2.3 APPLYING AND FINISHING GYPSUM BOARD
A. Install and finish gypsum panels to comply with ASTM C 840 and GA -216.
B. Install panels to minimize the number of abutting end joints.
C. Install edge trim where edge of gypsum panels would otherwise be exposed or semi -exposed.
Provide type of flange formed to receive joint compound.
D. Apply joint treatment at gypsum board joints (both directions): flanges of corner bead, edge
trim, and control joints; fastener heads, surface defects, and elsewhere as required to prepare
gypsum board surfaces for finish.
1. Skim coat surface as required at curving partitions.
E. Texture Finish: Apply at gypsum board partitions in Sales Area which are to receive black paint
finish. Prepare and apply primer to gypsum panels according to manufacturer's instructions.
Mix and apply finish using powered spray equipment to produce a uniform non -directional
texture matching approved samples, free of starved sports or other evidence of thin
application or of application patterns.
SECTION 09650 - RESILIENT FLOORING
1.1 QUALITY ASSURANCE, DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Engage an experienced installer who has specialized in installing types of flooring similar to
those required for this Project.
B. Store, protect, handle, install and maintain the flooring as per all manufacturer's specifications
and recommendations.
1.2 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Floors shall be smooth, flat, level, permanently dry, clean and free of all foreign material such as
dust, paint, grease, oils, old adhesive residue, etc.
B. Patch and repair minor cracks and other imperfections with manufacturer approved portland-
base patching compounds. Do not install over Gypsum -based leveling or patching
compounds.
C. It is essential that calcium chloride moisture tests and bond tests be taken on all concrete floors
regardless of the age or grade level, per manufacturer's specifications.
D. Prepare subfloor per manufacturer's instructions.
1.3 INSTALLATION/ CLEANING/ PROTECTION
A. Strictly follow all manufacturer's specifications and instructions for installation and
maintenance, including the use of only manufacturer's recommended adhesives and flooring
finishes.
B. Strictly follow manufacturer's specifications and instructions for initial cleanup and
maintenance, including cleaning and applying floor finish.
1. Immediately remove all adhesive residue from the surface of the flooring.
2. Immediately after installation is completed, initial maintenance procedures must be
implemented per manufacturer's complete maintenance instructions.
C. Protect installed flooring during remainder of construction period against damage per these
Specifications, Section 01040 -Project Coordination, Item 1.5 -Cleaning & Protection.
D. At Project Closeout, provide Owner with Daily/Regular and long term maintenance instructions
for the care of the flooring.
SECTION 09678 - RESILIENT WALL BASE AND ACCESSORIES
General Contractor shall provide and install all wall base, transition strips and miscellaneous accessories
as indicated or required per manufacturer's specifications and instructions.
SECTION 09900 - PAINTING
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Paint exposed surfaces whether or not colors are designated in schedules, except where a
surface or material is specifically indicated not to be painted or is to remain natural. Where an
item or surface is not specifically mentioned, paint the same as similar adjacent materials or
surfaces. If color or finish is not designated, the Owner will select from standard colors or
finishes available.
1. Painting includes field -painting gypsum board assemblies, door frames, exposed bare
and covered pipes and ducts, hangers, conduits, exposed steel work, exposed
fireproofing, and metal surfaces of mechanical and electrical equipment, including
speakers and diffusers located in gypsum board assemblies.
2. Labels: Do not paint over Underwriters Laboratories, or other code -required labels or
equipment name, identification, or nomenclature plates.
3. The store name and space designation number shall be clearly painted in black letters on
the service door for identification.
1.2 PAINT MATERIALS, GENERAL
A. Provide primers, finish coat materials, and related materials that are compatible with one
another and the substrates indicated as demonstrated by the manufacturer.
B. Provide the manufacturer's best -quality trade sale paint material of the various coating types
specified, that are compatible with the substrate and finish coats indicated.
C. Provide colors as indicated on the Finish Schedule.
D. Provide clear concrete sealer for application indicated. Prepare, install, and protect as per
manufacturer's specifications.
1.3 PRIMERS
A. Subject to compliance with requirements, provide:
1. Gypsum Drywall Primer: Latex -based primer.
a. Benjamin Moore: Latex Quick -Dry Prime Seal #201.
2. Ferrous Metal Primers: Synthetic, quick -drying.
1.4 PREPARATION
A. Remove items already installed that are not to be painted, or provide surface -applied
protection prior to painting. Following completion of painting operations, have items reinstalled
by workers skilled in the trades involved.
B. Before applying paint, clean the substrates. Schedule cleaning and painting so dust and other
contaminants from the cleaning process will not fall on newly painted surfaces.
1.5 APPLICATION
A. Apply paint according to manufacturer's directions. Use applicators and techniques best
suited for substrate and type of material being applied.
B. Do not paint over conditions detrimental to formation of a durable paint film.
1. The term exposed surfaces includes areas visible when permanent or built-in fixtures,
grilles, and similar components are in place.
2. Paint surfaces behind movable equipment the same as similar exposed surfaces. Before
the final installation of equipment, paint surfaces behind permanently fixed equipment
with prime coat only.
3. Paint interior surfaces of ducts, where visible through registers or grilles, with a flat black
paint.
4. Paint back sides of access panels and removable or hinged covers to match exposed
surfaces.
5. Finish doors on tops, bottoms, and side edges same as faces.
C. Apply materials no thinner than the manufacturer's recommended spreading rate. Provide the
total dry film thickness of the entire system as recommended by the manufacturer.
D. Completely cover to provide a smooth, opaque surface of uniform finish, color, appearance,
and coverage. Cloudiness, spotting, laps, brush marks, runs, sags, or other surface
imperfections will not be acceptable.
1.6 PROTECTION
A. Protect work of other trades. Correct damage by cleaning, repairing or replacing, and
repainting, as acceptable to Owner.
B. At completion of construction activities of other trades, touch up and restore damaged or
defaced painted surfaces.
DIVISION 10 - SPECIALTIES
SECTION 10425 - SIGNS
PART 1 - EXECUTION
1.1 INSTALLATION, CLEANING AND PROTECTION
A. Locate sign units and accessories where indicated, using mounting methods of the type
described and in compliance with the manufacturer's instructions.
1. Install signs level, plumb, and at the height indicated, with sign surfaces free from
distortion or other defects in appearance.
B. General Contractor shall provide and install all wood and/or steel anchorage required to
support all signage. Coordinate requirements with sign contractor.
C. Provide and install signage at Exit and at all other areas as required by the ADA and all local
codes.
D. After installation, clean soiled sign surfaces according to the manufacturer's instructions or to
like -new condition. Protect units from damage until acceptance by the Owner.
SECTION 10522 - FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
Provide and install all fire extinguishers as required.
SECTION 10800 - TOILET ACCESSORIES - EXISTING TOILET ROOM TO REMAIN.
PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING IF NOT EXISTING.
1.1 PROJECT CONDITIONS AND MATERIALS
A. General Contractor shall provide and install all toilet accessories as listed below.
1. General Contractor shall be responsible for verifying compliance with all state and local
codes, and proper working condition of all items.
B. (1) Surface -mounted paper towel dispenser (for rolled paper towels). Mount bottom of unit at
38" above finished floor, adjacent to lavatory.
C (1) Surface -mounted toilet paper holder. Mount unit on the side wall 18" above finished floor
and 36" from the rear wall.
D (1) Surface -mounted mirror 16" wide by 36" high by Bobrick, or equal. Mount bottom of unit at
38" above finished floor centered directly above wall mounted lavatory. Mirror shall be 36" high,
therefore top of mirror shall be 74" above finished floor.
E (1) 1-1/2" diameter, surface -mounted grab bar with concealed mounting #66206.99 x 42" by
Bobrick, or equal. Mount on side wall (adjacent to handicap accessible toilet) 33" above
finished floor, 12" from back wall.
F (1) 1-1/2" diameter, surface -mounted grab bar with concealed mounting #B6206.99 x 36" by
Bobrick, or equal. Mount on back wall, 33" above finished floor, 12" minimum each side of
handicap accessible toilet centerline.
1.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install toilet accessory units according to manufacturers' instructions, using fasteners
appropriate to substrate as recommended by manufacturer. Install units plumb and level, firmly
anchored in locations and at heights indicated.
B. Install grab bars to withstand a downward load of at least 250 Ibf, complying with ASTM F 446.
C. General Contractor is responsible for providing and installing all blocking required for a
complete and sound installation.
D. Adjust toilet accessories for proper operation and verify that mechanisms function smoothly.
Replace damaged or defective items.
E. Clean and polish all exposed surfaces strictly according to manufacturer's recommendations
after removing temporary labels and protective coatings.

GENERALNOTES
ENTRANCES & EXITS
• Latching and locking doors that are hand activated and which are in a path of travel shall be
operable with a single effort by lever type hardware, panic bars, push-pull activating bars, or other
hardware designed to provide passage without requiring the ability to grasp the opening
hardware. Locked exit doors shall operate as above in egress direction.
• Hand -activated door opening hardware shall be centered between 30" and 44" above the floor.
• Every doorway which is located within an accessible path of travel shall be of a size as to permit the
installation of a door not less than 3' in width and not less than 6'-8" in height. When installed, exit
doors shall be capable of opening so that the clear width of the exit is not less than 32", measured
between the face of the door and the opposite stop.
• The bottom 10" of all doors except automatic and sliding shall have a smooth, uninterrupted
surface to allow the door to be opened by a wheelchair footrest without creating a trap or
hazardous condition. Where narrow frame doors are used, a 10" high smooth panel shall be
installed on the push side of the door, which will allow the door to be opened by a wheelchair
footrest without creating a trap or hazardous condition.
• Maximum effort to operate doors shall not exceed 8-1/2 pounds for exterior doors and 5 pounds
for interior doors, such pull or push effort being applied at right angles to hinged doors and at the
center plane of sliding or folding doors. Compensating devices or automatic door operators may
be utilized to meet the above standards. When fire doors are required, the maximum effort to
operate the door may be increased to the maximum allowable by the appropriate administrative
authority, not to exceed 15 pounds,
ELECTRICAL
• The center of electrical and communication system receptacle outlets shall be installed not less
than 15" above the floor or working platform.
• The center of the grip of the operating handle of controls or switches intended to be used by the
occupant of the room or area to control lighting and receptacle outlets, appliances, or cooling,
heating, and ventilating equipment shall not be more than 48" above the floor or working platform.
• The center of fire alarm initiating devices (boxes) shall be located 48" above the level of the floor,
working platform, ground surface, or sidewalk.
FIRE PREVENTION
• Doors opening into one-hour fire -resistive corridor shall be protected with a smoke or draft -stop
fire assembly having a minimum 20 -minute rating.
• Provide exit signs and directional exit signs with minimum 6" high by 3/4" stroke block letters on a
contrasting background.
• Provide a portable fire extinguisher with a rating of not less than 2-A or 2-A10BC within 75 feet
travel distance to all portions of the building on each floor; also during construction.
• Provide fire extinguisher as required by Fire Department field inspector.
• Exit doors shall swing in the direction of exit travel when serving 50 or more persons.
• Aisles leading to required corridors and exits shall have a minimum width of 44".
• Stockroom shelving shall not be within 18" of the sprinkler heads.
