Modification of the existing fire protection system. B. All cutting, patching, excavation and backfill required to install the work. 1.2 DESCRIPTION A. This contractor shall prepare all calculations based on NFPA-13, piping layouts, and details and obtain approval from the Indiana Insurance Services Offices, the State Fire Marshal, and the owner's insurance company. B. This contractor shall coordinate the location of piping and sprinkler heads with other work to prevent interferences with lights, ducts, piping, equipment, etc. PART 2 -PRODUCTS 2.1 PIPING A. All interior piping shall be ductile iron with mechanical or threaded joints and cast iron fittings. 2.2 VALVES A. Valves shall be UL listed for the intended use. Provide limit switch to supervise full open position. 2.3 HANGERS AND SUPPORTS A. Furnish and install all necessary hangers of approved type and size to properly support overhead sprinkler piping. Fire lines shall not be insulated, and hangers shall be sized accordingly. All hangers shall be carbon steel construction or copper plated for copper pipe. 2.4 SPRINKLERS A. Sprinklers located in a finished ceiling to be a recessed type with polished chrome plated head and matte white recessed housing. B. Sprinklers located in exposed structure ceilings to be an upright type with a polished chrome finish. C. Sprinklers located in blind or furred spaces to be an upright type with a natural brass finish. D. Sprinklers located in clearstory or vestibule areas to be horizontal sidewall sprinkler with a polished chrome finish. Escutcheon to be flat with polished chrome finish. 2.5 FLOW SWITCHES A. Flow switches shall be UL listed vane or paddle type. Switches shall have a sensitivity adjustment to prevent false alarms due to pressure surges. A. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 SPRINKLERS A. Sprinkler heads in ceiling tile shall be installed in the center of the tile. B. All sprinkler head locations shall be coordinated with the mechanical design plan and the architectural reflected ceiling plan. C. Verify ceiling in the mechanical rooms shall be installed at least 8 feet above the floor below. 3.2 FLOW SWITCHES A. Install flow switches in the branches to each zone to indicate the location of sprinkler operation. 3.3 TEST OF SYSTEM A. All piping in this system shall be flushed and hydraulically tested per NFPA standards. B. All tests shall be conducted in the presence of the owner or owner's representative and local fire official. Provide seven days notice to the owner prior to testing. C. Any repairs shall be made immediately and the tests rerun to provide final security. END OF SECTION PLAN NOTES: OMODIFY EXISTING SPRINKLER SYSTEM IN THIS AREA AS REQUIRED FOR NEW ROOMS, PLENUMS AND CEILING WORK AND AS NECESSARY TO ACCOMMODATE NEW CONSTRUCTION. REFER TO GENERAL NOTES FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. GENERAL NOTES: 1. FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL FIELD VERIFY EXISTING SPRINKLER SYSTEM LAYOUT AND BUILDING CONDITIONS PRIOR TO BIDDING. 2. SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING A COMPLETE CODE COMPLIANT SPRINKLER MAIN AND DISTRIBUTION GRID TO ACCOMODATE THE PROPOSED TENANT LAYOUT INDICATED. 3. MODIFY EXISTING FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM TO MEET NEW TENANT NEEDS AND LOCAL AND STATE FIRE CODES. 4. PERFORM HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS TO VERIFY CODE COMPLIANCE AND PROPER OPERATION OF THE MODIFIED SYSTEM. 5. SEAL ALL SPRINKLER PIPING PENETRATIONS THROUGH FIRE RATED DEMISING WALLS/FLOORS WITH FIRE RATED SEALANT/FIRE STOP. 6. COORDINATE SPRINKLER SYSTEM MODIFICATIONS WITH EXISTING FIRE ALARM SYSTEM AS NECESSARY.
