Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section includes composite decking. B. Related Requirements: 1. Division 05 Section "Metal Balcony with Decorative Metal Railing" for related work. 1.3 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS A. Pre-installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site. 1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product. 1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, finishes and performance data for composite decking. B. Shop Drawings: 1. Include plans, elevations, sections and details. C. Samples: For each product specified; one sample representing actual product color, size and finish. 1.5 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS A. Qualification Data: For Installer and manufacturer. B. Product Certificates: For each type of composite deck planking specified. C. Product Test Reports: For each product specified, for tests performed by manufacturer and witnessed by a qualified testing agency. D. Evaluation Reports: For each product specified, from ICC-ES. E. Sample Warranty: For manufacturer's warranty. 1.6 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS A. Maintenance Data: For composite decking to include in maintenance manuals. 1.7 MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS A. Furnish extra materials, from the same product run, that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents. 1. Composite Decking: Full-size specified composite decking planks making up an amount equal to 2 percent of quantity installed for each size indicated. 1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” B. Installer Qualifications: Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” C. Mockups: Build mockups, if requested in writing by Architect, to demonstrate aesthetic effects and to set quality standards for materials and execution, fabrication and installation. 1. Build mockup of typical metal balcony with metal railing and composite deck planks as shown on Drawings. 2. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the Contract Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically approves such deviations in writing. 3. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion. 1.9 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Store products in manufacturer’s marked unopened packaging until ready for installation. B. Stack products on a flat, dry surface protected from weather. C. Support product bundles at 8-inches from each end and no greater than 2-feet apart in between. Do not stack decking more than 14 bundles high. 1.10 FIELD CONDITIONS THE KENT 06 73 00 - THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 COMPOSITE DECKING THE KENT A. Install decking within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer’s recommended limits. 1.11 WARRANTY A. Manufacturer's Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace composite decking that fail(s) in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Period: 10 year(s) from date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the following: 1. Trex Company, Inc., 160 Exeter Drive, Winchester VA 22603. 2. Product: Trex Select Decking Boards. 2.2 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A. Composite decking made by combining linear low density polyethylene with recycled wood and extruded into 0.875-inch by 5.5-inch boards,12,16 or 20 feet in length. Color of product to be one of manufacturer’s standard colors. 2.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Surface-Burning Characteristics: Comply with ASTM E 84; testing by a qualified testing agency. Identify products with appropriate markings of applicable testing agency. 1. Flame-Spread Index: 85 or less. B. Color: As selected by Architect from full range of industry colors. C. Fasteners General: Provide fasteners of size and type indicated, acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction and that comply with requirements specified in this article for material and manufacture. 1. Use stainless-steel fasteners. 2. Concealed Decking Fasteners: Use if recommended in writing by decking manufacturer. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Prepare written report, endorsed by Installer, listing conditions detrimental to performance. C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Clean substrates of projections and substances detrimental to application. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Set work to required levels and lines, with members plumb, true to line, cut, and fitted. Fit work to other construction; scribe and cope as needed for accurate fit. B. Install plastic lumber to comply with manufacturer's written instructions. C. Install metal framing anchors to comply with manufacturer's written instructions. D. Provide blocking and framing as indicated and as required to support facing materials, fixtures, specialty items, and trim. E. Securely attach exterior rough carpentry work to substrate by anchoring and fastening as indicated, complying with the following: 1. "Fastening Schedule" in ICC's International Building Code. F. For exposed work, arrange fasteners in straight rows parallel with edges of members, with fasteners evenly spaced and with adjacent rows staggered.
