Reinforcement strips of Sopralene 180 must be used at all inside and outside corners as well as all 90o angles and drains. B. It is recommended that the membrane is installed in full rolls as much as possible. C. The Sopralene Flam Stick shall be installed (self-adhered only) to the prepared substrate. Starting at the low point of the deck at the drains, press the membrane to the primed surface. D. Ensure that the membrane is totally adhered to the substrate with each sheet set vertically from the first course to the high point of the deck. The side laps shall be 75 mm or 3 inches. E. Any holes or punctures in the membrane must be patched with an additional sheet of membrane which extends a minimum of 4 inches or 100 mm from all sides of the hole or puncture. F. The Subcontractor shall inspect the completed work each day. Any wrinkles or voids in the side or head laps must be cut and patched. G. Application of the cap sheet, SOPRALENE FLAM 180, shall follow the base ply as soon as possible. The cap sheet shall be shifted 12 inches to ensure that the seams in the base ply do not line up with the cap ply. H. The cap ply shall be unrolled on the deck for alignment. The sheet shall be unrolled from the low point of the deck and shall be re-rolled from both ends prior to torching. I. The cap ply shall be torched over the base ply. Side laps of the cap ply shall be 3 inches or 75 mm with end laps of 6 inches or 150 mm. All end laps must be staggered to avoid alignment with the base ply. J. Prior to the application of the drainage or protection layer, the Subcontractor should contact a representative of the manufacturer to inspect the membrane and note any defects which will require attention. 3.6 MEMBRANE FLASHING A. The base ply, SOPRALENE FLAM 180, shall be used as the flashing reinforcement or backer sheet. The backer sheet shall be applied to a primed surface and shall extend 6 inches out onto the base ply. Note: the flashing backer sheet must be applied prior to the cap ply. B. Following the installation of the cap ply, use a chalk line to mark the cap sheet 6 inches or 150 mm out from the projection. Using a torch and a round-nosed roofing trowel, embed the surface granules into the heated asphalt of the cap sheet. The 180 cap ply should then be cut for the size of the projection ensuring a 6-inch or 150 mm lap out onto the cap ply. PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 07 13 52 - PEDCOR SQUARE Issue Date 12.18.15 SBS MODIFIED BITUMINOUS SHEET PLAZA WATERPROOFING PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 C. All flashing must be terminated 1/2-inch below the finished surface of the plaza overburden, or above the overburden and into an approved receiver, metal counter-flashing, coping, etc. 3.7 LIQUID FLASHING APPLICATION A. Surface Preparation: Surfaces to receive Alsan Flashing must be structurally sound, dry and clean. Surfaces must be free from moisture, dirt, grease, oil, paint or any other loose or existing waterproof coatings. 3.8 PRIMING A. Priming is not normally required on clean dry plywood, concrete, masonry and metal surfaces. B. Any older surface with a prior flashing or coating will require a primer. C. If the Alsan Base coat is exposed for more than twelve hours prior to the next application of Alsan Flashing it must be primed at a rate of 200-250 sq. ft. per gal. D. Primers should be allowed to dry for a total of 8 hours prior to the Alsan Flashing Application. Primed substrates may only be exposed for a period of 24 hours prior to the application of Alsan Flashing or they must be re primed. 3.9 ALSAN FLASHING APPLICATION A. Base Coat: 1. Onto the vertical and horizontal surfaces apply Alsan Flashing at a rate of 20 wet mils. This will require about 1.25 gal. Per 100 sq. ft. 2. Extend the coverage of Alsan Flashing one inch above the past the location of the Flash Fleece reinforcement. 3. Apply Alsan Flashing out onto the surface of the field cap membrane a minimum of 4 inches to 6 inches depending on the type of detail or penetration. (Refer to Soprema Alsan Flashing Details for 10 year application) 4. Center and position the Flash Fleece up the vertical and out onto the horizontal surface without wrinkles or folds and embed into the wet base coat. Overlap reinforcement a minimum of 2 inches. 5. Apply the flash fleece into the base coat while wet. Do not allow a skim to form over the base coat 6. Over the entire base coat application and the Flash Fleece immediately apply a coat of Alsan Flashing at a rate of 20 wet mils or 125 sq. ft. per gal. Be sure that the Flash Fleece is completely embedded. 3.10 ALSAN FLASHING MID COAT (SECOND COAT) A. Allow the base coat to dry for a minimum of two hours to a maximum of 12 hours before applying the mid coat. Extended cure time may be required in cool weather conditions or in areas where the humidity is high. PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 07 13 52 - PEDCOR SQUARE Issue Date 12.18.15 SBS MODIFIED BITUMINOUS SHEET PLAZA WATERPROOFING PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 B. If the base coat has been exposed more than 12 hours, the base coat will require priming prior to application of the mid coat. C. Apply the mid coat of Alsan Flashing over the entire base coat at a rate of 25 wet mils or 1.56 gal. Per 100 sq. ft. D. Do not apply when base coat surface temperature exceeds 187°F or below 40°F. 3.11 ALSAN FLASHING FINISH COAT (THIRD COAT) A. Allow the mid coat to dry for a minimum of two hours to a maximum of twelve hours before applying the finish coat. Extended cure time will be required in cool weather conditions or in areas where the humidity may be high. B. Do not apply Alsan Flashing when the substrate is over 187 degrees F or below 40 degrees F. Do not install in wet weather conditions. C. Apply the Alsan Flashing finish coat over the complete surface of the mid coat at a rate of 25 wet mils or 1.56 gal per 100 sq. ft. D. The finish coat may be exposed or may be treated with colored ceramic granules pressing them into the finish coat. Allow 45 minutes for the finish coat to set up before pressing in the ceramic granules. 3.12 CLEAN UP A. Remove all wrappers, dirt, dust and debris from project site. B. Clean all markings from walls or other finished surfaces. END OF SECTION 07 13 52
