SECTION 260000
ELECTRICAL GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SECTION INCLUDES
A. Basic electrical requirements specifically applicable to Division 26 Sections, in conjunction with the
requirements of Division 1 – General Requirements, and Division 2 through 23.
B. Provide items, articles, materials, operations, or methods listed, mentioned, implied, intended, or
scheduled, on Contract Drawings, and herein, including all labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals
necessary and required, for completion.
C. Electrical Contractor shall be entirely responsible for equipment and associated appurtenances furnished
by him or his Contractors in connection with the work; and special care shall be t aken to protect parts
thereof in such a manner as may be necessary or as may be directed.
D. Raceways and Cabling: Conduit and cabling for electrical systems to be concealed in new or existing
construction in finished areas.
E. Provide final connection of equipment supplied and installed by other Prime contracts, and in accord with
requirements of Section 01311.
F. The building electrical service shall be 277/480 volts, three phase, four wire, wye connected .

1.04 SUBMITTALS
A. After award of the Subcontract, the Contractor shall submit Shop Drawings for approval to the
Construction Representative in accordance with Section 01300 on the following items:
1. Conduit, building wire and cable.
2. Materials other than listed in Specifications.
B. Submit two copies of certificates of approval and inspection by regulatory agencies, prior to final
acceptance of the work by the Architect/Engineer.
C. Submit any samples or additional technical data as requested by the Construction Representative.

1.05 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
A. Codes and Standards:
1. Electrical equipment, materials, installation and workmanship shall comply with all State and
local building codes, safety and fire law regulations at the location of the Work and shall conform
to the latest edition of the applicable codes and standards of the organi zations listed.
a. National Electrical Code (NEC).
b. Underwriters' Laboratories (UL).
c. National Building Code (BOCA).
d. Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
e. American National Standards Institute, Inc. (ANSI).
f. National Fire Protection Associatio n (NFPA).
g. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).
h. Insulated Power Cable Engineers Association (IPCEA).
i. Association of Edison Illuminating Companies (AEIC).
j. Occupational Safety and Health Act.
k. Americans With Disabilities Act.
2. Where the Contract requires the Work, or any part of the same, to be above the standards required
by applicable laws, ordinances, rules and regulations and other statutory provisions pertaining to
the Work, such Work shall be performed and completed in accordance with the Contract
requirements.
3. Should any changes in the Specifications and Drawings be necessary to conform to the
requirements of any of the above mentioned codes or standards the Contractor shall so notify the
Construction Representative.
B. Drawings Required by Governing Authorities: Prepare any detailed diagrams or drawings which may be
required by the governing authorities.
C. Permits, Certificates, Inspections, Fees and Cost of Utilities:
1. The Contractor shall obtain and make payments for all permits, licenses , and certificates required
for its Work.
2. Following completion of the Work, the Contractor shall obtain certificates of approval from the
responsible agencies concerned with the Work. Provide copy to the Construction Representative.
3. Arrange for timely ins pections required for Work under this section.
4. Carry all Utility Company and Municipal back charges for all materials furnished and Work
performed in conjunction with this Subcontract, and pay same to the respective agency upon
demand.
D. Make changes required by Applicable Laws, Ordinances, codes, and enforcing Authorities. Make
changes as recommended by the Architect/Engineer and approved by the Owner and without any
additional cost to the Owner.
1.06 MATERIAL STANDARDS
A. All materials furnished under this Spec ification shall be new and shall conform to the standards of
Underwriters' Laboratories Inc., where standards have been established for the materials specified.
B. Where material standards have not been established by UL, standards of quality and performance shall
be those of the specified manufacturers.
1.07 COORDINATION OF WORK

A. The electrical Work shall be coordinated with the work of other trades to prevent interferences and so
that progress in construction of the building will in no way be retarded.
B. Refer to other Sections of these Specifications and Drawings for related work, which may affect the
Work of this section.
C. The Contractor shall indicate exact locations of floor boxes, pull boxes and underfloor ducts on "as -
built" record Drawings.
1.08 DRAWINGS
A. The Specifications supplement the Drawings and provide information pertaining to the methods and
materials to be used in the execution of the Work. When a discrepancy occurs between the two, the
stricter of the two will govern.
B. All electrical equipment such as junction and pull boxes, panelboards, switches, controls and such other
apparatus as may require maintenance and operation from time to time, shall be made easily accessible
and properly labeled.
C. The Contractor shall examine all contract and reference Drawings, and verify and properly coordinate
the placement of outlets. Contractor shall also check all Drawings including mechanical Drawings and
Shop Drawings for apparatus for which Contractor must rough -in and to which Contractor must connect.
1.09 LOCATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
A. The location and dimensions of electrical equipment shown on the plans shall be considered as
approximate and diagrammatic only. The Contractor shall determine the exact locations, subject to
approval of the Construction Represen tative to meet field conditions, avoid interference with other
equipment and service or for other sufficient reasons. The right to make any reasonable change in
location of equipment before installation is reserved by the Construction Representative.
1.10 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL
A. Factory Tests: The Contractor shall ensure that all materials and equipment specified in this section have
been given standard commercial test prior to shipment.
1.11 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Equipment and Materials Tests:
1. Contractor Conducted Tests.
a. The Contractor shall test, and record results of all feeder conductors. Tests shall be
performed using 5000 volt megger for one minute. All transformers, motors, loads and
sources shall be disconnected during tests.
b. Operate all systems and equipment to ensure that systems and components function in
conformance with the requirements of these Specifications.
B. The Contractor shall furnish all instruments required for these tests. The Contractor shall submit test
results within 24 hours to the Construction Representative.
C. If inspection of materials installed shows defects, such defective work, materials and/or equipment shall
be replaced at no cost to Owner or the End User and the inspection and tests shall be repeated.

1.12 FLASHING, CUTTING, PATCHING, FIREPROOFING AND WATERPROOFING
A. Flashing around all electrical items penetrating roof or exterior walls shall be the responsibility of the
Contractor.
B. Cutting of all surfaces, including core drilling of walls and slabs, shall be the responsibil ity of this
Contractor. Openings through new wall surfaces will be provided by Owner if Contractor gives suitable
notice as erection of surface proceeds. If suitable notice is not given, Contractor shall then be
responsible for cost of corrective work re quired.
C. Patching shall be the responsibility of this Contractor.
D. The Contractor shall hire the Project roofing, masonry, flooring, painting, gypsum wallboard, and other
Contractors regularly engaged in the type of work and surfaces to be cut and patched.
E. The Contractor shall fireproof, waterproof and seal all openings in slabs and walls.
1.13 PROTECTION AND CLEANING
A. Protection:
1. Be responsible for the maintenance and protection of all material and equipment furnished during
all phases of construction from lo ss, damage or deterioration until Project completion. All
materials and equipment on the job site shall be suitably stored and protected from the weather.
2. During the progress of the Work all pipe and equipment openings shall be temporarily closed to
prevent obstruction and damage.
B. Cleanup:
1. After installation, equipment with factory finished surfaces shall be cleaned and damaged spots
touched up with the same type paint applied at the factory.
2. Keep the job site free from accumulation of waste material and rubbish to the satisfaction of the
Construction Representative. At the completion of the Work remove all rubbish, construction
equipment and surplus materials from the site and leave the premises in a clean condition.
1.14 GUARANTEE
A. Keep entire portion of the Work in repair without expense to Owner or the End User as far as concerns
defects in workmanship or materials for a period of not less than one year from the date of Project
completion, unless specifically indicated otherwise.
B. Contractor shall warran ty lamps and ballasts for a period of 60 days after Grand Opening. Five days
prior to warranty expiration date Contractor shall return to the store to do a complete inventory and
replacement of all non-functioning lamps and ballasts.
C. For Equipment Furnished by Owner, and installed by the Contractor , Distribution Equipment,
Contractor Shall Be Responsible for the Following:
1. Contractor shall warranty installation and replacement during guarantee period. Labor only.
2. Contractor shall coordinate and a dhere to all delivery dates as scheduled by Owner and shall
provide secure storage for equipment until installation. The Contractor shall inform the
Construction Representative’s office of all deliveries that do not arrive as scheduled and
reschedule as directed by Owner.
3. Owner will provide equipment catalog cuts to Contractor along with contact person and telephone
number for coordination of equipment delivery to site.

4. Owner Furnished Equipment: In addition, the Contractor shall act as Owner’s agent fo r all Owner
supplied equipment warranty services including: problem diagnosis, securing replacement
components and replacement labor costs. The equipment manufacturer shall furnish all replacement
parts. In the event Owner-furnished equipment fails after 30 days, Owner will contact the
Contractor. The Contractor shall proceed in accordance with the following:
1. Advise Equipment Manufacturer's Representative immediately and secure warranty claim
number. An Equipment Manufacturers contact list with name s and telephone numbers is
available by contacting Owner Equipment Purchasing Department. The warranty reimbursement
request form is provided at the end of this section.
2. Document model, serial and part number or description of failed component.
3. Obtain and install replacement component.
4. Bring system back to original operating condition.
5. Deliver failed components to authorized manufacturer’s representative.
6. Assist in any technical support required in securing warranty claims.
7. Upon completion of repairs covered under any warranty, a detailed work-slip outlining the
service performed with authorized store signature and the warranty reimbursement request form
with warranty claim number shall be submitted to equipment manufacturer for claim payment
and a copy shall be sent to Owner’s Refrigeration Purchasing Specialist. Timely and proper
documentation is imperative. Failure to submit an invoice within 30 days of performing service
and/or failure to follow these procedures will result in non-compensation. This procedure is
intended to assist in compensating the Contractor as well as providing the manufacturer with
product quality defect documentation and responsibility.
1.15 INSTRUCTION OF END USER’S PERSONNEL
A. Provide Operation and Maintenance Manual s containing manufacturer's operating instructions and
wiring diagrams of all equipment furnished under this contract.
B. Operation and Maintenance Manual shall include approved Shop Drawings and spare parts lists.
C. Comply with provisions of Division 1, Contract Closeout.
1.16 RECORD DRAWINGS
A. Owner will provide two sets of black or blue line on white Drawings to maintain and submit record
which shall at all times, be accurate, clear and complete, showing the actual location of all equipment as
installed. The record Drawings shall show dimensioned locations based on column line grids of all the
underground lines plus accurate wiring diagrams of all power, light and the other systems. The "As
Built" Drawings shall show the outlet from which homerun is taken, and the location of all junction
boxes and access panels. These Drawings shall be available to the Construction Representative’s field
representatives at all times.
B. Any addenda, sketches and supplementary Drawings issued during the course of construction shall be
attached to the "As Built" Drawings.
C. At the completion of the Subcontract, transfer to the second set of drawings all changes marked in
colored pencil and submit to the Construction Representative. The "As Built" Drawings and the original
Contract documents shall be used to make the final inspection of the Work completed under the
Subcontract.
D. After approval of these "As Built" Drawings, photo reproductions of the original tracings shall be
revised to incorporate all changes on the "As Built" D rawings. These photo reproductions shall be
certified as correct and delivered to the Owner Representative along with two sets of black line prints.

Sepia reproducibles will not be accepted as record Drawings. Submit a copy of scanned, full size, color
record drawings on CD to Engineer and Architect.
E. The Contractor shall pay for all costs related to these Specifications.
F. Comply with provisions of Division 1, Contract Closeout.
1.17 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
A. Furnish, place and maintain proper guards for the prevention of accidents and any other necessary
construction required to secure the safety of life and property. See Section 01040 for additional
requirements.
1.18 SUBSTITUTIONS
A. The base bid shall be based on the materials or products as specified. Whenever in the Specifications a
particular article is specified by particular name or names, the bidder shall base its bid on one of the
above. See Section 01630 for additional requirements.
1.19 IDENTIFICATION
A. Provide laminated phenolic nameplates on all disconnec t switches, etc., as furnished under this or other
sections. Nameplates shall identify function of device, space controlled, voltage conditions, fuse size,
panel serving switch, etc., as indicated or required without abbreviations. Details shall be as ap proved.
Nameplates shall be screwed or riveted in place, black phenolic with white engraving. For starters and
disconnect switches, lettering shall be minimum of 1/4" high.
1. Nameplates on switches shall have the following information:
a. Line 1 – Equipment controlled.
b. Line 2 – Panel and circuit number.
B. Provide tags on each end of all pull wires, giving location of other end.
C. Conductors throughout the building including feeder conductors, conductors in conduits and conductors
in Trenches Shall Have Color to Identify Voltage and Service Supplied in Accordance with the
Following:
1. Bonding conductors 480 Y 277 - Green.
2. Standard eq uipment grounding conductors - Green
3. Grounded circuit conductors 480 Y 277 volt circuits - Gray.
4. Phase conductors of 277/480 volt systems - Brown, Orange, Yellow.
5. All circuit conductors of the same color shall be connected to the same ungrounded feeder
conductor throughout the installation. Where conductors larger than #6 AWG are installed, the
Contractor shall install identifying adhesive bands 3/4" wide of colors indicated above around
each conductor within six inches (6") and twelve inches (12") of each end and at a maximum of
five foot (5') intervals along wireways, at back of panelboards, etc., where conductors are
accessible.
6. Conductor color coding shall be permanently posted at the main switchboard .
D. All circuit conductors, whether comprising 2 wire, 3 wire or 4 wire circuits, shall be grouped and tagged
at all panels, pull boxes, junction boxes, wireways, etc. It is the intention that all ungrounded circuit
conductors, bonding conductors and isolated ground conductors be included in these groupings.
