FIRE ALARM SYSTEM GENERAL NOTES BASIC ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS A. INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SHALL CONFORM TO NATIONAL, STATE AND LOCAL CODES. CONFLICT BETWEEN CODES THE MOST STRINGENT SHALL APPLY. B. WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED BY INDIVIDUALS SKILLED IN WORK OF SPECIFIC TRADE INVOLVED. C. PERFORM ALL WORK IN ACCORDANCE WITH INDUSTRY STANDARDS OF PRACTICE AND WORKMANSHIP AS DESCRIBED IN ANSI/NECA 1-2006 - GOOD WORKMANSHIP IN ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING. D. ALL WORK SHALL BE PRESENT A NEAT MECHANICAL APPEARANCE WHEN COMPLETED. E. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WITH OTHER TRADES PRIOR TO INSTALL. F. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY EXISTING AND SITE CONDITIONS PRIOR TO COMMENCING ANY WORK. CONTRACTOR SHALL IMMEDIATELY BRING TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ENGINEER ANY DISCREPANCIES FOUND BETWEEN THE CONTACT DOCUMENTS AND SITE CONDITIONS. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING ALL DIMENSIONS AND INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS FOR MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT TO BE PROVIDED. G. WORK INDICATED IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS IS TO PROVIDE THE INTENT OF THE WORK REQUIRED. H. UNLESS SPECIFICALLY DIMENSIONED OR OTHERWISE NOTED, EQUIPMENT LOCATIONS AND CONNECTION POINTS ARE APPROXIMATE AND ARE TO BE VERIFIED BY CONTRACTOR AS PART OF THE WORK OF THE CONTRACT. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING ALL DIMENSIONS AND INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS FOR MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT PROVIDED. I. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTION OF ALL CONSTRUCTION DURING WORK UNDER HIS CONTRACT. J. ALL LOW VOLTAGE POWER BUILDING WIRING SHALL BE RATED 600V AND INSTALLED IN RACEWAY. K. EMT SHALL BE USED AS FOLLOWS: a. CONCEALED BUILDING CAVITIES - ABOVE CEILINGS AND WALLS b. EXPOSED - IN AREAS NOT SUBJECT TO PHYSICAL DAMAGE L. IMC SHALL BE USED AS FOLLOWS: a. INSTALLATION OF COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM SHALL CONFORM WITH BISCI STANDARDS AS PRESCRIBED IN “TELECOMMUNICATIONS DISTRIBUTION METHODS MANUAL,” 13 TH EDITION. B. THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE HORIZONTAL CABLE LENGTH IS 295 FEET (90 M). THIS MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE LENGTH DOES NOT INCLUDE AN ALLOWANCE FOR THE LENGTH OF 16 FEET TO THE WORKSTATION EQUIPMENT OR IN THE HORIZONTAL CROSS-CONNECT. C. CONTACT PROVIDERS AND ARRANGE FOR INSTALLATION OF DEMARCATION POINT, PROTECTED ENTRANCE TERMINALS, AND A HOUSING WHEN SO DIRECTED BY SERVICE PROVIDERS. D. PATCH PANELS, CABLING AND TERMINATIONS SHALL BE COMPLIANT TO CAT 6A, VOIP, AND POE REQUIREMENTS. SYSTEM EQUIPMENT AND CABLING SHALL BE COMMSCOPE SYSTIMAX. E. WITHIN ALL IT ROOMS, PROVIDE FIRE RATED PLYWOOD BACK BOARD ON THREES WALLS (OPPOSITE DOOR). MOUNT BACKBOARD FROM 24” A.F.F. TO 96” A.F.F. F. SYSTEM WRING SHALL BE INSTALLED EXPOSED ABOVE ACCESSIBLE CEILINGS. BUNDLE AND TRAIN CABLING AND SUPPORT WITH J-HOOKS. CABLING ROUTED IN EXPOSED AREAS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN EMT WITHIN THE INTERIOR OF THE BUILDING. EXPOSED EXTERIOR CABLE ROUTES AND THOSE WITHIN THE GARAGE SHALL BE INSTALLED IN EMT 96” AND ABOVE. BELOW 96”, INSTALL IN IMC. GENERATOR GENERAL NOTES A. PROVIDE STANDBY POWER SYSTEM TO SUPPLY ELECTRICAL POWER AT 480 VOLTS, 60 HERTZ, 3 PHASE. THE SYSTEM WILL UTILIZE GENERATOR RATED 175KW. THE GENERATOR SHALL CONSIST OF A LIQUID COOLED NATURAL GAS ENGINE, A SYNCHRONOUS AC ALTERNATOR, AND SYSTEM CONTROLS WITH ALL NECESSARY ACCESSORIES FOR A COMPLETE OPERATING SYSTEM. B. THE GENERATOR SET MUST CONFORM TO APPLICABLE NFPA, UL 2200, AND EPA REQUIREMENTS. C. THE GENERATOR SYSTEM SHALL SUPPORT GENERATOR START-UP AND LOAD TRANSFER WITHIN 10 SECONDS. D. THE ENGINE FUEL SYSTEM SHALL BE DESIGNED FOR OPERATION ON NATURAL GAS E. THE GENSET SHALL HAVE AN AUTOMATIC DUAL RATE, FLOAT EQUALIZE, 10-AMP BATTERY CHARGER. THE CHARGER MUST BE PROTECTED AGAINST A REVERSE POLARITY CONNECTION. THE CHARGERS CHARGING CURRENT SHALL BE MONITORED WITHIN THE GENERATOR CONTROLLER TO SUPPORT REMOTE MONITORING AND DIAGNOSTICS. THE BATTERY CHARGER IS TO BE FACTORY INSTALLED ON THE GENERATOR SET. DUE TO LINE VOLTAGE DROP CONCERNS, A BATTERY CHARGER MOUNTED IN THE TRANSFER SWITCH WILL BE UNACCEPTABLE. F. AN ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM), SHALL MONITOR AND CONTROL ENGINE FUNCTIONALITY AND SEAMLESSLY INTEGRATE WITH THE GENSET CONTROLLER THROUGH DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS. ECM MONITORED PARAMETERS SHALL BE INTEGRATED INTO THE GENSET CONTROLLERS NFPA 110 ALARM AND WARNING REQUIREMENTS. ALL ECM FAULT CODES SHALL BE DISPLAYED AT THE GENSET CONTROLLER IN STANDARD LANGUAGE - FAULT CODE NUMBERS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. G. THE MANUFACTURER SHALL SUPPLY A CRITICAL GRADE EXHAUST SILENCER AS STANDARD. THE SILENCER SHALL BE SELECTED TO ACHIEVE SITE SOUND LEVEL OF 70 DBA AT 23FT. H. ALL EXHAUST PIPING FROM THE TURBO-CHARGER DISCHARGE TO THE SILENCER SHALL BE THERMALLY WRAPPED TO MINIMIZE HEAT DISSIPATION INSIDE THE ENCLOSURE. I. THE ENGINE INTAKE AIR IS TO BE FILTERED WITH ENGINE MOUNTED, REPLACEABLE, DRY ELEMENT FILTERS. J. THE GENERATOR CONTROL SYSTEM SHALL BE A FULLY INTEGRATED MICROPROCESSOR BASED CONTROL SYSTEM FOR STANDBY EMERGENCY ENGINE GENERATORS MEETING ALL REQUIREMENTS OF NFPA 110 LEVEL 1. K. THE ENGINE/ALTERNATOR SHALL BE ISOLATED FROM THE GENERATOR FRAME WITH RUBBER ISOLATORS. THE PACKAGING SHALL NOT REQUIRE THE ADDITION OF EXTERNAL SPRING ISOLATORS. L. THERMAL MAGNETIC CIRCUIT BREAKERS CARRYING THE UL MARK SHALL BE FACTORY INSTALLED. THE BREAKERS SHALL BE RATED AS INDICATED. THE LINE SIDE CONNECTIONS ARE TO BE MADE AT THE FACTORY. OUTPUT LUGS SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR LOAD SIDE CONNECTIONS. M. THE GENSET SHALL BE PACKAGED WITH A SOUND ATTENUATING WEATHER PROTECTIVE ENCLOSURE RATED FOR 75DBA OR LOWER. THE ENCLOSURE SHALL BE COATED WITH ELECTROSTATIC APPLIED POWDER PAINT, BAKED AND FINISHED TO MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS. THE COLOR WILL BE MANUFACTURER'S STANDARD. N. THE UTILIZATION OF A DISCHARGE HOOD AND THE LOCATION OF THE SILENCER CAN HAVE SIGNIFICANT PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY RAMIFICATIONS. GENERATORS THAT UTILIZE AN UPWARD POINTING, DISCHARGE HOOD ENSURE PROTECTION AGAINST PREVAILING WINDS, CIRCULATING DISCHARGE, AND VANDALISM. DESIGNERS OFTEN COMPENSATE FOR VANDALISM BY SECURING THE GENSET IN AN ENCLOSED AREA WHICH MAY SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE PROBABILITY OF CIRCULATING RADIATOR DISCHARGE FOR GENERATORS WITHOUT A DISCHARGE HOOD. SILENCERS GET VERY HOT WHICH CAN STRESS COMPONENTS IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA. SILENCERS ARE ALSO ARCHITECTURALLY LESS DESIRABLE WHEN LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE ENCLOSURE. O. THE ENCLOSURE SHALL UTILIZE AN UPWARD DISCHARGING RADIATOR HOOD. P. THE PACKAGING SHALL INCLUDE A DOUBLE WALL, SUB-BASE MOUNTED, UL142 [UL2085] LISTED FUEL TANK. THE TANK SHALL BE SIZED TO PROVIDE 24 HOURS OF RUN TIME. Q. BEFORE SHIPMENT OF THE EQUIPMENT, THE ENGINE-GENERATOR SET SHALL BE TESTED UNDER RATED LOAD FOR PERFORMANCE AND PROPER FUNCTIONING OF CONTROL AND INTERFACING CIRCUITS. TESTS SHALL INCLUDE: VERIFY VOLTAGE & FREQUENCY STABILITY, VERIFY TRANSIENT VOLTAGE & FREQUENCY DIP RESPONSE, LOAD TEST THE GENERATOR FOR 2 HOURS. R. THE SUPPLIER OF THE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT AND ASSOCIATED ITEMS COVERED HEREIN SHALL PROVIDE FACTORY TRAINED TECHNICIANS TO VALIDATE THE COMPLETED INSTALLATION AND TO PERFORM AN INITIAL STARTUP INSPECTION TO INCLUDE: 1. ENSURING THE ENGINE STARTS (BOTH HOT AND COLD) WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TIME. 2. VERIFICATION OF ENGINE PARAMETERS WITHIN SPECIFICATION. 3. VERIFY NO LOAD FREQUENCY AND VOLTAGE, ADJUSTING IF REQUIRED. 4. TEST ALL AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWNS OF THE ENGINE-GENERATOR. 5. PERFORM A LOAD TEST OF THE ELECTRIC PLANT, ENSURING FULL LOAD FREQUENCY AND VOLTAGE ARE WITHIN SPECIFICATION BY USING BUILDING LOAD. S. TRAINING IS TO BE SUPPLIED BY THE START-UP TECHNICIAN FOR THE END-USER DURING COMMISSIONING. THE TRAINING SHOULD COVER BASIC GENERATOR OPERATION AND COMMON GENERATOR ISSUES THAT CAN BE MANAGED BY THE END-USER. 05/01/18 Nick Mishler
