AGENCY.
B. ALL WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED BY AN APPROVED AUTOMATIC FIRE PROTECTION SPRINKLER
CONTRACTOR. SHOP DRAWINGS AND CALCULATIONS SHALL BE PREPARED BY A REGISTERED
PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER. APPROVED CONTRACTOR AND THE CONTRACTOR'S REGISTERED ENGINEER
SHALL BE LICENSED WITH THE PROPER AUTHORITIES.
C. DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND SHOW THE GENERAL INTENT OF WORK. FINAL CONSTRUCTION
DOCUMENTS, HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS AND PERMITTING SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE FIRE
PROTECTION CONTRACTOR.
D. ALL AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION SHALL BE NOTIFIED AT LEAST THREE (3) WORKING DAYS PRIOR
TO COMMENCEMENT OF WORK.
E. FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE TENANT SPRINKLER SYSTEM SHUT-OFF VALVE AND
VALVE TAMPER SWITCH AND COORDINATE ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS WITH THE ELECTRICAL
CONTRACTOR.
F. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION SHALL BE GIVEN TO AREAS THROUGHOUT THE PREMISES SUCH AS DROPPED
SOFFITS, LIGHTING SOFFITS AND RECESSED STORAGE RACKS THAT NECESSITATE ADDITIONAL
SPRINKLER HEADS.
G. RUN PIPING HORIZONTALLY AND AT RIGHT ANGLES TO WALLS AND CEILINGS. CENTER SPRINKLER
HEADS IN BOTH HORIZONTAL DIRECTION WITH RESPECT TO CEILING COMPONENTS, SUCH AS CEILING
GRID, LIGHT FIXTURES, HVAC DIFFUSERS AND SPEAKERS OR AS DIRECTED BY OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE.
H. PROVIDE MAIN DRAINS AND AUXILIARY DRAINS WHERE NECESSARY.
I. PROVIDE TEST CONNECTIONS AT MOST REMOTE POINT OF MAIN PORTION OF EACH SPRINKLER
SYSTEM.
J. LAYOUT THE SPRINKLER PIPING SO THAT THERE IS A MINIMUM SEPARATION OF 12'' BETWEEN THE
CEILING HEIGHT AND THE BOTTOM OF THE SPRINKLER PIPE OR ROUTE PIPING AROUND LIGHT FIXTURES
TO AVOID CONFLICTS.
K. ALL PIPING SHALL BE ROUTED IN THE SUSPENDED CEILING SPACE, CONCEALED IN WALLS AND BEHIND
FIXED FURNISHINGS, UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED. ALL PIPING EXPOSED TO VIEW SHALL BE ROUTED
AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE AND TIGHT TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE STRUCTURE.
L. REFER TO ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS OR CONSULT ARCHITECT FOR EXACT LOCATION OF FIXTURES,
EQUIPMENT, ETC. AND FINAL FINISHED ELEVATIONS PRIOR TO ANY INSTALLATION WORK.
M. EXISTING SYSTEMS THAT REQUIRE RELOCATION AND SERVE EXISTING FIXTURES OR EQUIPMENT OR
AREAS THAT MUST REMAIN ACTIVE, SHALL BE RELOCATED DURING OWNER SCHEDULED SHUT-DOWNS.
TEMPORARY CONNECTIONS AND EXTENSIONS OF REQUIRED SYSTEMS SHALL BE PROVIDED AS NEEDED
AND AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.
N. CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE AND DOCUMENT EXISTING CONDITIONS WITHIN THE LIMITS OF
DEMOLITION, PRIOR TO START OF ANY WORK.
O. CAREFULLY REVIEW THE INTERIOR DESIGN, ARCHITECTURAL, STRUCTURAL AND ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS
AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL ITEMS TO BE REMOVED, RELOCATED, OR ACCOMMODATED;
INCLUDE ALL COSTS IN BASE BID FOR THIS WORK.
P. THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING DUCTWORK SHOP
DRAWINGS FROM HVAC CONTRACTOR AND COORDINATING ROUTING OF SPRINKLER PIPING. ANY
RELOCATION REQUIRED BY FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR'S FAILURE TO COORDINATE SHALL BE
DONE AT NO COST OR DELAY TO THE OWNER.
Q. DRAINING AND REFILLING OF SYSTEMS AS REQUIRED FOR DEMOLITION AND/OR NEW INSTALLATIONS
WORK, SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS CONTRACTOR. MINIMIZE ANY AND ALL SHUTDOWNS OF
THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM. WHEN REQUESTING A SHUTDOWN, GIVE PROPER NOTICE TO OWNER
WHEN MAKING SHUTDOWNS AND PAY ANY FEES REQUIRED, PERFORM ANY DUTIES REQUIRED BY
OWNER WHEN MAKING A SHUTDOWN, FILL OUT A SHUTDOWN NOTICE FORM ANSWERING ALL ITEMS
REQUESTED SUCH AS TIME AND LOCATION OF SHUTDOWN, SYSTEMS AFFECTED, AREAS AFFECTED, ETC..
PROVIDE FIRE WATCH AS REQUIRED DURING A SHUTDOWN. DURATION OF SHUTDOWNS SHALL BE
KEPT TO A MINIMUM. IN NO CASE SHALL THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM BE SHUTDOWN DURING OFF
HOURS OF WORK DAY WITHOUT A FIRE WATCH. SYSTEM SHALL BE RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATING
CONDITIONS AT END OF WORK DAY.
R. ALL SPRINKLERS IN CEILINGS SHALL BE RECESSED PENDENT HEADS OF TYPE AND FINISH APPROVED BY
THE ARCHITECT AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGER. ALL SPRINKLERS IN OPEN CEILING AREA SHALL BE
UPRIGHT PENDENT TYPE OF FINISH APPROVED BY THE ARCHITECT AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGER.
S. THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM A FLOW TEST. INFORMATION FROM THE
CONTRACTOR'S FLOW TEST SHALL BE USED FOR THE CONTRACTOR'S HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS AND
SHALL INCLUDE A 10% SAFETY FACTOR.

THIS PLAN IS PREPARED TO ASSIST FIRE PROTECTION
(SUB)CONTRACTORS IN SUBMITTING A BID. SUCCESSFUL
LICENSED FIRE PROTECTION (SUB)CONTRACTOR SHALL
PREPARE DETAILED CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS,
PERFORM DETAILED HYDRAULIC FLOW CALCULATIONS,

1. AN AUTOMATIC FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS EXISTING WITHIN THIS SPACE. THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR
SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL SYSTEM REWORK AND MODIFY FOR NEW ROOM LAYOUT AND CEILING
HEIGHTS IN CONFORMANCE WITH NFPA 13 STANDARDS AND ALL STATE & LOCAL CODES &
REGULATIONS. GC SHALL SELECT A QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR APPROVED BY
THE LANDLORD TO DESIGN AND INSTALL MODIFICATIONS TO EXISTING SYSTEM. ALL WORK SHALL BE
DONE BY A QUALIFIED SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR WHO SHALL DESIGN AND PREPARE SHOP DRAWINGS
AND SUBMIT THEM TO THE CITY AND LANDLORD FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO FABRICATION.
2. CONTRACTOR IS REQUIRED TO NOTIFY LANDLORD A MINIMUM OF 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE OF ANY
SPRINKLER DRAIN DOWNS. PRIOR TO SHUTDOWN, CONTRACTOR MUST ASSIST THE LL IN EVALUATING
THE WORK TO BE COMPLETED AND ENSURE THAT PRECAUTIONS HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO PREVENT FIRES.
GENERAL CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE CARE TO REPAIR OR REPLACE MATERIALS DAMAGED BY SPRINKLER
SYSTEM INSTALLATION AND TESTING.
SPRINKLER HEAD LOCATION NOTES:
1. ALL LOCATIONS INDICATED ARE TO BE MAINTAINED WITHIN PLUS OR MINUS 1/2", AND ALIGNED WITH
ADJACENT HEADS FOR A UNIFORM, EVEN APPEARANCE OF COMPLETED INSTALLATION. POSITIONS
INDICATED APPLY TO FULL SIZE SMOOTH SURFACE TILES, AS WELL AS FULL SIZE SUB-GRIDDED (SCORED
OR GRAPHICALLY DIVIDED) SURFACE TILES. THE APPEARANCE OF THE FINISHED CEILING TILE FACE AS
INSTALLED OVERRIDES THE ACTUAL PHYSICAL DIMENSIONS OF THE TILE FOR PLACEMENTS INDICATED
HEREIN. VERIFY CEILING TILE TYPES FROM ARCHITECTURAL DOCUMENTATION.
2. RECESSED PENDANT SPRINKLER HEADS TO BE INSTALLED WITH DEFLECTORS AT SAME ELEVATION AS
ADJACENT SPRINKLERS IN SAME AREA/ENCLOSURE, PLUS OR MINUS 1/4". RECESSED HEADS TO BE
INSTALLED SO DEFLECTOR IS A MAXIMUM OF 1" BELOW THE ELEVATION OF THE CEILING PLANE.
CONCEALED HEADS TO BE INSTALLED WITH COVERS FLUSH TO CEILING PLANE IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.
3. INSTALLATION OF ALL SPRINKLER HEADS TO BE COORDINATED WITH STRUCTURE AND WORK OF OTHER
TRADES, VERIFIED IN ADVANCE BY THE FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR.
4. VERIFY EXACT TYPE, FINISH AND LOCATION OF ALL HEADS WITH ARCHITECT AND AND CONSTRUCTION
MANAGER PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
5. HEADS TO BE SEMI-RECESSED WHEN IN CEILING TILES & SURFACES. USE STANDARD HEADS IN OPEN
CEILING CONDITIONS. CENTER SPRINKLER HEADS IN OPEN CEILING CONDITIONS. CENTER SPRINKLER
HEADS IN CENTER OF TILE WHEN USED. SPRINKLER HEADS MUST BE CONCEALED TYPE IN THE DRYWALL
CEILING.
GENERAL NOTES:
1. MODIFY EXISTING FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR NEW OPEN CEILING DESIGN. PROVIDE A FULLY AUTOMATIC WET PIPE
SPRINKLER PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR THIS AREA PER NFPA PAMPHLET NO. 13 ORDINARY HAZARD GROUP 1

OCCUPANCY REQUIREMENTS: 0.10 GPM PER SQUARE FOOT OF FLOOR AREA WHEN ALL SPRINKLERS WITHIN THE MOST

2.6 PIPING HANGERS AND SUPPORTS
A. PIPING SHALL BE BE ADEQUATELY SUPPORTED BY MEANS OF HANGERS AND SUPPORTS, AND
BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH NFPA PAMPHLET 13. CARRY OVERHEARD LINES DIRECTLY ON
SUPPORTS OR SUSPEND BY HANGERS FROM SUPPORTS. FURNISH REQUIRED SUPPORTING
STEEL, HANGER, ETC.
B. PIPING AT EQUIPMENT AND CONTROL VALVES, ETC. SHALL BE SUPPORTED SO THAT THOSE
ELEMENTS/ITEMS CAN BE REMOVED WITHOUT PROVIDING ADDITIONAL SUPPORT ELEMENTS.
PIPING SHALL NOT INTRODUCE ANY STRAINS OR DISTORTIONS ON CONNECTED EQUIPMENT.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PIPING INSTALLATION
A. INSTALL "INSPECTOR'S TEST CONNECTIONS" IN SPRINKLER PIPING, COMPLETE WITH SHUTOFF
VALVE.
B. INSTALL SPRINKLER ZONE CONTROL VALVES, TEST ASSEMBLIES, AND DRAIN HEADERS
ADJACENT TO STANDPIPES.
C. INSTALL BALL DRIP VALVES TO DRAIN PIPING BETWEEN FIRE DEPARTMENT CONNECTIONS
AND CHECK VALVES. DRAIN TO FLOOR DRAIN OR OUTSIDE BUILDING.
D. INSTALL ALARM DEVICES IN PIPING SYSTEMS AND CONNECT TO FIRE-ALARM SYSTEM.
E. PROTECT PIPING FROM EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE AS REQUIRED BY NFPA 13.
F. INSTALL PRESSURE GAGES ON RISER OR FEED MAIN, AT EACH SPRINKLER TEST CONNECTION,
AND AT TOP OF EACH STANDPIPE. INSTALL GAGES TO PERMIT REMOVAL, AND INSTALL
WHERE THEY WILL NOT BE SUBJECT TO FREEZING.
G. INSTALL FIRE-PROTECTION SERVICE VALVES SUPERVISED-OPEN, LOCATED TO CONTROL
SOURCES OF WATER SUPPLY EXCEPT FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT CONNECTIONS. WHERE THERE
IS MORE THAN ONE CONTROL VALVE, PROVIDE PERMANENTLY MARKED IDENTIFICATION
SIGNS INDICATING PORTION OF SYSTEM CONTROLLED BY EACH VALVE.
3.2 SPRINKLER SCHEDULE
A. ROOMS WITHOUT CEILINGS: UPRIGHT SPRINKLERS.
