Carmel %:: One Civic Square .- Carmel IN 46032 Dear Christine: In 2017, IACT officially transitioned to Aim, Accelerate Indiana Municipalities. What a year! We've added more communications tools and updated our existing resources to be more user-friendly, added a Municipal Innovations Specialist to help tell your stories, and a Grassroots Legislative Advocate to help connect municipal members and lawmakers on a more meaningful level. We also worked aggressively, with great success, to secure sustainable road funding and create more opportunities for cities and towns to create quality communities. New and Improved Communications Tools In 2017 we launched aimindiana.org. Our members can find information on all Aim events and affiliate groups in an easy to navigate, modern format. A section of this forward-thinking new website, The Terminal, offers Aim members, legislators and members of the media a place for learning about the innovation and creativity happening in our cities and towns. We also have a free mobile app - Aim Indiana - that is available in the Apple App Store and on GooglePlay. The recently launched Hometown Innovations Podcast and Hometown Innovations Newsletter are both geared towards spreading the word of how Indiana's largest cities and smallest towns are working to make their communities vibrant places where people choose to live. Municipal Innovations Specialist - Aim's Road Warrior We can fill a website, newsletter and podcast with incredible, timely information because we've been out on the road, in person, gathering your stories. Aim staff has been on the road in 2017 more than ever before. A great deal of our travels has been conducted by our Municipal Innovations Specialist, Chelsea Schneider. If you have an exciting story to tell and you haven't heard from Aim, reach out to Chelsea at cshneider@aimindiana.ora or 317-237-6200, and tell her about the programs or projects going on in your community. Do you think it's too small for The Terminal? It's not. Your work should be showcased and we have more tools than ever to do so! Grassroots Legislative Advocate - Strengthening Partnerships In addition to doing some of our more visible changes noted above, our transition to Aim needed to involve significant emphasis shoring up the strong foundation we have created in our 126 year history. Therefore, we created a position that would be fully dedicated towards building relationships between municipal officials, lawmakers and state executives. We have been able to focus an unprecedented amount of time connecting Aim members with policy makers who have the ability to shape how municipal officials carry out their responsibilities. Whether through meetings in your community, testimony at the statehouse, joint public appearances, or participation in our Aim Legislative Dinner, we are creating many more opportunities to build bridges and create greater understanding among municipal and state officials. These efforts will continue to result in a coalition of leaders acting with the interests of all cities and towns. Historic Road Funding for all Cities and Towns Aim's long-term initiative of a more sustainable funding source for maintaining Indiana's aging local roads and streets reached a major milestone in 2017. A much needed increase in the gas tax, continued funding for Community Crossings, and many other legislative changes, forged an historic move by the legislature and Governor Holcomb to address crumbling infrastructure for our entire state to the tune of $1 .2 Billion in additional funding. Aim members will see the benefits of these changes for decades to come. In just the past twelve months we've accomplished so much. Yet, there's so much more to do! In 2018 we'll expand our efforts and continue to challenge ourselves to be even more innovative, collaborative and modern, while maintaining the core services you expect from Aim. This year will be a year to build upon the momentum and enthusiasm generated by our change. We hope you have noticed this enthusiasm. Most of all, however, we hope you have noticed the results. Here's to a Happy New Year to you and yours. As always, let us know how we can assist you in getting the very most from your Aim membership! Sincerely, Matthew C.
