D-2356-17 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA, ADDING SECTION 8-42 TO CHAPTER 8. ARTICLE 4 OF THE CARMEL CITY CODE Synopsis: Ordinance designed to promote . safety and prevent traffic accidents by regulating the use of turn signals in roundab ts. WHEREAS, Indiana Code 9-21 1-3(a)(10) s a municipality to regulate the turning of vehicles at intersections; and / WHEREAS, the Common Counciftas njXv determined that requiring motorists to use their turn signal when exiting a r ndabout i the public interest and in furtherance of public safety. Cakmel Nty Cod)K Chapter 8, Article 4, Section 8-42 shall read as follows: Use of Thkh Siedhl in Roundabouts (a) Motoriks shall use their turn signal to indicate when they will exit a roundgbout bAsignaling after passing the last exit prior to their selected exit. any person who operates a motor vehicle in violation of this section shall, conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not to exceed $100.00, , plus any :able court costs. Section 3. If an onion of this Ordinance is for any reason declared to be unconstitutional or invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this Ordinance so long as enforcement of same can be given the same effect. Section 4. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and signing by the Mayor and such publication as is required by law. This Ordinance was originally prepared by Douglas C. Haney, Carmel Corporation Counsel, on 2/21/17 at 1:31 p.m. It may have been subsequently revised. However, no subsequent revision to this Ordinance has been reviewed by Mr. Haney for legal sufficiency or otherwise.
