Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and other Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. This Section includes penetrating water-repellent coatings for the following vertical and horizontal surfaces: 1. Concrete (unpainted, interior face). a. Vertical surfaces: 1) Elevator pit walls. b. Horizontal surfaces: 1) Elevator pit floor. 2) Concrete floors at common utility areas. 3) Concrete floors at fire sprinkler standpipe and compressor areas. 4) Concrete floors at water distribution spaces. 5) Concrete floor of bicycle storage room. 1.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Performance Testing: Provide water repellents that comply with test-performance requirements indicated, as evidenced by reports of tests performed by a qualified independent testing agency on manufacturer's standard products applied to substrates simulating those on Project using same application methods to be used for Project. B. Water-Vapor Transmission: Maximum 15 percent reduction in rate of vapor transmission in comparison of treated and untreated specimens, per ASTM E 96, or: 1. Permeability: Minimum 80 percent water-vapor transmission in comparison of treated and untreated specimens, per ASTM D 1653. C. Chloride-Ion Intrusion in Concrete: NCHRP Report 244, Series II tests. 1. Reduction in Chloride Content: 80 percent 2. AASHTO T-259 15 times reduction. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: An employer of workers trained and approved by manufacturer. B. Testing Agency Qualifications: An independent agency qualified according to ASTM E 548 for testing indicated. THE KENT 07 19 00 - THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 WATER REPELLENT THE KENT 1.5 WARRANTY A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agree(s) to replace materials that fail to maintain water repellency specified in Part 1 "Performance Requirements" Article within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Period: Five years – horizontal surfaces, and ten years- vertical surfaces from date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide the following product listed in other Part 2 articles. 2.2 PENETRATING WATER REPELLENTS A. Silicone-Sealer, Penetrating Water Repellent: Clear, polymerized, silicone-rubber water repellent for dense substrates; with a solvent- or water-based solution containing not less than 3 and up to 5 percent solids by weight. Must be VOC compliant. 1. Products: a. Professional Products of Kansas; Water Sealant Regular Strength and Extra Strength. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 APPLICATION A. Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to inspect the substrate before application of water repellent and to instruct Applicator on the product and application method to be used. B. Apply a heavy-saturation spray coating of water repellent on surfaces indicated for treatment using low-pressure spray equipment. Comply with manufacturer's written instructions for using airless spraying procedure, unless otherwise indicated. C. Painting: Apply Concrete Zone Marking Paint after application of water repellent. Follow water repellent manufacturer’s written recommendations regarding surface preparation for application. 3.2 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Inspection: Inspect the water repellent work with the Contractor, Architect, applicator, and manufacturer representative, and compare with test area results approved by the Architect. Determine if the substrates are suitably protected by the water repellents. END OF SECTION 07 19 00
