MECHANICAL AND PLUMBING NOTES: 1. ALL WORK AND EQUIPMENT SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENT OF THE MOST RECENTLY REVISED VERSION OF ALL APPLICABLE LAWS, RULES, REGULATION, AND ORDINANCES OF FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES, WHETHER INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS OR NOT. 2. ADHERE TO THE DRAWINGS WHEN REQUIREMENTS ARE STRICTER THAN CODE REQUIREMENTS AND ARE PERMITTED UNDER THE CODE. 3. REPORT ANY ALTERATION TO AND/OR DEVIATIONS FROM THE DRAWINGS AS REQUIRED BY THE ABOVE AUTHORITIES TO THE ARCHITECT AND SECURE HIS APPROVAL BEFORE STARTING ALTERATIONS. 4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REQUEST SUPPLEMENTARY INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE ARCHITECT IN ALL CASES OF DOUBT AS TO THE WORK INTENDED, OR IF ADDITIONAL EXPLANATION IS NEEDED. 5. REFER TO BUILDING STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS IF ANY DISCREPANCIES OCCUR. ALL MATERIALS /EQUIPMENT TO BE USED IN THIS PROJECT SHALL BE AS PER BUILDING STANDARD. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT SPECIFIED ARE PROTOTYPE THAT CONFORM TO BUILDING STANDARD. COORDINATE WITH BUILDING (LANDLORD) PROPERTY MANAGER. 6. CONTRACTOR SHALL FIELD VERIFY EXISTING CONDITION PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION. ALL WORK AND SCHEDULING DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE TENANT BELOW AND BUILDING OWNER/ENGINEER. 7. CONTRACTOR SHALL MEASURE EXISTING SUPPLY AIR AND DISTRIBUTE PROPORTIONATELY TO THE SPECIFIED CFM ON THE PLAN. 8. ALL EXISTING DUCTWORK, VAV BOXES, AND PIPES SHOWN ON PLANS ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INFORMATION PROVIDED ON THE EXISTING DRAWING(S). 9. ALL SUPPLY/RETURN DUCTWORK AND SHEET METAL PLENUMS INSIDE CEILING SPACE SHALL BE FULLY INSULATED. SEE INSULATION SPECIFICATIONS THIS SHEET. 10. ALL DUCT SIZES INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS ARE THE CLEAR INSIDE NET DIMENSIONS. INTERNALLY LINED DUCTWORK SHALL BE INCREASED IN BOTH DIMENSIONS BY TWICE THE THICKNESS OF THE LINER. 11. INSULATED FLEXIBLE DUCT SHALL BE PROVIDED IN DUCTWORK CONNECTED TO VARIOUS AIR OUTLETS, ETC., AS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS. MINIMUM LENGTH SHALL BE 4'-0" AND MAXIMUM LENGTH SHALL BE 6'-0" AND SHALL REQUIRE NO MORE THAN TWO ELBOWS WHEN INSTALLED. A HARD DUCT SHALL BE INSTALLED AND EXTENDED BEFORE THE FLEXIBLE DUCT TO A POINT WHERE THE MAX./MIN. LENGTH REQUIREMENT CAN BE ACHIEVED. 12. INSULATED FLEXIBLE DUCT SHALL BE PROVIDED IN DUCTWORK CONNECTION TO PRIMARY (INTAKE) SIDE OF VAV BOXES. MAXIMUM LENGTH SHALL BE 1'-0" WITH NO ELBOWS. A HARD DUCT SHALL BE INSTALLED AND EXTENDED BEFORE THE FLEXIBLE DUCT TO A POINT WHERE MAXIMUM LENGTH CAN BE ACHIEVED. 13. PROVIDE ACOUSTICAL LINING FOR ALL FLEXIBLE AND SECONDARY DUCTWORK DOWNSTREAM OF ALL FAN POWERED VAV BOXES. PROVIDE A MINIMUM OF 10'-0" OF ACOUSTICAL LINING FOR FLEXIBLE AND SECONDARY DUCTWORK AFTER ALL OTHER VAV BOXES. (TYPICAL FOR ALL FAN POWERED DEVICES.) 14. PROVIDE 0'-6" FLEXIBLE CONNECTION BETWEEN VAV BOX AND SECONDARY DUCTWORK. 15. ALL TRANSFER DUCTS SHALL HAVE 1" ACOUSTICAL LINING. 16. REFER TO THE ARCHITECTURAL REFLECTED CEILING PLAN FOR EXACT LOCATION OF ALL CEILING MOUNTED AIR DISTRIBUTION EQUIPMENT. 17. CAP AND SEAL (AIRTIGHT) ALL UNUSED DUCTWORK OPENINGS. - EXISTING DUCTWORK TO REMAIN 18. PROVIDE VOLUME DAMPERS AT EACH BRANCH TAKE -OFF FROM SECONDARY DUCTWORK. - CEILING DIFFUSER TO BE REMOVED ALL VOLUME DAMPERS ABOVE INACCESSIBLE CEILINGS SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH BOWDEN - CEILING REMOTE CABLE CONTROLS AS MANUFACTURED BY YOUNG REGULATOR COMPANY OR NEW DUCTWORK WITH FIRE DAMPER/OR APPROVED EQUAL. INSULATE ALL DOMESTIC HOT AND COLD WATER LINES WITH 1/2" THICKNESS OWENS CORNING FIBERGLASS 25 ASJ, JOHNS -MANVILLE AP, OR APPROVED EQUAL. ALL INSULATION SHALL BE SEALED TO PREVENT SWEATING AND SHALL BE CONTINUOUS THROUGH WALL, FLOORS, CEILINGS, ETC. 33. PLUMBING FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BE INSTALLED COMPLETE WITH TRIM AND ALL OTHER APPURTENANCES REQUIRED TO CONNECT TO ROUGH -IN PIPING AT FLOORS AND WALLS UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. 34. THE DRAWINGS WERE PREPARED FROM THE BEST INFORMATION AVAILABLE, BUT DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INDICATE THE LOCATION OF ALL EXISTING EQUIPMENT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CAREFULLY INVESTIGATE THE CONDITIONS SURROUNDING THE INSTALLATION OF WORK PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH THE INSTALLATION. CHANGES REQUIRED TO THE DESIGN SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS DUE TO EXISTING CONDITIONS SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE A/E AND BUILDING OWNER FOR REVIEW BY WAY OF SHOP DRAWINGS OR SKETCHES DETAILING THE EXISTING CONDITIONS AND THE PROPOSED CHANGES. 35. COORDINATE NEW SLAB -TO -SLAB WALLS WITH EXISTING DUCTWORK AND EXISTING TERMINAL UNITS. MECHANICAL AND PLUMBING SPECIFICATIONS: 1. DUCTWORK: A. ALL HVAC SUPPLY AND RETURN AIR DUCTWORK SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED AS FOLLOWS: LOW PRESSURE - CLASS 2" W.G. SEALED WITH SEAL CLASS "C" HIGH PRESSURE - CLASS 6" W.G. SEALED WITH SEAL CLASS "A" B. DUCTWORK SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST EDITIONS OF ASHRAE AND SMACNA DUCT STANDARDS. THE INSIDE RADIUS OF ALL CURVES AND BENDS SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN THE WIDTH OF THE DUCT (IN THE PLANE OF THE BEND). BELOW THIS RADIUS, SQUARE ELBOWS WITH TURNING VANES SHALL BE USED. 1. THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM CONSTRUCTION MUST BE PROVIDED. NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE FOLLOWING WILL BE GRANTED. a. LONGITUDINAL SEAMS SHALL BE PITTSBURGH TYPE. b. DUCT JOINTS UP TO 18" SHALL BE DRIVE -SLIP TYPE; OVER 18" SHALL BE EITHER STANDING SLIP, STANDING SEAM POINT, OR POCKET LOCK. ALL JOINTS MUST BE SEALED WITH THE APPROPRIATE DUCT SEALANT. c. SHEET METAL TRANSITIONS SHALL BE MADE WITH SLOPES NOT EXCEEDING ONE TO SEVEN (1:7). THE INSIDE RADIUS OF ALL CURVES AND BENDS SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN THE WIDTH OF THE DUCT (IN THE PLANE OF THE BEND). BELOW THIS RADIUS, SQUARE ELBOWS WITH TURNING VANES SHALL BE USED. 2. DUCT INSULATION: A. ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS: JOHNS -MANVILLE, OWENS-CORNING, CGS. JM, AND KNAUFF UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. B. ADHESIVES AND COATINGS SHALL BE AS MANUFACTURED BY INSULCOUSTIC, BENJAMIN -FOSTER, OR APPROVED EQUAL. C. INSULATE AS FOLLOWS: 1. ALL SUPPLY AND RETURN DUCTWORK AND PLENUMS: TYPE D-1 FOR CONCEALED WITHIN HUNG CEILING CAVITY, SHAFTS, FURRING SPACES, AND TYPE D-2 FOR EXPOSED DUCTWORK. WHERE EXISTING INSULATION TO REMAIN IS DAMAGED IN THE COURSE OF DEMOLITION OR MODIFICATION, THE DAMAGED INSULATION SHALL BE REPLACED WITH NEW INSULATION AND ADHESIVES AS SPECIFIED ABOVE. 2. TYPE D-1, DUCT INSULATION WITH VAPOR BARRIER: DUCT INSULATION SHALL BE 1-1/2" THICK 1-1/2 LB PER CUBIC FOOT DENSITY FIBERGLASS WITH A MAXIMUM K FACTOR OF 0.29 AT 757 MEAN TEMPERATURE, WITH REINFORCED FOIL -FACED VAPOR BARRIER. INSTALL AS PER MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATION. 3. TYPE D-2, RIGID DUCT INSULATION WITH VAPOR BARRIER: RIGID DUCT INSULATION SHALL BE ONE INCH IN THICKNESS, 4 LBS PER CUBIC FOOT DENSITY FIBERGLASS WITH MAXIMUM K FACTOR OF 0.24 AT 757 MEAN TEMPERATURE WITH VAPOR BARRIER FACING. THE INSULATION SHALL BE PROTECTED WITH A 19 GAUGE ALUMINUM JACKET. INSTALL AS PER MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATION. 4. PROVIDE 1/2" THICK RIGID FIBERBOARD SLEEVE WHEREVER NEW DUCTWORK PENETRATED WALLS, FLOOR SLABS, PARTITIONS, ETC. SPACE BETWEEN DUCT AND WALL SLEEVE AND BETWEEN DUCT AND SLAB OPENING SHALL BE TIGHTLY PACKAGED WITH MINERAL WOOL AND SEALED WITH APPROVED TYPE NON -HARDENING CAULKING COMPOUND. 5. ALL INSULATION SHALL HAVE A COMPOSITE (INSULATION, JACKET, OR FACING, AND ADHESIVE USED TO ADHERE THE FACING OR JACKET TO THE INSULATION) FIRE AND SMOKE HAZARD RATING AS TESTED BY PROCEDURE ASTM -E84, NFPA-255, AND UL -723 NOT EXCEEDING: FLAME 25 SMOKE DEVELOPED 50 6. ACCESSORIES SUCH AS ADHESIVES, MASTICS, CEMENTS, AND TAPES SHALL HAVE THE SAME COMPONENT RATING AS LISTED ABOVE. 3. ACOUSTICAL INSULATION: A. DUCT LINING SHALL BE 1-1/2 LB. AIR DISTRIBUTION EQUIPMENT: A. PROVIDE FLEXIBLE DUCT CONNECTION AT THE INTAKE AND DISCHARGE SIDES OF ALL AIR CONDITIONING UNITS. INSULATED FLEXIBLE DUCT SHALL BE OF ALL -METAL CONSTRUCTION CONSISTING OF BONDED TWO-PLY LAMINATE, MECHANICALLY CORRUGATED FOR STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILITY. CONNECTORS SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 6" IN LENGTH AND A MAXIMUM OF 10" PER LENGTH. 5. INSULATED FLEXIBLE DUCTS: A. PROVIDE INSULATED DUCT FLEXIBLE CONNECTIONS FROM DUCTWORK TO DIFFUSERS, MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS OF UL -181 AND NEPA-90A. THE CONNECTORS SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS 1 AND CLASS 2. B. CONNECTION BETWEEN THE FLEXIBLE DUCT AND THE UNIT SHALL BE SEALED WITH PERMACEL EZ -4719 OR APPROVED EQUAL. A STAINLESS STEEL CLAMP SHALL BE PLACE DOVER THE CONNECTIONS, SIMILAR TO IDEAL TYPE 52 WORM GEAR DRIVE. C. FLEXIBLE DUCT SHALL BE OF ALL -METAL CONSTRUCTION CONSISTING OF BONDED TWO-PLY LAMINATE, MECHANICALLY CORRUGATED FOR STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILITY. IT SHALL ALSO BE OF SEMI-RIGID CONSTRUCTION CAPABLE OF BEING EASILY PRE -FORMED BY HAND INTO REQUIRED OFFSETS OR ELBOWS WITHOUT FORMING SHARP EDGES OR CORNERS. FLEXIBLE DUCTWORK SHALL NOT BE CONFIGURED TO COMPOSE MORE THAN ONE EQUIVALENT 90' BEND IN A MINIMUM OF TWO (2) PLANES. D. AT CONNECTION, USE PERMACEL EZ -4719 POINTS OR MINNESOTA MINING SEALING COMPOUND. PROVIDE A STAINLESS STEEL CLAMP OR SIMILAR TO IDEAL TYPE 52 WORM GEAR DRIVE. 6. VOLUME CONTROL DAMPERS: A. AT EACH NEW MAIN BRANCH TAKE -OFF, PROVIDE VOLUME DAMPERS OF THE OPPOSED BLADE, MULTI -LOUVERED TYPE, OPERATED BY INDICATING QUADRANTS AND SET SCREWS. VOLUME DAMPERS AND ALL MANUAL DAMPERS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SMACNA AND ASHRAE STANDARDS. B. PROVIDE 45' CLINCH COLLARS AT MAIN TAKE -OFFS. 7. ACCESS DOORS: A. PROVIDE SUITABLY SIZED ACCESS DOORS BEFORE AND AFTER IN -DUCT ELECTRIC HEATERS AND FOR FIRE DAMPERS. MINIMUM SIZE OF ACCESS DOORS SHALL BE 12"x12" OR 12"x(FULL DEPTH OF DUCT) IF SMALLER THAN 12". B. ACCESS DOORS IN DUCTWORK HANDLING CONDITIONED AIR SHALL BE OF THE DOUBLE PANEL TYPE WITH INSULATION THICKNESS THE SAME AS DUCT INSULATION THICKNESS, SET IN-BETWEEN 18 GAUGE INTERIOR CASING. SINGLE PANEL ACCESS DOORS SHALL BE FABRICATED OF 18 GAUGE UP TO 12"x12" AND 16 GAUGE WHEN LARGER. C. ACCESS DOORS SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH HEAVY ANGLE IRON FRAMES AND SHALL BE FITTED WITH AN MINIMUM OF TWO (2) HINGES AND CAM FASTENERS. ACCESS DOORS ON THE BOTTOM OF DUCTS SHALL HAVE CAM FASTENERS. 8. HANGERS AND SUPPORTS: A. WHERE HANGER STRAPS ARE USED, THEY SHALL BE 1" x 18 GAUGE MINIMUM, GALVANIZED STEEL. BAND IRONS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. B. DUCTS OVER 60 INCHES WIDE SHALL BE SUSPENDED ON A TRAPEZE TYPE HANGER. THE DUCT SHALL NOT BE SECURED TO THE HANGER. C. PROVIDE INSERTS, FISHPLATES, AND OTHER METHODS RECOMMENDED BY SMACNA, AND AS APPROVED, FOR SUPPORTING HANGER STRAPS AND TRAPEZE HANGERS. D. TRANSITION PIECES FROM RECTANGULAR TO ROUND AT FAN DISCHARGE SHALL BE 16 GAUGE ALL -WELDED CONSTRUCTION. PROVIDE SUITABLE ANGLE REINFORCEMENT. 9. AIR DIFFUSING EQUIPMENT: A. PRODUCTS SHALL BE ANEMOSTAT, TITUS, TUTTLE & BAILEY, OR APPROVED EQUAL. B. DIFFUSER MODEL NUMBERS: SHOWN ON SCHEDULE. DIFFUSER FINISH SHALL MATCH CEILING COLOR UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
