Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section includes fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) flush doors with FRP frames. B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 08 71 00 Door Hardware. 1.3 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS A. Pre-installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site. 1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product. 1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for composite doors and frames. B. Shop Drawings: 1. Include plans, elevations, sections, and details, indicating dimensions, tolerances, materials, fabrication, doors, framing and finish. C. Samples: For each exposed product and for each color and texture specified,6 inches by 6 inches in size. 1.5 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS A. Qualification Data: For Installer and manufacturer. 1. Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” B. Product Test Reports: For each composite door and frame type, for tests performed by manufacturer and witnessed by a qualified testing agency. C. Sample Warranty: Submit manufacturer's standard warranty. 1.6 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS THE KENT 08 16 70- THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 COMPOSITE DOORS AND FRAMES THE KENT A. Operation and Maintenance Data: For composite doors and frames to include in operation and maintenance manuals. 1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” B. Installer Qualifications: Refer to Specification Section 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” C. Testing Agency Qualifications: Qualified according to ASTM C 1093 for testing indicated. D. Testing Agency Qualifications: Member company of NETA or an NRTL. E. Mockups: Build mockups, if requested in writing by the Architect [to verify selections made under Sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects. 1. Build mockup of typical composite doors and frames as shown on Drawings. 2. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the Contract Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically approves such deviations in writing. 3. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion. 1.8 PRECONSTRUCTION TESTING A. Preconstruction Testing Service: Owner will engage a qualified testing agency to perform preconstruction testing. B. Preconstruction Testing: Performed by a qualified testing agency on manufacturer's standard assemblies. 1.9 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Comply with manufacturer’s ordering instructions and lead time requirements to avoid construction delays. B. Deliver materials to Project in manufacturer’s original unopened, undamaged containers with identification labels intact. C. Storage and Protection: Store materials and accessories protected from exposure to harmful environmental conditions and at temperatures and humidity conditions recommended by manufacturer, off ground, under cover and not exposed to weather and construction activities. 1.10 FIELD CONDITIONS A. Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install doors until spaces are enclosed and weathertight, wet work in spaces is complete and dry, and HVAC system is operating and maintaining ambient temperature and humidity conditions at occupancy levels during remainder of construction period. Manufacturer's Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace doors, frames and hardware of composite doors and frames that fail(s) in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion. 2. Warranty Period: Limited lifetime (while the door is in its specified application in its original installation) warranty covering: Failure due to corrosion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Special – Lite, Inc., PO Box 6, Decatur, MI 49045. Ph.: 800.821.6531. a. Product: AF-100 Pultruded FRP Door and frame. 2. Corrim Company, 1870 Stillman Drive, Oshkosh, WI 54901-1010. Ph.: 920.231.2000. a. Product: FRP Door and frame. 2.2 ASSEMBLY DESCRIPTION A. Fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) flush doors with FRP frames. 2.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. General: Provide door assemblies that have been designed and fabricated to comply with specified performance requirements, as demonstrated by testing manufacturer's corresponding standard systems. B. Thermal Performance: Per ASTM C 1363-97, R-value 7.42. C. Air Infiltration: For a single door 3’-0” x 7’-0”, test specimen shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E 283 at pressure differential of 6.24 psf. Door shall not exceed 0.09 cfm/ft2 . D. Water Penetration: For a single door 3’-0” x 7’-0”, test specimen shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E 331. Door shall not have water leakage. E. Uniform Load Structural: For a single door 3’-0” x 7’-0”, test specimen shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E 330: Plus or minus 270 psf. F. Forced Entry Resistance, per AAMA 1304, Pass with No Entry. G. Large Missile Impact, Doors and Frames, ASTM E 1996, Pass. Cycle Test, AAMA 920-11, 2,000,000 Cycles. 2.4 MATERIALS A. Face Sheet: 1. Material: Pultruded FRP, 0.125-inch thickness. 2. Texture: Smooth. 3. Fiberglass Content: Minimum 47% by weight. 4. Color: To be selected by Architect from manufacturer’s standard color selection. B. Core: 1. Material: Polyurethane foam. 2. Density: Min. 6 lbs /cu.ft. 3. Per ASTM E 84 flame spread and smoke developed: Class B. 2.5 ACCESSORIES A. Fasteners: Aluminum, stainless-steel or other non-corrosive metal. 2.6 CONSTRUCTION A. Door Thickness: 1-3/4 inches. B. Construction: Doors shall be FRP, pultruded as one monolithic panel with integral stiles. C. Reinforcement: Solid FRP shapes to be chemically welded at factory. All structural members shall utilize a chemically resistant UV stabilized resin system. D. Stile Edge: Seamless 9/16-inch thick solid FRP. E. Top Rail: 6-inch pultruded tube profile designed to fit flush and be chemically welded inside the door. F. Bottom Rail: Pultruded FRP inverted U channel designed to fit flush and be chemically welded inside the door, allowing doors to be field trimmed. Closed bottom rail to be supplied as option. THE KENT 08 16 70- THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 COMPOSITE DOORS AND FRAMES THE KENT 2.7 DOOR FRAME SYSTEM A. Framing: 1. Size and Type: As indicated on Drawings. 2. Materials: ¼-inch thick solid pultruded FRP profiles having no corrosive components or reinforcement. 3. Width: 2-inch face. 4. Depth: Verify with wall thickness. See details on Drawings. 5. Assembly: Verify with Architect. Either knock down or one piece welded in factory. 6. Reinforcing: ¼-inch pultruded FRP chemically welded at all hinge, strike and closer locations. 7. Anchors: Furnished with type as shown and specified on Drawings. 8. Fasteners for Reinforcing: 18-8 stainless-steel. 2.8 HARDWARE A. Hardware Schedule: 1. Refer to “Hardware Schedule” Specification Section 08 71 00. 2.9 FINISH A. Finish for Doors and Frames: 1. Primer only. 2. Refer to Specification Section 09 91 00 “Painting” for additional information. 2.10 FABRICATION A. Shop Assembly to greatest extent possible. B. Sizes and Profiles: Required sizes for door and frame units and profiles requirements shall be as indicated on the Drawings. C. Coordination of Fabrication: Field measure before fabrication and show recorded measurements on shop drawings. D. Assembly and Fit: 1. Complete cutting, fitting, forming, drilling and chemically welding of FRP before assembly. 2. Maintain continuity of line and accurate relation of planes and angles. 3. Secure attachments and support at mechanical joints with hairline fit at contacting members. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine areas to receive doors with Installer present for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. THE KENT 08 16 70- THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 COMPOSITE DOORS AND FRAMES THE KENT B. Prepare written report, endorsed by Installer, listing conditions detrimental to performance. C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Ensure openings to receive frames are plumb, level, square and in tolerance. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Install doors in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions. B. Install doors plumb, level, square, true to line and without warp or rack. C. Anchor frames securely in place. D. Set thresholds in bed of mastic and backseal. E. Install exterior doors to be weathertight in closed position. F. Repair minor damages to finish in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions and as approved by Architect. G. Remove and replace damaged components that cannot be successfully repaired as determined by Architect. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to test and inspect components, assemblies, and equipment installations, including connections. B. Prepare test and inspection reports. 3.5 ADJUSTING A. Adjust hardware and moving parts to function smoothly, and lubricate as recommended by manufacturer. 3.6 CLEANING AND PROTECTION A. Clean doors promptly after installation in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions using a mild detergent and water. B. Protect installed doors to ensure that, except for normal weathering, doors will be without damage or deterioration at time of substantial completion.
