(t'utitiOnor or his representative to sign) L Us& ^ S1AT pte",7 or 144,eiA.✓tG Sn c,t.., , i3% C N I am requesting a special use permit from the City of Carmel , so that I might continue to care for very young infants in my home. Most working mothers would prefer that their infants be cared for in a home-like atmosphere, rather than institutional-like daycare. I have provided that care for many infants in Carmel for five years. Recently, State Farm Insurance Company, who handles our home owners policy, decided to no longer cover any home day care. So we have had to search for an insurance company to cover this care. We have found one company who will write a commercial policy, but only if I am licensed by the State of Indiana. I have checked into licensing before this and the law requires you be licensed if you care for six or more children on a full time basis. As I have not cared for more than the law states, I had not pursued this. But due to the insurance company ' s requirements, I have contacted the Hamilton County Welfare Department to start pro- ceedings for licensing. They informed me that I would need a special use permit from the City of Carmel . None of the children in my care arrive at the same time; the earliest arriving at 7: 30 and the latest between 10: 30 and 11 : 00 a. m. They start leaving at 4: 15 p.m. and the last one leaves at 5: 30 p. m. ; thus creating little or no parking or traffic congestion. . With four children of our own driving, we have more traffic congestion on the weekends than with the childcare. The daycare centers in Carmel all offer care for older infants, toddlers and preschoolers. All of the children I have careJfor as infants are now in daycare centers in Carmel . However, none of them will accept an infant six weeks old, which is when they come to me. This is a much needed service for the working Moms of Carmel, as most are required to return to work in six to eight weeks after the birth of their child, in order to retain their jobs. FRANK M.
