All surfaces to receive waterproofing must be smooth dry and free from dirt, dust, ice and debris. B. Holes, joints and voids in masonry substrates should be pointed flush with the surface. The surface must be free from fins and projections. Any pipe projections must be grouted tightly. C. Release agents and concrete curing compounds must be compatible with the membrane system. A water cure or a liquid curing compound sodium silicate is preferred. Honeycombs, tie wire holes and other voids in the concrete must be cut out and re-pointed with a non-shrinking concrete patching compound. D. Refer to ASTM D 5295 Standard Guide for Preparation of Concrete Surfaces for Bonded Membranes. 3.2 EQUIPMENT A. Torch should be of a type recommended by the membrane manufacture 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Ensure the substrate is clean, dry and ready for the application. B. The entire substrate to receive waterproofing is to be primed with Elastocol 500 at a average rate of 1 to 1.5 gallons per 100 sq. ft. Primer is to be installed to a dark color and is not to be cut or thinned in any manor. 3.4 MEMBRANE APPLICATION PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 07 12 52 - PEDCOR SQUARE Issue Date 12.18.15 SBS MODIFIED BITUMINOUS FOUNDATION WATERPROOFING PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 A. Starter strips or reinforcement strips of Sopralene 180 must be used at all inside and outside corners as well as all 90 angles. B. It is recommended that the membrane is installed in 6 ft. sections. The membrane may be cut in the field or ordered pre cut in 6 ft. sections. C. The Sopralene Flam 180 shall be installed (torch only) to the prepared substrate. Starting at the low point of the wall of footer, fuse the membrane to the primed surface using an approved propane torch. D. The pre cast joints must be covered with two-plys of the waterproofing membrane. Cut the Sopralene flam 180 roll in half. Center the half sheet over the joint in the standing pre-cast and torch to the vertical wall. The normal application of the waterproofing membrane will follow the joint reinforcement E. Ensure that the membrane is totally adhered to the substrate with each sheet set vertically from the first course to the high point. The side laps shall be 75 mm or 3 inches. The top of each course shall be fastened 2.5 inches from the top of the sheet 6 inches o/c. with a Hilti DX Fastener and a Soprema Membrane plate. All fasteners and plates are to be corrosion resistant. F. Each of the following 6 ft. courses shall be shifted or of set from the prior course by 12 inches and shall overlap the proceeding course by 6 inches concealing the fasteners and plates from the prior course. The application shall continue until the entire surface is completed. G. Any holes or punctures in the membrane must be patched with an additional sheet of membrane which extends a minimum of 4 inches or 100 mm from all sides of the hole or puncture. H. The contractor shall inspect the completed work each day. Any wrinkles or voids in the side or head laps must be cut and patched. I. Prior to the application of the drainage or protection layer the contractor should contact a representative of the manufacturer to inspect the membrane and note any defects which will require attention. 3.5 DRAINAGE AND PROTECTION LAYER A. Install Sopradrain 300 over the completed waterproofing using spot application of Sopracolle 300 adhesive. Install the drainage composit in vertical rows ensuring that the filter fabric overlaps the fabric from each adjacent panel. The backfill must follow as soon as possible to permanently secure the drainage composite. 3.6 BACKFILLING A. Backfilling will be a continuous process from the footer and up as each course of waterproofing is installed. Soil or a specified backfill should be placed directly adjacent to the drainage layer and compacted using a vibratory compactor. The waterproofing contractor should inspect the backfill operation on a regular basis to insure that no damage is imposed by the backfill process.
