SECTION 111300 - LOADING DOCK EQUIPMENT
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Section includes:
1. Dock bumpers.
2. Dock levelers.
3. Pit Forming Kit.
4. Dock seals.
B. Related Work:
1. Concrete work for dock levelers is specified in Division 03.
2. Curb angles at the edge of the loading dock and around the edge of the dock leveler pit
are specified in Division 05.
1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. Product data for each type of loading dock equipment specified, including details of
construction relative to materials, dimensions of individual components, profiles, and finishes.
Include rated capacities of each loading dock leveler.
B. Shop drawings detailing fabrication and installation of loading dock equipment. Include plans,
elevations, and large-scale details showing layout and types of equipment required. Show
anchorages and accessory items.
1. Provide location template drawings for items supported or anchored to permanent
construction.
2. Furnish roughing-in drawings for electrical service well in advance of concrete work.
C. Maintenance data for loading dock equipment to include in Operating and Maintenance
Manuals. Include name, address, and telephone number of the manufacturer's nearest
authorized service representative. Also, provide manufacturer’s maintenance videotape to
AETOS.
1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Installer Qualifications: Engage an experienced Installer who is an authorized representative of
the loading dock equipment manufacturer for both installation and maintenance of the type of
equipment required for this Project.
B. Manufacturer Qualifications: A firm experienced in manufacturing loading dock equipment
similar to that indicated for this Project and that has a record of successful in-service
performance.

C. Dock Leveler Standard: Comply with applicable requirements of ASME/ANSI MH14.1 for
construction and operation of dock levelers and dockboards.
D. Design Criteria: The drawings indicate sizes, profiles, and dimensional requirements of the
various items of loading dock equipment and are based on the specific types and models
indicated. General Contractor and Subcontractor shall field verify conditions at the site before
ordering loading dock equipment.
1.4 WARRANTIES
A. Dock Leveler Warranty: Submit a written warranty, executed by the manufacturer, agreeing to
repair or replace loading dock equipment components that fail in materials or workmanship
within the specified warranty period.
1. Dock leveler parts covered under the 10 year structural warranty shall include: Lip
Assembly and Front Hinge Assembly, Rear Hinges and Hinge Pins, Imbedded Frame,
Platform Assembly, Main Lifting Springs, Front Hinge Assembly.
2. Warranty Period: All parts not covered under the 10-Year Structural Warranty shall have
a 1 year parts, 1 year labor warranty.
B. In addition to all other warranties, the manufacturer shall warrant that the equipment will
perform in a manner satisfactory for a period of 12 months after date of installation. If Owner is
not then satisfied with the performance of the equipment is not considered acceptable by the end
user, the Owner may notify the manufacturer, and the manufacturer shall remove the equipment
and refund the equipment purchase price.
C. The warranty shall not deprive the rights under other provisions of the Contract Documents and
will be in addition to and run concurrent with other warranties made by the General Contractor
and Subcontractor under requirements of the Contract Documents.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS
Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products as follows, no
substitutions. Contact: Bob Polak – Timbers-Kovar Co. Phone: (440) 951-1210.
1. Manufacturer of Bumpers: Durable Corporation.
2. Manufacturer of Dock Levelers: Rite-Hite Corp.
3. Manufacturer of Pit Forming Kit: Rite-Hite Corp.
4. Manufacturer of Dock Seals and Shelters: Frommelt Industries, Inc.
2.2 DOCK BUMPERS
A. Laminated Tread Bumpers: Provide four (4) bumpers per dock. Provide Dura-Dock B4512-18
laminated-tread dock bumper units of 4-1/2 inches thick by 12 inches high by 18 inches wide,
fabricated from multiple plies cut from fabric-reinforced rubber tires to a uniform thickness of
4-1/2 inches. Laminate plies under 1500 pounds of pressure on 3/4-inch diameter steel

supporting rods that are welded and bolted to 1/4-inch thick structural steel angle closures with
predrilled anchor holes. Size angles to provide not less than 1 inch of tread plies extending
beyond the face of the closure angles. Metal components shall be hot-dip galvanized.
B. Anchorage Devices: Provide anchor bolts, nuts, washers, bolts, sleeves, cast-in-plate and other
anchorage devices as required to fasten bumpers securely in place and suit installation type
indicated. Furnish anchorage components that are hot-dip galvanized.
2.3 DOCK LEVELERS
A. Air Powered Dock Levelers shall be manufactured by Rite-Hite, or an approved substitute.
Dock levelers shall be sized by the manufacturer to meet the warranty requirements specified
herein.
B. Recessed adjustable dock levelers shall be 7' wide by 8' long, with a minimum 20" lip and a
30,000 lb. capacity rating. Unit to have a nominal operational range of 12” above and below
dock level. Equip each unit with two (2) 12” high x 4” deep dock bumpers, and side nylon
brush weatherseal kit.
C. Dock leveler shall meet ANSI MH30.1-2000 test load specifications with proper documentation
from a 3rd party.
D. Platform shall have a minimum of (8) interior deck beams plus external working range
toeguards.
E. Levelers shall be equipped with safety legs to limit the free fall to 2” below dock level.
F. Levelers shall utilize cylindrical polyurethane fabric air tower to raise the platform deck. Air
tower fabric shall not come in contact with the floor of the leveler pit during operation or at rest.
G. Automatic night locks to be integral part of manufacturer’s standard dock levelers.
H. Full operating range telescoping toe guards to close off sides when leveler is in the highest
upward position. Working range of 12”.
I. Positive maintenance support system will support lip and deck.
J. Levelers shall have ramp flex of 4” to compensate for unlevel trailer beds. Rear hinges shall be
fixed and shall not rise above floor level.
K. Dock leveler control box: All individual components, as well as the complete box unit, shall be
UL-approved.
L. Air tower shall be free floating from bottom of deck to allow easy cleaning of pit without
manufacturer-supplied tools.
M. Finish and Color: Provide the manufacturer's standard baked enamel finish over steel surfaces
that have been cleaned and pretreated to obtain optimum paint bond. Paint toe guards yellow to

comply with ANSI Z53.1, and paint the remainder of the surfaces in the manufacturer's standard
color.
N. Accessories: Equip units with the manufacturer's standard accessories as follows:
1. Side and rear weatherseals, NB-1.
2. Needle bearings and grease fittings on lifter arm.
3. Grease fittings on lip hinge.
2.4 PIT FORMING KIT
A. Dok-Box Pit Forming Kit shall be manufactured by the Rite-Hite Corporation, Dok-Box shall
be sized by manufacturer to suit the size of leveler specified.
B. Dok-Box shall include:
1. One (1) rear panel – 9 ga. Formed steel
2. Two (2) side panels – 9 ga. Formed steel – 1” diameter hole is drilled at the back of each
panel to permit electrical hook-up for hydraulic units.
3. One (1) front and one (1) rear steel squaring support members with dowels (to be
removed after installation).
4. One (1) 2” x 4” lumber spacer assembly (to be removed after installation).
5. One (1) 4” x 4” front curb angle.
C. All members utilize “Quick-Hook” feature for easy, time-saving connections.
D. New Construction Dok-Box units to include pre-punched holes (three (3) in bottom flange of
each side panel) to allow for convenient assembly and set-up with no welding.
E. Concrete anchors shall be supplied as an integral part of all panels, curb angle and optional
plates. Side and rear panel anchors shall be 1-1/2” x 9 ga. steel welded on 16” centers.
F. All Dok-Box components to be painted with one (1) coat gray primer visible on all sides.
2.5 DOCK SEALS
A. General: Dock Seal shall be manufactured by Rite-Hite. Seal shall be sized by manufacturer to
meet specific application requirements. Provide TP-903FPHS dock seals consisting of
fabric-covered foam pads designed to compress under pressure of the truck body to form an
air-tight seal at the jambs and head of loading dock openings.
B. Size of Jamb Pads: Provide jamb pads not less than 12 inches wide and 20 inches deep, sized to
suit opening height. Beveled side pads shall provide a tight seal between the back of the trailer
and the building wall. Bottom of side pads shall have punched hole breathers.
C. Size and Type of Adjustable Head Curtain: Head curtain shall be adjustable with pull ropes,
curtain splits, and velcro attachment to seal top of trailer. Head curtain shall be constructed
with square steel tube front bar, spring steel stabilizers, and stay stiffeners.

D. Construction: Provide the manufacturer's standard construction consisting of single- or
double-ply, coated, fabric-covered, urethane-foam core with supporting frame.
1. Cover Fabric: Hypalon-coated nylon cover fabric with total minimum weight of 16 oz.
per sq. yd.
2. Guide Strips: 4-inch-wide, coated, nylon guide strips on the jamb pads.
3. Pleated Protectors: Hypalon-coated nylon cover fabric with total minimum weight of 40
oz. per sq. yd. Provide overlapping protector layers on the face of jamb pads with 4 inch
exposure.
4. Colors: Black with yellow guide stripe.
5. Wood Support Frame: Select structural-grade dimension lumber according to PS 20,
pressure-treated with waterborne preservatives to comply with AWPB LP-2, kiln-dried
and factory-painted, with steel mounting hardware.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
A. General: Coordinate installation of loading dock equipment indicated to be attached to or
recessed into concrete or masonry, and furnish anchoring devices with templates, diagrams, and
instructions for their installation.
B. Coordinate delivery of anchoring devices to Project Site to avoid delaying progress.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. General: Comply with manufacturer's detailed instructions for installing loading dock
equipment.
B. Dock Bumpers: Attach dock bumpers to the structure in a manner that complies with
requirements indicated for spacing, arrangement, and position relative to top of platform and
anchorage.
C. Welded Attachment: Plug-weld anchor holes in contact with steel inserts and fillet-weld at
other locations.
D. Dock Levelers: Coordinate forming the pit for dock levelers to ensure that the recess is
adequate to accommodate the leveler in proper relationship to the loading platform. Attach
leveler securely to the loading platform construction according to the manufacturer's directions.
E. Pit Forming Kit: Installer shall examine the substrate and conditions under which pit forming is
to be installed and notify the A/E and Contractor in writing of any conditions detrimental to the
proper and timely completion of the work. Do not proceed with the work until unsatisfactory
conditions have been corrected in a manner acceptable to the installer.

F. Dock Seals: Securely attach supporting frames to the building structure in proper relationship
to openings, dock bumpers, and dock levelers to ensure compression of dock seals when trucks
are positioned against dock bumpers.
ADJUST AND CLEAN
A. Make necessary adjustments for safe, efficient operation of loading dock equipment.
B. After installation, restore marred, abraded surfaces to the original condition.
3.3 DEMONSTRATION
A. Start-Up Services: Provide the services of a factory-authorized service representative of the
manufacturer to provide start-up service and to demonstrate and train the end user’s
maintenance personnel.
1. Test and adjust controls and safeties. Replace damaged or malfunctioning controls and
equipment.
2. Train the end user’s maintenance personnel on procedures and schedules related to
start-up and shutdown, troubleshooting, servicing, and preventive maintenance.
3. Review data in Operating and Maintenance Manuals. Refer to Division 1 Section
"Subcontract Closeout."
4. Schedule training with the end user, through Owner, with at least 7 day's advanced
notice.
