Size: 9 s.f. 3. Final approval by Architect of water-repellent application will be from test applications. D. Pre-installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site to comply with requirements in Division 01 Section "Project Management and Coordination." 1.6 TEST PANELS A. Before full-scale application apply water repellent to test areas of substrate materials to be used where designated to determine coverage rates, compatibility, effectiveness, and aesthetics. B. Apply water repellents to test areas in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions. Allow 24 hours or until test areas are thoroughly cured before evaluating final appearance and results. Do not begin full-scale application until test areas are inspected and approved by Architect. C. Allow 7 days of cure time prior to testing using RILEM or MAT methods. 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Delivery: Deliver materials to the job site in original, tightly sealed, unopened containers, with labels clearly identifying product name and manufacturer. Verify that the product matches that of the original sample applied to the test area. B. Storage and Handling: Store containers upright in a cool, dry place. Keep away from sparks and open flame. Store and handle materials in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions. PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 07 19 00 - PEDCOR SQUARE Issue Date 12.18.15 WATER REPELLENTS PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Limitations: Proceed with application only when the following existing and forecasted weather and substrate conditions permit water repellents to be applied according to manufacturers' written instructions and warranty requirements: 1. Ambient temperature is between 40 deg. F and 95 deg. F. 2. Concrete surfaces and mortar have cured for more than 28 days. 3. Rain or snow is not predicted within 12 hours. 4. Application proceeds more than 48-72 hours after surfaces have been wet. 5. Substrate contains no frozen moisture, or surface temperature is above 40 deg F. 6. Windy conditions do not exist that may cause water repellent to be blown onto vegetation or surfaces not intended to be treated. 1.9 WARRANTY A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agree(s) to replace materials that fail to maintain water repellency specified in Part 1 "Performance Requirements" Article within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Period: Five years – horizontal surfaces, and ten years- vertical surfaces from date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide one of the products listed in other Part 2 articles. 2.2 PENETRATING WATER REPELLENTS A. Silicone-Sealer, Penetrating Water Repellent: Clear, polymerized, silicone-rubber water repellent for dense substrates; with a solvent- or water-based solution containing not less than 3 and up to 5 percent solids by weight. Must be VOC compliant. 1. Products: a. Professional Products of Kansas; Water Sealant Regular Strength and Extra Strength. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 PREPARATION A. Clean substrate of substances that might interfere with penetration or performance of water repellents. Test for moisture content, according to water-repellent manufacturer's written instructions, to ensure that surface is dry enough. 1. Cast-in-Place Concrete: Use only an approved moisture-curing or wet-curing method described in Section 03 30 00. PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 07 19 00 - PEDCOR SQUARE Issue Date 12.18.15 WATER REPELLENTS PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 2. Cast-in-Place Concrete: Remove oil, curing compounds, laitance, and other substances that could prevent adhesion or penetration of water repellents. B. Surface should be neutralized after cleaning. C. Protect adjoining work, including sealant bond surfaces, from spillage or blow-over of water repellent. Cover adjoining and nearby surfaces of aluminum and glass if there is the possibility of water repellent being deposited on surfaces. Cover live plants and grass. D. Coordination with Sealants: Do not apply water repellent until sealants for joints adjacent to surfaces receiving water-repellent treatment have been installed and cured. E. Verify that concrete has cured using an approved moisture-curing method only, for a minimum of 28 days. F. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 APPLICATION A. Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to inspect the substrate before application of water repellent and to instruct Applicator on the product and application method to be used. B. Apply a heavy-saturation spray coating of water repellent on surfaces indicated for treatment using low-pressure spray equipment. Comply with manufacturer's written instructions for using airless spraying procedure, unless otherwise indicated. C. Horizontal Applications: If surface pooling or puddling appears, back-roll, brush, wipe up, or broom away excess material. Complete penetration must occur. Avoid excessive overlapping. Material curing on surface may cause whiting or slickness. D. Painting: Apply Concrete Zone Marking Paint after application of water repellent. Follow water repellent manufacturer’s written recommendations regarding surface preparation for paint application. 1. Refer to Specification Section 09 91 00 for paint selection and application recommendations. 3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Inspection: Inspect the water repellent work with the Contractor, Architect, applicator, and manufacturer representative, and compare with test area results approved by the Architect. Determine if the substrates are suitably protected by the water repellents. B. Manufacturer’s Field Services: Provide the services of a manufacturer’s authorized field representative to verify specified products are used; protection, surface preparation, and application of water repellents are in accordance with e manufacturer’s written instructions; and the test area is approved by the Architect. PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 07 19 00 - PEDCOR SQUARE Issue Date 12.18.15 WATER REPELLENTS PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 3.4 CLEANING A. Immediately clean water repellent from adjoining surfaces and surfaces soiled or damaged by water-repellent application as work progresses. Repair damage caused by water-repellent application. Comply with manufacturer's written cleaning instructions. END OF SECTION 07 19 00
