features of Carmel, with the goal of capitalizing on the power of Google to highlight our local businesses and attractions. This is an ongoing matter. Clay Terrace: Working with management at Clay Terrace on matters pertaining to development and on a special project involving an upcoming holiday attraction. This is part of increased working relationships between the City of Carmel and corporate ownership of the mail. Jobs App: Continue to work with staff to explore options to launch a TweetMyJobs app; including looking into other potential services. Developers of new web-based application built for cities and towns specifically for computers, phones and tablets, to bring the service to Carmel. Proposal is still being considered by staff and City officials. The App is designed to connect local companies in need of employees with job- seekers both locally and from around the nation with a convenient and easy to use system. Tourism App: Continued_meetings_with staff; consultation and working_ with Bluebridge officials to fine tune and roll out a new web-based application for cell phones and tablets designed to more easily connect local restaurants, businesses and events with visitors and residents seeking updated and up-to-the-minute information as they visit Carmel. Economic Development: Also in September: >>> Consultation and assistance with local firm seeking help with publicity regarding various positive business matters along with the announcement of a significant number of job openings. >>> Additional consultation with Mayor on a national firm considering an economic development investment in Carmel. >>> Research of more high profile properties with potential business uses; Communication with owners and/or leasing agents, working with various city staff members to offer assistance when possible. >>> Continued consultation with CEO of a popular Indiana event, exploring the potential to stage future events in Carmel. >>> Continued efforts to work with Indy Partnership and Pedcor to supply information for a prospective business looking for land to develop commercially in Carmel. >>> Meeting with local developers and Carmel Redevelopment Commission to discuss potential projects. Ongoing project updates >>> Savor Indiana project: Continuing to monitor the editing and production phases of this film project. Project will highlight Carmel to a broad audience for tourism and economic development purposes. Also continuing to work on scripts for new Economic Development video project; and continued monitoring of new ways to use the power of the internet and social media to portray Carmel in a positive light to those who seek information. >>> IUPPI Study. Continued to work with Drew Klacik and John Marron of IUPPI as they study redevelopment in Carmel for the past two decades. Major research project. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLANNING AND STRATEGY Express Bus: Met with staff and officials from Central Indiana Regional Transportation to discuss broad ideas and city support for express commuter bus service connecting Carmel to downtown Indianapolis. Discussed various methods of increasing awareness through marketing, advertising and social media. This will be an ongoing project. Carmel Redevelopment Commission: Consultation and support for executive director Corrie Meyer on a number of initiatives to further the CRC mission of redevelopment in Carmel; including community relations, media relations, social media outreach, research and consultation. >>> This month included consultations on media relations, site selections, future projects and other matters. Visit Hamilton County Continue to work with officials at Visit Hamilton County on ongoing initiatives designed to expand outreach to new audiences and grow the number of tourists in Carmel. This month included continued discussion and consultation regarding sign issues along interstates and highways; and helping to set up a meeting with a new group of hotel industry leaders and the Mayor. IEDC: Worked with state officials regarding the dissemination of news about exciting local projects. Media and Press Conferences: Worked with Indianapolis and Greenwood officials to present a press conference regarding a new bus rapid transit plan for central Indiana. Attended conference at Indianapolis Arts Garden with Mayor Brainard and city, state and federal officials. >>> Attended MIBOR event in Carmel; assisted staff with presentation by City of Carmel and Mayor Brainard; met with a variety of real estate professionals interested in current and future Carmel development projects. >>> Provided consultation and assistance to staff and other city officials regarding upcoming rollout of Storm Water Utilities communication to local residents and businesses. An ongoing project. >>> Worked with staff and other contractors to produce travel story and advertising package for statewide publication. >>> Met with new Carmel Clay Schools media relations manager _ ___along with.staff to-discuss ways.city.and school. officials can coordinate.on a number of matters involving publicity and media relations. >>> Met with staff and new Indianapolis Star reporters to discuss various matters such as story ideas and coverage of news. >>> Worked with staff and community volunteers to assist with promotion and media coverage of Porchfest, Carmel on Canvas and Carmel International Arts Festival. >>> Worked with staff to publicize and provide media relations for city's Main Street construction project. >>> Assisted staff with various media relations, press conferences and news releases. In addition, provided consultation, background information and assistance for media requests from the following: Indianapolis Star, Current, IBJ, Inside Indiana Business, WISH-TV, WXIN- TV, WTHR-TV, WRTV-TV, Money Magazine, Governing Magazine and others. >>> Social media and other assistance to help publicize local events, including many events coming up in September. Specific Economic Development Projects: Continued to work with Mayor Brainard and others to attract various specific companies looking to relocate offices and/or headquarters, including: Financial firms, corporate headquarters, professional services firm, a major employer currently doing business in another state, and a variety of smaller businesses. Ongoing effort. Also continued working with Carmel City Center staff to develop various marketing tools to be used to lure business and visitors to City Center offerings. SelectUSA: Continued to work, under the direction of the Mayor, with SelectUSA on opportunities to market the city of Carmel to an international audience of investors and site selectors. Cultural ID project: Working with Department of Community Services on long range plan to identify opportunities to market the city of Carmel in a variety of ways. This is an ongoing project. SPECIAL PROJECTS Social media: Continued to embellish the City's use of social media to communicate with local residents. Increased use of city's Facebook pages and Twitter accounts to help publicize important information of interest to the City and its residents. Research and writing: Under the direction of the Mayor and the Director of Community Relations and Economic Development, research was done on a variety of topics designed to provide accurate and updated facts and information to a variety of sources, all geared toward increasing economic development opportunities and showcase the city to a broader audience. >>> Research, assistance with Carmel's green initiatives City web site: Continued working to update the city's website.
