On Saturday,September 15, 2018,your fallen member will be among those honored at the 2018 IAFF
Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Ceremony in Colorado Springs, Colorado when the IAFF adds 261 names to
the Wall of Honor. The complete list of 2018 honorees is attached.
Dates: September 12- 16,2018;the Ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 11:00 a.m.
Host Hotel:The Antlers, downtown Colorado Springs.
• All rooms at The Antlers are currently being held for the families of the honorees only.
• Rooms are limited to one (1) room per honoree family and are on a first come,first serve basis.
• To reserve the room for the family,email the IAFF Conference and Event Planning Department:
cep@iaff.org Rates: $167&$177(Mountain View)+tax.
• The room must be reserved by May 1,2018.
• Multiple rooms can be reserved for families at the Holiday Inn Express(Spruce St.) and the Hotel
Elegante Conference& Event Center(S. Circle Dr.) by contacting Conference& Event Planning.
• Other area hotels are listed on the attached Travel & Lodging pamphlet and on the Fallen Fire
Fighter Memorial Travel & Lodging page on the IAFF website:

• Families may arrive any time beginning Wednesday but at least by Friday, September 14 to attend
the Family& Escort meeting at 3:30 p.m. at the host hotel.
• Family Registration opens on Wednesday,September 12, 2018 at Noon at the host hotel. Families
can pick up their credentials from Noon on Wednesday through Friday.

Local/Member Participation:
We would like to have members of your local participate as the Escort for the honoree's family and in
the Ceremony as Honor Guard:
• Flag Presenter(presents the [AFF encased flag to the family)
• Flag Bearer(carries your local's or state association's colors).
• If your local has multiple honorees, an Escort, Flag Presenter and Flag Bearer are needed for
each. If this is not possible, please contact the IAFF Honor Guard Commander.
• Host hotel for the HG is the Hotel Elegante Conference& Event Center on South Circle Drive,
Colorado Springs. IAFF will provide transportation to and from the hotel.
• The Honor Guard must attend a mandatory meeting on Thursday at 4pm at the Hotel Elegante,
attend HG practice at the Memorial site on Friday and on Saturday morning before the Ceremony.
• All participants are required to pre-register online at www.iaff.org(click on Fallen Fire Fighter
Memorial under the Upcoming Events section). There will be no onsite HG registration.
• Attached are the HG Commanders' &Pipe Major's contact information,the HG/P&D agenda and
ground rules. Contact the HG Commanders with any questions regarding HG duties.
Action Items
• Contact deceased member's family asap to discuss their plans on attending and the role of the local
such as:
o Will the local cover any of the expenses?
o Does the family have specific local members they wish to serve as the flag presenter and/or
flag bearer?
o How many family members will attend?
■ How many rooms are needed?
• Area hotels sell out quickly. Book rooms for additional family members and local members
attending the service at nearby hotels.
• June 1,2018-Register all Families, Honor Guard, Pipers& Drummers, IAFF members,and guests
attending the memorial service. Go to the IAFF website at www.iaff.org and click on Fallen Fire
Fighter Memorial under the section "Upcoming Events." Anyone needing assistance can contact me
at 202-824-8639 or iwilev@iaff.org.
• IAFF does not cover family or local's expenses.
o The IAFF will provide transportation to and from select area hotels,to the airport, Memorial
site, downtown and just about anywhere families may wish to go.
o IAFF hosts a Welcome Reception on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and buffet breakfast on
Saturday morning beginning at 6:00 a.m.
o The IAFF also provides childcare by licensed childcare professionals on Friday and Saturday
evening, 6:00 pm to Midnight at the host hotel.

Emotional.support& psychiatric service animals can fly at no charge when traveling with you on

transported on the aircraft in carry-on and/or checked baggage. Changes in temperature or

Oxygen bottles/ Liquid oxygen, Flammable liquids, Pesticides/ Poison, Corrosive material.
There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet
articles carried in your luggage, spare lithium batteries for most consumer electronic devices in
carry-on baggage, and certain smoking materials carried on your person.
Certain items are required to be carried with you onboard the aircraft. For example, spare
lithium batteries for portable electronic devices, cigarette lighters and e-cigarettes must be
removed from checked or gate-checked baggage and carried onboard the aircraft. However, e-
cigarettes may not be used on-board the aircraft.
Traveling with medical.oxygen, liquid oxygen, mobility aids.and other assistive devices may

The 32nd IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15 in Colorado Springs,
Colorado.At this year's memorial service,the IAFF will add 261 fallen fire fighters from the United States and
Canada to the Wall of Honor.
The Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial, located in the shadow of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, honors the sacrifice
made by IAFF members who have given their lives in the line of duty.
The annual ceremony remains an uplifting service for the families,friends and loved ones, celebrating the
lives, heroism and accomplishments of our union's bravest of the brave.
