The Carmel Historic Preservation Commission was established in 2011 to implement a comprehensive
program of historic preservation in the City of Carmel.The Commission is a seven member body appointed
by Mayor Brainard.As part of its duties,the Commission was charged with completing a survey of historic
resources within the community. Your property at 18 Thornhurst Dr was identified as a potential historic
property in the 2014 City of Carmel/Clay Township Historic Architecture Survey which can be found at
https://www.ruskina.rc.com/city-of-carmel/carmel.
Your property being identified in the survey does not place any type of new regulation on your
property. Properties identified in the survey, including your property,are eligible for the Historic
Preservation Commission's pilot fagade grant program.Applicants are eligible to apply for matching grants to
complete projects that will improve and restore the historic character of their property as seen from the street.
In the program's initial year,the Carmel Historic Preservation Commission has allocated a total of$5,000 for
one or more projects.Visit the Commissions' webpage on the City.of Carmel website to learn more and
download the application:http://www.carmel.in.gov/index.aspx?page=629.Applications are due by June 30°i.
The Commission utilizes the survey data as a guiding document in understanding what properties are historic
within the community.Your property and/or neighborhood may be eligible for designation as a local historic
site or district. If you are interested in understanding the process of designating your property as a local
historic site,please contact the staff of the preservation commission,Mark Dollase or Raina Regan at 317-
639-4534.Those properties locally designated are eligible for additional fagade grant funds.
The Historic Preservation Commission is a resource for the City of Carmel to protect and preserve its historic
