Drawings, general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions, and Division-1 Specification Sections and Division 20 Specification Sections, apply to work of this Section. 1.02 WORK DESCRIPTION: A. Scope of Work: 1. Furnish pumping products and accessories for building potable water systems of configuration or type as shown and/or scheduled on the drawings. 2. The Contractor shall furnish all the labor, materials, equipment, services, and drayage, and perform all the operations in connection with the installation of the products specified herein. 3. Electrical service to units shall be provided as specified under Division 26 sections. B. Types of pumps specified in this section include the following: 1. In-line bronze circulators 2. Variable speed booster pump systems 3. Hydro-pneumatic expansion tanks 1.03 SUBMITTALS: A. Submit descriptive product literature and shop drawings in accordance with Division 1. 1. Submittals and shop drawings shall include the following data: a. Manufacturer’s technical data including certified performance curves and rated capacity. Operating points shall be indicated on the performance curves. b. Wiring schematics including ladder type diagrams which differentiate between factory installed and field installed portions. c. Dimensional data including weights and required clearances. d. Accessories furnished. e. Manufacturer’s installation requirements. B. Submit maintenance manuals in accordance with Division 1 1. Maintenance manuals shall include the following: a. Parts lists for each type and size of pump or system b. Published installation instructions. c. Troubleshooting maintenance guide for each type of pump or system. 1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE: A. Reference Standards: THE KENT 22 11 23 - 2 THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 PLUMBING PUMPS THE KENT 1. UL Standard 778: “Motor Operated Water Pumps”. All plumbing pumps shall be listed and labeled by UL or another nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL) to UL Standard 778. 2. Hydraulic Institute: “Centrifugal Pumps - Instructions for Installation, Operation, and Maintenance.” 3. ASME Section VIII: Fabricate and stamp expansion tanks to comply with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 1. 4. IAC 8-10-3 Title 327 Indiana Department of Environmental Management; effective July 19, 1985. Each pump shall be provided with controls to prevent the operation of pressure booster pumps when the pump suction pressure drops below 20 psig. B. Provide electric motors and components which are NEMA listed and labeled. C. Testing: 1. All plumbing pumps shall be factory assembled, wired, and tested, prior to shipment. 2. Domestic booster pump systems shall be tested at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of full load capacity at scheduled suction and discharge pressure conditions. 1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING: A. All pumps shall be stored in a dry location. 1. For extended storage times (greater than 1 week), dry internal parts with hot air or a vacuum producing device. After drying, coat internal parts with light oil, kerosene, or antifreeze. Dismantle bearings and couplings, dry and coat with an acid-free, heavy oil, and tag and store. B. Retain shipping flange protective covers and protective coatings during storage. C. Protect bearings and couplings against damage from sand, grit, and other foreign matter. D. Comply with manufacturer’s rigging instructions for handling. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 GENERAL: A. Provide factory assembled and tested, single stage, centrifugal pumps which comply with UL 778. Each pump shall have all bronze lead-free construction, suitable for potable water service, and components in contact with water shall be made of corrosion resistant materials. B. Each pump shall have sufficient capacity to circulate the scheduled GPM against the scheduled dynamic head (feet) with the horsepower and speed as scheduled and/or as denoted on the drawings. Pump characteristics shall be such that the head of the pump, under varying conditions, shall not exceed the rated horsepower of the drive motor. D. Motors shall be of electrical characteristics as scheduled, denoted, and/or as indicated and shall include built-in thermal overload protection appropriate for motor size and duty. E. Each pump shall have flanged connections and shall be provided with matching threaded companion flanges. Pumps shall be shipped with protective flange covers. 2.02 IN-LINE LEAD-FREE BRONZE CIRCULATORS: A. In-line bronze wet rotor circulators shall be of horizontal, in-line, design with a radially split, lead-free all bronze casing or stainless steel and shall be rated for 150 psig minimum working pressure at a minimum continuous water temperature of 225°F. Impellers shall be one-piece lead-free bronze, stainless steel or Noryl dynamically balanced, with ceramic or stainless steel shaft and spring coupling. Bearings shall be oil lubricated; bronze sleeve type and mechanical seals shall be a two-piece carbon/ceramic assembly or double sintered carbon. Motor shall be open, drip-proof, resilient mounted, with oil lubricated sleeve bearings for quiet operation. B. Acceptable manufacturers: 1. Amtrol, Inc. 2. Armstrong Pumps, Inc. 3. Grundfos Pumps Corp. 4. ITT Bell & Gossett 5. Pentair Aurora Pumps 6. Taco, Inc 2.03 VARIABLE SPEED LEAD-FREE BOOSTER PUMP PACKAGES: A. Duplex variable speed pump package consisting of lead-free pumps, piping, valves, disconnect, pressure sensor and unit mounted VFD controls for constant pressure operation. Pumps shall be a horizontal or vertical multi-stage centrifugal pump coupled to standard motor, maximum continuous water temperature of 250°F. Each pump shall have the capacity to provide a minimum of the system demand. All metal parts in contact with the pump liquid shall be of stainless steel. 1. Provide piping to bypass the pumping system for maintenance and service. 2. Provide a flexible connection between the suction and discharge header of each booster pump package and the building piping. B. Variable speed pump controller should be pump mounted combination variable frequency motor drive (VFD) and programmable logic controller, LCD display for pump on, system pressure, fault codes and system conditions. Grundfos Pumps Corp. 4. ITT Bell & Gossett 5. ITT Goulds Pumps 6. Patterson Pump Company 7. Syncroflo 8. Tigerflow 9. QuantumFlo 10. VC Systems & Controls 2.04 HYDRO-PNUEMATIC TANKS: A. Provide tank(s) with acceptance capacities as indicated on the drawings, steel shell with lifting lug and base collar for floor mounting, designed, constructed, and stamped per ASME Section, VIII, 125 psig working pressure, replaceable heavy-duty butyl rubber diaphragm, ASME pressure relief valve, charging valve, low water cutout switch. 2.05 ACCESSORIES: A. Provide a clock timer to allow cycling of each domestic water circulator. Timers shall be adjustable in 15-minute increments over a 24-hour period. B. Provide a temperature aquastat to allow cycling of each domestic water circulator. Aquastats shall snap directly onto the hot water return pipe where indicated and shall cycle to maintain a 10°F temperature difference between 110°F and 120°F or as indicated on drawings. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION: A. Comply with the manufacturer’s instructions for installation. B. Install pumps at locations indicated on the drawings, providing access for periodic maintenance, including removal of motors, impellers, couplings, and accessories. C. Suspend in-line pumps with all-thread hanger rod and vibration isolation hangers of sufficient size to support the weight of the pump independent from the piping. D. Install floor mounted booster pump packages on 4” concrete housekeeping pads. Field verify that pads are flat and level. On units which do not internally isolate pumps, contractor shall provide neoprene pads equal to Mason Industries Super “W” pads. E. Provide a flexible connection between the suction and discharge header of each booster pump package and the building system piping. All piping shall be brought to the pump connections in such a manner so as to prevent the possibility of any loads or stresses being applied to the pump connections or piping. B. Each pump used for domestic hot water return shall be installed with a shut-off valve and strainer installed in the suction side of the pump and a check valve, a balancing valve, and a shut-off valve in the discharge. Valves shall be the same size as the piping connecting the pump. 3.03 TRAINING: A. Manufacturer's representative shall instruct the Owner’s maintenance personnel in the operation and proper care of the domestic booster equipment and a report shall be submitted to the Architect/Engineer.
