Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: 1. Section includes aluminum-clad out-swinging patio doors. 1.3 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS A. Pre-installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site. 1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product. 1. Include details of construction and glazing. 2. Include factory-finishing specifications. B. Shop Drawings: For stile and rail wood doors. Indicate location, size, and hand of each door; elevation of each kind of door; construction details not covered in Product Data, including those for stiles, rails, panels, and moldings (sticking); and other pertinent data, including the following: 1. Dimensions of doors for factory fitting. 2. Locations and dimensions of mortises and holes for hardware. 3. Undercuts. 4. Requirements for veneer matching. 5. Doors to be factory finished and finish requirements. C. Samples: For each exposed product and for each color specified, 2 by 4 inches in size. D. Samples for Initial Selection: For units with factory-applied color finishes. 1. Include similar samples of hardware and accessories involving color selection. E. Samples for Verification: Corner sections of doors, approximately 8 by 10 inches, with door faces and edgings representing typical range of color and grain for each species of veneer required. 1.5 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS A. Product Certificates: For each type of door, from manufacturer. C. Sample Warranty: For special warranty. D. Quality Standard Compliance Certificates: AWI Quality Certification Program certificates. E. Field quality-control reports. 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer Qualifications: A manufacturer capable of fabricating wood windows that meet or exceed performance requirements indicated and of documenting this performance by test reports, and calculations. 1. Refer also to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” B. Installer Qualifications: An installer acceptable to wood window manufacturer for installation of units required for this Project. C. Mockups: Build mockups, if requested in writing by Architect, to verify selections made under Sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects and set quality standards for materials and execution. 1. Build mockup of typical wall area as shown on Drawings. 2. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the Contract Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically approves such deviations in writing. 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Comply with requirements of referenced standard and manufacturer's written instructions. B. Package doors individually in opaque plastic bags or cardboard cartons. C. Mark each door on bottom rail with opening number used on Shop Drawings. 1.8 FIELD CONDITIONS A. Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install doors until spaces are enclosed and weather tight, wet work in spaces is complete and dry, and HVAC system is operating and maintaining ambient temperature and humidity conditions at occupancy levels during remainder of construction period. 1.9 WARRANTY A. Manufacturer's Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace wood doors that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following: a. Failure to meet performance requirements. b. Structural failures including excessive deflection, water leakage, and air infiltration. Deterioration of materials and finishes beyond normal weathering. e. Failure of insulating glass. 2. Warranty Period: a. Door: 20 years from date of Substantial Completion. b. Glazing Units: Twenty years from date of Substantial Completion. c. Aluminum-Cladding Finish: 20 years from date of Substantial Completion PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, use the following product as the basis of design for the product required: 1. Aluminum-clad out-swing patio doors: a. JELD-WEN, Inc.; “Clad Epic.” B. Source Limitations: Obtain aluminum-clad wood out-swing patio doors from single source from single manufacturer. 2.2 DOOR PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Product Standard: Comply with AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 for definitions and minimum standards of performance, materials, components, accessories, and fabrication unless more stringent requirements are indicated. 1. Window Certification: WDMA certified with label attached to each window. B. Performance Class and Grade: AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 as follows: 1. Minimum Performance Class: CW. 2. Minimum Performance Grade: 30. C. Thermal Transmittance: NFRC 100 maximum whole-window U-factor of 0.30 Btu/sq. ft. x h x deg F. D. Solar Heat-Gain Coefficient (SHGC): NFRC 200 maximum whole-DOOR SHGC of 0.40. E. Sound Transmission Class (STC): Rated for not less than 26 STC when tested for laboratory sound transmission loss according to ASTM E 90 and determined by ASTM E 413. F. Outside-Inside Transmission Class (OITC): Rated for not less than 22 OITC when tested for laboratory sound transmission loss according to ASTM E 90 and determined by ASTM E 1332. G. Windborne-Debris Resistance: Capable of resisting impact from windborne debris based on testing glazed DOORS identical to those specified, according to ASTM E 1886 and testing information in ASTM E 1996 and requirements of authorities having jurisdiction. PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 08 14 34 - NEW SECTION PEDCOR SQUARE Issue Date XX.XX.16 STILE AND RAIL WOOD PATIO DOORS PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 2.3 WOOD DOORS A. Frames and Sashes: Fine-grained wood lumber complying with AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440; kiln dried to a moisture content of not more than 12 percent at time of fabrication; free of visible finger joints, blue stain, knots, pitch pockets, and surface checks larger than 1/32 inch deep by 2 inches wide; water-repellent preservative treated. 1. Exterior Finish: Aluminum-clad wood. a. Aluminum Finish: Manufacturer's standard Fluoro-polymer two-coat system with Fluoro-polymer color topcoat containing not less than 70 percent polyvinylidene fluoride resin by weight and complying with AAMA 2605. b. Exposed Unfinished Wood Surfaces: Manufacturer's standard paint-grade species. c. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. 2. Interior Finish: Manufacturer's standard color-coated finish. a. Exposed Unfinished Wood Surfaces: Manufacturer's standard species. b. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. B. Insulating-Glass Units: ASTM E 2190. 1. Glass: ASTM C 1036, Type 1, Class 1, q3. a. Tint: Clear. b. Kind: Fully tempered where indicated on Drawings. 2. Lites: Two. 3. Filling: Fill space between glass lites with air. 4. Low-E Coating: Pyrolytic on second surface. C. Glazing System: Manufacturer's standard factory-glazing system that produces weather tight seal. D. Hardware, General: Provide manufacturer's standard hardware fabricated from aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel complying with AAMA 907, or other corrosion-resistant material compatible with adjacent materials; designed to smoothly operate, tightly close, and securely lock windows, and sized to accommodate sash weight and dimensions. 1. Exposed Hardware Color and Finish: As indicated by manufacturer's designations. E. Door Hardware: 1. Refer to Specification 08 71 10 Door Hardware Schedule – Addendum. F. Weather Stripping: Provide full-perimeter weather stripping for each operable sash unless otherwise indicated. G. Fasteners: Noncorrosive and compatible with door members, trim, hardware, anchors, and other components. 1. Exposed Fasteners: Do not use exposed fasteners to the greatest extent possible. For application of hardware, use fasteners that match finish hardware being fastened. H. Installation Accessories: 1. Flashing: Refer to Specification Section 07 62 00 “Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim.” 2. Sealants: Refer to Specification Section 07 92 00 “Joint Sealants.” PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 08 14 34 - NEW SECTION PEDCOR SQUARE Issue Date XX.XX.16 STILE AND RAIL WOOD PATIO DOORS PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 2.4 STILE AND RAIL WOOD DOOR FABRICATION A. Fabricate stile and rail wood doors in sizes indicated for field fitting. B. Factory fit doors to suit frame-opening sizes indicated, with the following uniform clearances and bevels unless otherwise indicated: 1. Clearances: Provide 1/8 inch at heads, jambs, and between pairs of doors. Provide 1/2 inch from bottom of door to top of decorative floor finish or covering. Where threshold is shown or scheduled, provide not more than 3/8 inch from bottom of door to top of threshold. a. Comply with NFPA 80 for fire-rated doors. 2. Bevel non-fire-rated doors 1/8 inch in 2 inches at lock and hinge edges. C. Factory machine doors for hardware that is not surface applied. Locate hardware to comply with DHI-WDHS-3. Comply with final hardware schedules, door frame Shop Drawings, BHMA- 156.115-W, and hardware templates. 1. Coordinate measurements of hardware mortises in metal frames to verify dimensions and alignment before factory machining. D. Glazed Openings: Trim openings indicated for glazing with solid wood moldings, with one side removable. Miter wood moldings at corner joints. E. Glazed Openings: Factory install glazing in doors, complying with Section 08 80 00 "Glazing." Install glass using manufacturer's standard elastomeric glazing sealant complying with ASTM C 920. Secure glass in place with removable wood moldings. Miter wood moldings at corner joints. F. Transom and Side Panels: Fabricate panels to match adjoining doors in materials, finish, and quality of construction. G. Exterior Doors: Factory treat exterior doors after fabrication with water-repellent preservative to comply with WDMA I.S.4. Flash top of outswinging doors with manufacturer's standard metal flashing. H. Pre-hung Doors: Provide stile and rail doors complete with frames, weather stripping. 1. Provide wood door frames that comply with Section 06 20 23 "Interior Finish Carpentry." 2. Hardware to be field installed. Refer to Specification Section 08 71 00 "Door Hardware." 2.5 SHOP PRIMING A. Shop prime interior faces, all four edges, edges of cutouts, and mortises with one coat of wood primer specified in Section 09 91 00 "Painting." 2.6 FINISHING A. Finish interior of wood doors in field. PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 08 14 34 - NEW SECTION PEDCOR SQUARE Issue Date XX.XX.16 STILE AND RAIL WOOD PATIO DOORS PEDCOR SQUARE; BUILDING 5 PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine openings, substrates, structural support, anchorage, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Verify rough opening dimensions, levelness of sill plate, and operational clearances. C. Examine wall flashings, vapor retarders, water and weather barriers, and other built-in components to ensure weather tight door installation. D. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Hardware: For installation, see Specification Section 08 71 00 "Door Hardware" and 08 71 10 “Door Hardware Schedule.” B. Installation Instructions: Install doors to comply with manufacturer's written instructions and referenced quality standard, and as indicated. 1. Install fire-rated doors according to NFPA 80. 2. Install smoke- and draft-control doors according to NFPA 105. C. Factory-Fitted Doors: Align in frames for uniform clearance at each edge. 3.3 ADJUSTING, CLEANING AND PROTECTION A. Operation: Rehang or replace doors that do not swing or operate freely. B. Adjust operating hardware for a tight fit at contact points and weather stripping for smooth operation and weather tight closure. C. Clean exposed surfaces immediately after installing doors. Remove excess sealants, glazing materials, dirt, and other substances. 1. Keep protective films and coverings in place until final cleaning. D. Remove and replace sashes if glass has been broken, chipped, cracked, abraded, or damaged during construction period. E. Protect window surfaces from contact with contaminating substances resulting from construction operations. If contaminating substances do contact window surfaces, remove contaminants immediately according to manufacturer's written instructions. F. Finished Doors: Replace doors that are damaged or do not comply with requirements. Doors may be repaired or refinished if Work complies with requirements and shows no evidence of repair or refinishing.
