Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section includes static dissipative resilient tile flooring materials, accessories and installation. B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 03 30 00 “Poured-in-Place Concrete for flooring system and flooring topping. 2. Section 09 65 19 “Resilient Tile Flooring” for additional information about tile flooring materials and installation. 1.3 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS A. Pre-installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site. 1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: For each type of product. 1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for static-dissipative resilient tile flooring. B. Shop Drawings: 1. Include plans, sections, and details, including grounding details. C. Samples: For each exposed product and for each color and texture specified. D. Samples for Initial Selection: For each type of unit and each type of material. E. Samples for Verification: For the following products, in manufacturer's standard sizes: 1. Grounding mat. 2. Standard size tile. 3. Base. 4. Accessories. F. Product Schedule: Refer to Finish Legend on Drawings. THE KENT 09 65 36- THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 STATIC-DISSIPATIVE RESILIENT TILE FLOORING THE KENT 1.5 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS A. Qualification Data: For Installer and Manufacturer. B. Material and Product Certificates: For each type of material or product. C. Material Test Reports: For each material, by a qualified testing agency. D. Product Test Reports: For each product, for tests performed by manufacturer and witnessed by a qualified testing agency. 1.6 MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS A. Furnish extra materials, from the same product run, that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents. 1. Static Dissipative Tile: Full-size units equal to five percent of quantity installed for each size indicated, but no fewer than four units. 2. Tile Base: Full-size units equal to five percent of quantity installed for each size indicated, but no fewer than four linear feet. 1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Single source responsibility for all materials. 1. Refer also to Specification 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” B. Installer Qualifications: Refer to Specification 01 40 00 “Quality Requirements.” C. Mockups: Build mockups, if requested in writing by Architect, to verify selections made under Sample submittals, to demonstrate aesthetic effects, to set quality standards for materials and execution to set quality standards for fabrication and installation. 1. Build mockup as directed by Architect. 2. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the Contract Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically approves such deviations in writing. 3. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion. 1.8 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Comply with manufacturer’s ordering instructions and lead time requirements to avoid construction delays. B. Deliver materials in good condition to the jobsite in the manufacturer’s original unopened containers that bear the name and brand of the manufacturer, project identification and shipping and handling instructions. Store materials in a clean, dry, enclosed space off the ground, protected from harmful weather conditions and at temperature and humidity conditions recommended by the manufacturer. Protect adhesives from freezing. Store flooring, adhesives and accessories in the spaces where they will be installed for at least 48 hours prior to beginning installation. 1.9 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Temperature: Maintain a minimum temperature in the spaces to receive the flooring and accessories of 65 deg. F and a maximum temperature of 85 deg. F for at least 48 hours before, during and for not less than 48 hours after installation. 1. During the service life of the floor, the temperature should never rise above 100 deg. F nor fall below 55 deg. F. The performance of the flooring material and adhesives can be adversely affected outside of this temperature range. 2. Protect all materials from the direct flow of heat from hot-air registers, radiators or other heating fixtures and appliances. 3. Refer to manufacturer’s guaranteed installations systems manual for a complete guide on project conditions. 1.10 WARRANTY A. Manufacturer's Warranty: 1. Refer to specific manufacturer’s warranty information for length and extent of warranty coverage. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide one of the following: 1. Static Dissipative Excelon SDT; Armstrong World Industries, Inc.; refer to Finish Legend on Drawings for additional information. 2. Static Control Flooring - Statmate; VPI Corporation.; refer to Finish Legend on Drawings for additional information. 3. AmeriWorx ESD Series; StaticWorx; refer to Finish legend on Drawings for additional information. B. Tile Standard: ASTM F 1066, Class 2, through-pattern tile (Armstrong); ASTM 1700 (VPI). C. Wearing Surface: Smooth. D. Thickness: 0.125 inch. E. Size: 12 by 12 inches. F. Colors and Patterns: Refer to Finish Legend on Drawings. Trowelable Leveling and Patching Compounds: Latex-modified, portland cement based or blended hydraulic-cement-based formulation provided or approved by floor tile manufacturer for applications indicated. B. Adhesives: Use type recommended by floor tile and adhesive manufacturers to suit floor tile and substrate conditions indicated. C. Floor Polish: Provide protective, liquid floor-polish products recommended by floor tile manufacturer. D. Sealer: For sealing joints between top of wall base or integral cove cap and irregular wall surfaces, provide plastic filler recommended by tile manufacturer, applied according to manufacturer’s recommendations. E. Transition: Provide transition/reducing strips tapered to meet abutting materials. F. Threshold: Provide threshold of thickness and width as shown on the Drawings. G. Resilient Edge Strips: Provide resilient edge strips of width shown on the Drawings, of equal gauge to the flooring, homogeneous vinyl or rubber composition, tapered or bullnose edge, with color to match or contrast with flooring, or as selected by Architect from standard colors available. H. Metal Edge Strips: Provide metal edge strips of width shown on the Drawings and of required thickness to protect exposed edges of the flooring. Provide units of maximum, available length to minimize the number of joints. Use butt type metal edge strips for concealed anchorage, or overlap-type metal edge strips for exposed anchorage. Unless otherwise shown, provide strips made of aluminum with a mill finish. 2.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes. Temperature Change: 120 deg F, ambient; 180 deg F material surfaces. B. Fire Performance: Comply with ASTM E 119; testing by a qualified testing agency. Identify products with appropriate markings of applicable testing agency. 1. Indicate design designations from UL's "Fire Resistance Directory" or from the listings of another qualified testing agency. 2. Combustion Characteristics: ASTM E 136. a. ASTM E 648 Critical Radiant Flux of 0.45 watts per sq. cm. or greater: Class 1. b. ASTM E 662(Smoke Generation): Maximum Specific Optical Density of 450 or less. Electrical: Provide flooring material to meet the following electrical properties when installed according to manufacturer’s instructions with required adhesive, copper strips and floor finish. 1. ANSI/ESD S7.1 Floor Materials – Resistive Characterization of Materials results between 10-6 and 10-9 ohms, point-to-point-to-ground. 2. ASTM F 150 Electrical Resistance of Flooring between 10-6 and 10-9 ohms, point-to- point and point-to-ground. 3. ANSI/ESD STM 97.1: Floor Materials and Footwear-Resistance in Combination with a Person results between 10-6 and 10-9 ohms. 4. ANSI/ESD STM 97.2: Floor Materials and Footwear Voltage Measurement in Combination with a Person-less than 10 volts with dissipative footwear at 20% relative humidity. 5. Static Dissipation @ 12% RH: Flooring in combination with a person wearing dissipative footwear – 1000 to 100 volts: 0.2 seconds average. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrate conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for maximum moisture content, installation tolerances and and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Examine products or materials before installation. Reject products or materials that are wet, moisture damaged, or mold damaged. C. Examine floors, roofs, for suitable conditions where products will be installed. D. Prepare written report, endorsed by Installer, listing conditions detrimental to performance. E. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Subfloor Preparation: Smooth concrete surfaces, removing rough areas, projections, ridges and bumps. Fill low spots, control and construction joints and other defects with underlayment as recommended by the flooring manufacturer. B. Subfloor Cleaning: Remove paint, varnish, oils, release agents, sealers and waxes. Remove residual adhesives as recommended by the flooring manufacturer. Remove curing and hardening compounds not compatible with adhesives used, as indicated by a bond test or by the compound manufacturer’s recommendations for flooring. Avoid organic solvents. C. Moisture Test: Perform subfloor moisture testing in accordance with ASTM F 2170 or ASTM F 1869. On installations where both the Percent Relative Humidity and the Moisture Vapor Emission Rate tests are conducted, results of both test shall comply with the allowable limits THE KENT 09 65 36- THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 STATIC-DISSIPATIVE RESILIENT TILE FLOORING THE KENT listed. Do not proceed with flooring installation until results of moisture tests are acceptable. All test results shall be documented and retained. D. Concrete pH Test: Perform pH tests on concrete floors regardless of their age or grade level. All test results shall be documented and retained. E. Surface Cleaning: Vacuum or broom-clean surfaces to be covered immediately before the application of flooring. Make subfloor free from dust dirt, grease and all foreign matter. 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Install flooring in strict accordance with manufacturer’s latest installation instructions. 1. Scribe, cut and fit to permanent fixtures, columns, walls, partitions, pipes, outlets and built- in furniture and cabinets. 2. Install flooring with adhesives, tools and procedures in strict accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions B. Wall to Wall Installation: Install flooring wall to wall before the installation of floor-set cabinets, casework, furniture, equipment, etc. Extend flooring into toe spaces, door recesses, closets and similar openings as shown on Drawings. C. Pan-type Installation: If required, install flooring on pan-type floor access covers. Maintain continuity of color and pattern within pieces of flooring installed on those covers. Adhere flooring to the subfloor around covers and to covers. D. Accessory Installation: 1. Top Set: Apply top set wall base to walls, columns, casework and other permanent fixtures in areas where top set base is required. Install base in lengths as long as practical with inside corners fabricated from base materials that are mitered or coped. Tightly bond base to vertical substrate with continuous contact at horizontal and vertical surfaces. 2. Voids: Fill voids with filler recommended by flooring manufacturer along top edge of base on irregular surfaces of substrate. 3. Resilient Edge Strips: Place resilient edge strips tightly butted to flooring and secure with adhesive recommended by flooring manufacturer. Install edge strips at edges of flooring that would otherwise be exposed. 4. Metal Edge Strips: Apply metal edge strips where shown on Drawings before flooring installation. Secure units to substrate. 3.4 ERECTION TOLERANCES A. Follow manufacturer’s written recommendations regarding installation tolerances. 3.5 MAITENANCE AND PROTECTION A. Maintenance: Perform initial and ongoing maintenance according to manufacturer’s written instructions. Protection: Protect installed flooring as recommended by the flooring manufacturer against damage from rolling loads, other trades or the placement of fixtures and furnishings. END OF SECTION 09 65 36
