Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section Includes cellular pvc trim boards: 1. Exterior running trim, flat panels, and soffits. 2. Frieze, cornice, dentil, mouldings, and miscellaneous shapes. 1.3 DEFINITIONS A. Plastic fabrications consist of moulded urethane components as specified herein and as shown on the drawings 1.4 REFERENCES A. ASTM D 792 – Density and Specific Gravity of Plastics by Displacement. B. ASTM D 570 – Water Absorption of Plastics. C. ASTM D 638 – Tensile Properties of Plastics. D. ASTM D 790 – Flexural Properties of Unreinforced and Reinforced Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials. E. ASTM D 5420 – Standard Test Method for Impact Resistance of Flat, Rigid Plastic Specimen by means of a Striker Impacted by a Falling Weight. F. ASTM D 256 – Determining the Pendulum Impact Resistance of Plastics. G. ASTM D 696 – Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion of Plastics Between -30 deg.C and 30 deg.C with a Vitreous silica Dilatometer. H. ASTM D 635 - Rate of Burning and/or Extent and Time of Burning of Plastics in a Horizontal Position. I. ASTM D 648 – Deflection Temperature of Plastics under Flexural Load in the Edgewise Position. PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 06 60 00 - PEDCOR SQUARE Date 12.18.15 PLASTIC FABRICATIONS PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 1.5 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. General Performance: Plastic fabrications shall conform to performance and physical characteristics as referenced in Section 2.1 Materials without failure due to defective manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction. 1.6 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for plastic fabrications. B. Shop Drawings: For plastic fabrications. Include plans, elevations, sections, details, and attachments to other work. C. Samples for Initial Selection: For each type of plastic fabrication trim piece- 6 inch x 6 inch with factory-applied color finishes where requested by Architect. 1. Include similar Samples of joint material and accessories involving color selection. D. Samples for Verification: For each type of plastic fabrication indicated. E. Product Schedule: For specified product if requested by Architect. Use same designations indicated on Drawings. F. Qualification Data: For qualified manufacturer or fabricator. G. Material Certificates: For each type of material or product, from manufacturer. H. Material Test Reports: For each material or product. I. Warranty: Sample of special warranty. 1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Fabricator Qualifications: Shop that employs skilled workers who custom fabricate products similar to those required for this Project and whose products have a record of successful in- service performance. B. Installer Qualifications: An experienced firm or individual who has specialized in installing plastic fabrications similar in material, design and extent to that indicated for this Project, whose work has a record of successful in-service performance. 1. Refer also to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements,” 1.3.H and I. C. Source Limitations for plastic fabrications: Obtain plastic fabrications from single source. 1. Obtain each color, grade, finish, type, and variety of plastic fabrication from one source with resources to provide materials and products of consistent quality in appearance and physical properties. D. Surface-Burning Characteristics: As determined by testing identical products according to ASTM E 84 by a qualified testing agency. Identify products with appropriate markings of applicable testing agency. PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 06 60 00 - PEDCOR SQUARE Date 12.18.15 PLASTIC FABRICATIONS PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 1. Flame-Spread Index: 25 or less. E. Fire-Resistance Ratings: Where indicated, provide plastic fabrications identical to those of assemblies tested for fire resistance per ASTM E 119 by a qualified testing agency. Identify products with appropriate markings of applicable testing agency. 1. Indicate design designations from UL's "Fire Resistance Directory" or from the listings of another qualified testing agency. 2. Combustion Characteristics: ASTM E 136. F. Pre-Installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site. 1. Review methods and procedures related to installation and coordination with other trades. 1.8 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Deliver individual plastic fabrication pieces and installation materials in original, unopened packages with manufacturer’s labels intact and clearly identifying products. B. Store plastic fabrication pieces and installation materials inside and under cover; keep them dry and protected from the weather, direct sunlight, surface contamination, aging, corrosion, damaging temperatures, construction traffic and other causes. 1.9 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Weather Limitations: Proceed with installation only when existing and forecasted weather conditions permit work to be performed according to manufacturer's written instructions and warranty requirements. B. Field Measurements: Where plastic fabrications are indicated to fit to other construction, verify dimensions of other construction by field measurements before fabrication and indicate measurements on Shop Drawings. Coordinate fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid delaying the Work. 1. Locate concealed framing, blocking, and reinforcements that support plastic fabrications by field measurements before being enclosed and indicate measurements on Shop Drawings. 1.10 WARRANTY A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer's warranty for material defects, material failure, or other material deterioration for a period of not less than twenty-five (25) years from the date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Azek Trim boards; Vycom Corporation. 2.3 MATERIALS A. Material: Free foam cellular PVC material with a small-cell microstructure and density of .55 gms/cm3. B. Performance and physical characteristic requirements: 1. Physical Properties: a. Flexural Strength ASTM D 790: 3,329 psi b. Flexural Modulus ASTM D 790: 144,219 psi c. Tensile Strength ASTM D 638: 2,256 psi d. Tensile Modulus ASTM D 638 144,000 psi e. Coefficient of Linear Expansion: ASTM D 696: 3.2 x 10-5 in. /in. /deg. F 2.4 ACCESSORIES A. Fasteners 1. Use stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners. 2. Plastic fabrication material must be fastened into a flat, solid substrate. B. Adhesives 1. Glue all plastic fabrication to plastic fabrication joints. 2. Surfaces to be glued shall be smooth, clean, and in complete contact with each other. C. Sealants 1. Use urethane, polyurethane or acrylic based sealants without silicone. 2.5 FABRICATION, GENERAL A. Fabricate to dimensions, profiles, and details indicated. B. Complete fabrication, including assembly, finishing, and hardware application, to maximum extent possible before shipment to Project site. Disassemble components only as necessary for shipment and installation. Where necessary for fitting at site, provide ample allowance for scribing, trimming, and fitting. PART 3 - EXECUTION PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 06 60 00 - PEDCOR SQUARE Date 12.18.15 PLASTIC FABRICATIONS PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates areas, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Examine plastic fabrication materials before installation. Reject any materials that do not meet the following requirements: 1. Free foam cellular PVC shall be homogeneous and free of voids, cracks, and foreign inclusions and other defects. Edges must be square and top and bottom surfaces shall be flat with no convex or concave deviation. C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install per manufacturer’s written recommendations. B. All joints and seams between adjacent components to be smooth, hairline seams. C. Reject all components with imperfections, damages or other irregularities. D. Coordinate placement and spacing of plastic fabrications to avoid conflict with other work. . END OF SECTION 06 60 00
