HomeMy WebLinkAbout098-95 SP Trails at Avian Glen Sec 9 & 10 Water Planr-1 SECTION 02610 - WATER MAINS 1, Sc ope of Work The work required under this section Includes all cold water distribution lines, vaives meter pits, hydrants, and related items including excavating and backfilling necessary to complete the work as shown on the Plans. The ends of water service lines shall be tightly pluggeC or capped ct the terminal points pending ttie connecting to all such fires of the building piping cs specified In the plumblrg specifica- tions and architectural drawings. 2. Ductile iron pipe shall meet AWWA C-150 and C-151 Specifications. Pipe to be cement lined ord seal coated in accordance with AWWA C-104. Joints shall be push -on type, T)•ton, Fostlte, Super Bell -Title, or approved equal, except at fittings, valves and special crossings, Joints shall comply with AWWA C-111. Flanged joints shall conform to ASA A21.10 or B'6.1. 3. Copper Tubing. Shall be seamless. K -copper tubing as approved by City of Carmel Specification, All Fittings must be compression type. 4. Fittings: Shall be ductile iron conforming to ANSI Specificction A21.10-1971 (AWWA 0110-71). Fittings shall be desigred and manufactured for a pressure rating of 250 psi. Flttirgs shall be tar -coated and shall be cement- Ilred in accordance with ANSI Specification A21.4-1974 (AWWA C104-74). Fittings joints shall be mechoricel Joints conforming to ANSI Speclflcat?an A21.11-1972 (AWWA 0111-72). 5. Fire Hydrants: Shall comp y with AWWA Specification C-502 and shall meet local stordards and requirements, particular- iy as to nozzie diameters and threads, direction of opening and dimensions of operating and cop nuts. Fire hydrants shall have one pumper and two hose nozzles A valve opening not less than 5 inches and a 6 irch inlet connection. The length of the hydrant barrel shall be determined by the specified depth of cover over the pipe. All private water hydrants are to be painted a color other than that utilized by the Water Company. Hydrants shall be located such that the direction of openings are directed towards the street. 6. Vaives All valves and stops shol! have ends suited or adopters shall be provided for the proper installation it the lines in which they are located. Valves shall meet local standards or in the absence cf such standards, the following requirements: A. Valves it cast Iron pipe shall be iron body, bronze mounted, disc gate valves conforming to AWWA Specifica- tlon C-500. They shalt open in the some direction as those used in the local waterworks system. Valve stems sholi terminate in 2 Inch wrench ruts. Furnish two (2) keys for each valve. B. Valves Ir copper pipe sholi oe standard brass body, rourd-woy, ground -key stops, with T heads. Furnish two (2) keys for each valve. 7. Valve Boxes: Shall meet local standards or In the absence of such, shcll comply with the following requirements: A. For iron body valves, boxes shall be approved standard buffolo-type, cost Iron, adjustable shaft boxes, havirg a minimum shaft diameter of 5-1/4 inches. B For brass body valves (stops) boxes shall be approved standard cost iron extension service boxes, having a minimum diameter of 2-1/2 inches and having lid held in place by a Bross or bronze bolt. The castings shall be coated with two coots of coal -tar pitch vomish. Furnish two (2) keys `or bolt in lids. 8. Plastic Plpe: Flostic pipe is to be Polyvinyl Chloride Pressure Pipe (PVC) to AWWA C-900 standard. Pipe shall be PVC 1120, Type 1, Grade 1, Class 100 Pipe shall conform to ASTM D2241 and shall be PR160 (SDR 26) gasket pipe. Solvent Joints are not acceptable 9. Stops: Stop shot' be these manufactured by Ford or Mueller Corporation with AWWA taper thread, and with copper compres- sion type fitting cos, and are to be protected with plastic bag over the valve. 10. Blow -off Valves: Slow -off valves shall be those manufac- tured by Mueller Corporation (H-10283 or H-102911, or approved equal. 11. The Contractor shall furnish the meter pit(s) of the type as shown on the Contract Plans, (meter shall be furnished by ♦♦� \ the Water Company) along with all necessary quick -discon- nects, valves and appurtenances. Tests: Test the piping for leakage for a period of at least ♦;� two hours at a pressure of '50 pounds per square Inch, ♦ Inspect oil ;brats for leakage and remedy cry eoks. Upon completion of the water dist•;bution mains, flush out the system until the water runs clear As soon as the system has been flushed out, it shall be sterilized in accordance with the requirements of the local water department. New Water Aloln Construction: Contractor to record dirnersion of each water stub and valves form nearest fire hydrant measured along water main. The locations of hydrants and 6 water valves, along with aiy other construction changes ore to be incorporated on the original construction drawings and Record Drowirg" prints submitted to City Engiinee►'s Office as soon after completion of construction cs possible. 21. If a horizontal distance of 10 feet cannot be mointalned between the water lire and sanitary sewer line, one of the following shall be done: A. Water line laid in a separate trench and 18 incnes above top of sewer. B. Water line laid in some trench on a bench of undis- turbed earth one sewer at least 18 inches below bottom of water line. Where water lines and sewers cross and the water line g 4 lueIm cannot be placed above the soritcry sewer with a mini- mum of 18 inches vertical clearance, the sewer must be constructed of water works grade pipe with mechanical joints wlthir ten feet of the water line. 22- This Contractor shoil perform all required flushing/cleaning and testing of water lines. This work shall be performed in accordance with the Standard Specifications. 23. Identif cotion tope shall be installed for oil buried water Tires in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. Tape shall be instciled one foot below find grade over centel of pipe, Tape for ductile Iron and steei pipe sholi be next polyeth- ylene with a minimum thlckress of 4 -mils and shall be 6 inches wide. Tape for PVC pipe shaft be polyethylene with a minimum thickness of 4-mtis and shall have a 1 -mil thick metallic foil core.
