Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: 1. Polyester resin interior paneling. 2. Manufacturer panel installation hardware. B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 06 10 00 "Rough Carpentry" for wood furring for installing polyester resin interior paneling. 1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product. B. Samples: For polyester resin paneling and trim accessories, in manufacturer's standard sizes. C. Submit product test reports from a qualified independent third party testing agency indicating each type and class of panel system complies with the project performance requirements, based on comprehensive testing of current products. Previously completed test reports will be acceptable if from current manufacturer and were tested for products used on this project. D. Submit test reports for the following: 1. Rate of Burning (ASTM D 635). 2. Self-Ignition Temperature (ASTM D 1929). 3. Density of Smoke (ASTM D 2843). 4. Flame Spread and Smoke Development Testing (ASTM E 84). 5. Room Corner Burn Test (NFPA 286). 6. Extent of Burning (UL 94). 7. Impact Strength (ASTM D 3763). 8. Safety Glazing Impact Resistance (ANSI Z97.1-2004). 9. UPITT Test for Combustion Product Toxicity. 10. Dynamic Environmental Testing (ASTM D 5116 and ASTM D 6670). E. Shop Drawings: Include plans, elevations, sections, panel dimensions, details and methods of attachment to other work. Build mockups, if requested in writing by Architect, to verify selections made from sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects. 2. Build mockup of each type of polyester panel fabrication. 3. Approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion. G. Maintenance Data: Submit manufacturer’s care and maintenance data, including care, repair and cleaning instructions. Include information in Project closeout documents. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Testing Agency: Acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. B. Manufacturer’s Qualifications: Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” 1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Deliver polyester resin fabrication systems and specified items in manufacturer’s standard protective packaging. B. Do not deliver polyester resin panel fabrications, system, components or accessories to Project site until installation areas are ready for installation. C. Store materials in dry spaces protected from the weather, with ambient temperatures maintained within range recommended by manufacturer, but not less than 50 deg F or more than 90 deg F. Store materials on flat surfaces. D. Handle materials to prevent damage to finished surfaces. Provide protective coverings to prevent damage or staining. 1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install polyester resin paneling until spaces are enclosed and weathertight and temporary HVAC system is operating and maintaining ambient temperature and humidity conditions at occupancy levels during the remainder of the construction period. B. Maintain ambient temperatures within range recommended by manufacturer, but not less than 70 deg F or more than 95 deg F, in spaces to receive materials during the following time periods: 1. 48 hours before installation. 2. During installation. 3. 48 hours after installation. C. After installation and until Substantial Completion, maintain ambient temperatures within range recommended by manufacturer, but not less than 55 deg F or more than 95 deg F. Close spaces to traffic for 48 hours after floor tile installation. F. Install floor tile after other finishing operations, including painting, have been completed. 1.7 WARRANTY A. Manufacturer’s Special Warranty: Manufacturer’s standard form agreeing to repair or replace units that fail in material or workmanship within the specified warranty period. B. Warranty Period: 2 years after the date of substantial completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Source Limitations: Obtain polyester resin paneling and trim accessories from single manufacturer. 2.2 POLYESTER RESIN PANELING MATERIALS A. Polyester Resin Paneling: Polyester resin panels complying with ASTM D 5319. 1. Manufacturer: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the following: a. 3form, Inc., Salt Lake City, UT, Tel.: 801.649.2500. b. Product: Varia TM produced from ecoresinTM sheet. 2. Wall materials shall comply with the requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers." 3. Surface-Burning Characteristics: As follows when tested by a qualified testing agency according to ASTM E 84. Identify products with appropriate markings of applicable testing agency. a. Flame-Spread Index: 25 or less. b. Smoke-Developed Index: 250 or less. 4. Nominal Sheet Thickness: Not less than 0.06 inch. 5. Nominal Panel Thickness: Not less than 0.12 inch. 6. Surface Finish: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. Refer also to Finish Legend on Drawings. 7. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. Refer also to Finish Legend on Drawings. B. Interlayer Materials: Compatible with polyesters and bonding process to create a monolithic sheet of material when complete. Trim Accessories: Manufacturer's standard extrusions designed to retain and cover edges of panels. Provide division bars, inside corners, and caps as needed to conceal edges. 1. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. B. Exposed Fasteners: As recommended by panel manufacturer. C. Concealed Fasteners: As recommended by panel manufacturer. D. Adhesive: As recommended by plastic paneling manufacturer. 1. Adhesives shall have a VOC content of 50 g/L or less. 2. Adhesive shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers." 2.4 FABRICATION A. General: Fabricate polyester resin panels to designs, sizes and thicknesses indicated and to comply with indicated standard. Sizes, profiles and other characteristics are indicated on the Drawings. B. Comply with manufacturer’s written recommendations for fabrication. C. Machining: Acceptable means of machining are listed below. Ensure that material is not chipped or warped by machining operations: 1. Sawing: Select equipment and blades suitable for type of cut required. 2. Drilling: Drills specifically designed for use with plastic products. 3. Milling: Climb cut where possible. 4. Routing. 5. Tapping. D. Forming: Form products to shapes indicated using the appropriate method listed below. Comply with manufacturer’s written instructions. 1. Cold Bending. 2. Hot Bending. 3. Thermoforming: Acceptable only on uncoated material. 4. Drape Forming. 5. Matched Mold Forming. 6. Mechanical Forming. E. Laminating: Laminate to substrates indicated using adhesives and techniques recommended by manufacturer. 2.5 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS A. General: Provide products of material, size and shape required for application indicated and with a proven record of compatibility with surfaces contacted in installation. THE KENT 06 64 10 - THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 POLYESTER RESIN INTERIOR PANELING THE KENT B. Cleaner: Type recommended by manufacturer. C. Fasteners: Use screws designed specifically for plastics. Self-threading screws are acceptable for permanent installations. Provide threaded metal inserts for applications requiring frequent disassembly. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Remove wallpaper, vinyl wall covering, loose or soluble paint, and other materials that might interfere with attachment. B. Prepare substrate by sanding high spots and filling low spots as needed to provide flat, even surface for panel installation. C. Clean substrates of substances that could damage panels or attachment hardware, including oil, grease, dirt, and dust. D. Condition panels by unpacking and placing in installation space before installation according to manufacturer's written recommendations. E. Lay out paneling before installing. Locate panel joints where indicated. 1. Mark plumb lines on substrate at trim accessory and panel joint locations for accurate installation. 2. Locate trim accessories and panel joints to allow clearance at panel edges according to manufacturer's written instructions. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Install polyester resin paneling according to manufacturer's written instructions. B. Manufacturer to fabricate items to the greatest extent possible. C. Install panels with fasteners. Layout fastener locations and mark on face of panels so that fasteners are accurately aligned. 1. Drill oversized fastener holes in panels as directed by panel manufacturer and center fasteners in holes. Utilize fasteners, adhesives and bonding agents recommended by manufacturer for type of installation indicated. Material that is chipped, warped, hazed or discolored because of installation or fabrication methods will be rejected. D. Install panels as directed by panel manufacturer. E. Install trim accessories as directed by panel manufacturer. F. Maintain uniform space between panels and wall fixtures. Fill space with sealant. G. Install components plumb, level and rigid, scribed to adjacent finishes, in accordance with approved shop drawings and product data. H. Form field joints using manufacturer’s recommended procedures. Locate seams in panels so that they are not directly in line with seams in substrates. 3.4 CLEANING AND PROTECTION A. Protect surfaces from damage until date of substantial completion. Repair work or replace damaged work that cannot be repaired to Architect’s satisfaction. END OF SECTION 06 64 10
