CAUCUS ROOM, CARMEL CITY HALL In attendance: Members Present: Fred Swift, Nick Davis, Ron Carter, Curtis Butcher, Rosemary Dunkle Members Not Present: Bill Sanders, Becky Feigh HPC Administrator: Mark Dollase Guests: 1. Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 6:06 P.M. by Chairman Nick Davis. 2. Roll Call 3. Approval of Minutes (5-10-2018) Fred Swift motioned to approve the minutes and Curtis Butcher seconded. Motion passed unanimously 5-0. 4. Hearing of Visitors: None 5. Certificate of Appropriateness No discussion 6. Financial Report—Curtis Butcher provided the report, including a balance of $75,747.25. 7. Old Business a. Potential Local Historic Districts i. Wilkinson-Hull House Ron provided a report on his discussion with Mark Brennan. He shared a plan developed by Justin Moffett for his proposed plan, a plan which includes preservation of the Wilkinson-Hull House and incorporation into the development. All agreed that the Commission would move forward with designation as planned as the project progresses. b. 4026 W. 141st St. (listed at $2.4 million; includes c. 1850 house on 23+ acres) Mark Dollase reported that this property is for sale, and he had gotten a call from a realtor about possible demolition of the historic house. He encouraged retention of the house and incorporation into a possible addition. c. 241 1st Ave. SE (listed at $525,000; includes c. 1880 house on two parcels) The house at this property is for sale, and like many in Old Town, under great development pressure. 8. New Business a. Second round of 2018 façade grants June 2018 Minutes 2 Mark Dollase proposed the idea of a second round of façade grants for surveyed properties in City of Carmel. There was general support for the idea, with a request by Commissioner Swift to weight the points to support rehab of 19th century properties in this round. Mark Dollase said letters would be mailed to owners and two public sessions scheduled. Fred Swift made a motion to appropriate up to $25,000 in available funds for the façade grants; Curtis Butcher seconded. The motion passed 5- 0. b. Other Business There was discussion led by Fred Swift about the future of the Wise House on Hazel Dell Parkway, and all agreed an effort should be made to save it. Curtis and Fred to set a meeting with Mike Antrim to discuss. Ron Carter also raised a concern about the office building at Conner Prairie, and he will call to arrange a meeting to discuss its future. 10. Announcements 11.
