Story by Alan Neuhauser, who has previously written about Carmel, cited
Mayor Brainard and Carmel: "Changes to their design — combined with
local political action — can help achieve the, carbon reductions that are
often far harder to accomplish on the national and international level, says
Brainard of Carmel (population: 86,000), who has long advocated cities'
role in reducing global warming."

Activities
• Arranged for interview (cited above) with Alan Neuhauser of US
News and World Report. Also, pressed Alan on picking up the
"sprawl" story for which he interviewed the Mayor several months
ago.
• Reconnected with Eric Iravani, director of the annual P3 Conference,
drawing scores of private developers among others, about a
speaking engagement for the Mayor for next year's conference.
• Finalized and participated in the meeting for the.Mayor with the CEO
of Cureatr, Inc., a New York City-based medical software firm
expanding its Midwest presence by leasing space in Carmel.
Discussions focused on growing that presence in Carmel by helping
to recruit qualified software engineers, and possibly hosting a
recruitment event in Carmel for Cureatr and other companies such
as American Specialty health.
• Finalized and participated in the Mayor's presentation to the staff of
the Project for Public Spaces, an international planning organization
based in New York City.
• Arranged and participated in a lunch for the mayor with Kim Larsen,
the reporter who did the lengthy "On Earth" profile of the Mayor and
Carmel last year. She began to explore another Carmel-related story
she might do for other publications for which she works.
Provided background and other information to Abigail Smith,
reporter for/WPNews following her interview with Mayor Brainard on
Carmel and its response to climate change.
August Work Plan
• Finalize arrangements for Mayor's early September speaking
engagement about Carmel before the Westchester County, NY
Municipal Officials Association.
• Arrange September appointments for the Mayor with media and/or
site selection consultants when he travels to New York for speaking
engagement noted above.
• Continue follow up with reporters on the interviews previously
conducted.
2
ROB DEROCKER
• Further merchandise recent stories on Carmel in attempt to generate
additional media coverage
• Continue outreach to site consultants with Carmel and an invitation
for them to consider Carmel for the corporate expansions and
relocations they are managing.
e Share (with the Mayor and Nancy Heck) appropriate media leads that
come my way; follow up appropriately.
• Continue outreach for potential speaking engagements for the Mayor
in business and economic development forums.
