Drawings, general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions, and Division-1 Specification Sections and Division 20 Specification Sections, apply to work of this Section. 1.02 SUBMITTALS: A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical product data and installation instructions for vertical split system air handlers. B. Shop Drawings: Submit layout drawings of vertical split system air handlers showing layout of components. In addition, show details of installation and associated supporting structures. C. Wiring Diagrams: Submit wiring diagrams for vertical split system air handlers showing connection to electrical power feeders and low voltage control wiring. Differentiate between portions of wiring that are manufacturer-installed and portions to be field-installed. D. Maintenance Data: Submit maintenance data and parts list for each vertical split system air handler, control, and accessory; including "trouble-shooting" maintenance guide. Include this data, product data, shop drawings, and wiring diagrams in maintenance manual; in accordance with requirements of Division 1. 1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE: A. Manufacturer's Qualifications: Firms regularly engaged in manufacture of units of types, sizes and ratings required, whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service for not less than 5 years. B. Codes and Standards: 1. Electrical, Code Compliance: Comply with applicable local electrical code requirements of the authority having jurisdiction and NEC pertaining to construction and installation of air handling units. 2. UL Compliance: Comply with applicable requirements of UL 1096, pertaining to remote control panels for heating equipment, and UL 486A, "Wire Connectors and Soldering Lugs for Use with Copper Conductors." Provide units and components which are UL-listed and labeled. C. Air handling unit and refrigerant coil will be supplied from the same manufacturer as the condensing unit. THE KENT 23 81 26 - 2 THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 VERTICAL SPLIT SYSTEM AIR HANDLING UNITS THE KENT PART 2 - PRODUCTS: 2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS: A. Manufacturers: Air handling unit manufacturer is to be the same as the manufacturer of the condensing unit. Subject to compliance with requirements, provide units of one of the following: 1. Bryant Air Conditioning 2. Lennox Industries, Inc. 3. Trane 4. Goodman 5. Carrier 6. Guardian/York 2.02 GENERAL: A. Provide indoor-mounted, draw-thru, packaged air handling unit(s). Unit(s) shall be factory assembled including direct-expansion evaporator coil, expansion valve(s), check valves, condensate drain pan, centrifugal fan assembly with fan motor(s) and mounting bracket sheaves, drives and belts, filters, and electrical controls. Units shall be suitable for either horizontal or vertical airflow configuration and be used with or without ductwork. 2.03 CASING: A. Unit casing shall be constructed of zinc coated, heavy gauge, galvanized steel. Exterior surfaces shall be cleaned, phosphatized and finished with a baked enamel finish. B. Unit casing shall be completely insulated with fire-retardant, permanent, odorless, glass fiber material. 2.04 FANS: A. Provide fan section with forward curved, double width, double inlet, centrifugal type fan. B. Provide self-aligning, grease lubricated, ball or roller bearings with permanent lubrication fittings. C. Factory mount motor on slide rails. Provide access to motor, drive, and bearings through removable casing panels. D. Provide shafts constructed of solid hot rolled steel, ground and polished, with key-way, and protectively coated with lubricating oil. E. Provide cast iron or steel variable and adjustable pitched sheaves, dynamically balanced, bored to fit shafts and keyed. 2.05 COILS: A. Provide configured aluminum fin surface mechanically bonded to copper tubing coil. Enclose coils with headers and return bends fully contained within casing. Coil shall have factory installed expansion valves and factory pressure and leak tested at 375 psig. Provide drain pan constructed of PVC or galvanized steel with external connections on either side of unit. C. Provide electric coils and controls as indicated on the drawings. 2.06 FILTERS: A. Provide one inch throwaway filters, factory or field installed. Provide access from side panel for removal. Filter rack shall be field convertible to two-inch capability with field provided two inch throwaway filters. 2.07 CONTROLS: A. Provide factory installed and wired controls including fan contactor, low voltage terminal strip and single point power entry. B. Provide factory installed evaporator defrost control to prevent coil freezing at low evaporator temperatures. C. Mechanical Contractor shall provide all low voltage control wiring between air handling unit, condensing unit, and thermostats. 2.08 MISCELLANEOUS FEATURES: A. Refrigerant evaporator coil: 1. Coil assembled in an "A" configuration with aluminum fins machined to copper tubes. 2. See plans for scheduled capacity. 3. Drain pan constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel with drain connection. 4. Expansion valve - rapid equalizing type, similar to Sporlan #RPB. Hard shut-off type valves are not acceptable. B. Return Air Grilles: Provide return air grille for non-ducted return air. Grille shall be constructed of satin finished aluminum with non-adjustable louvers. Factory supplied and field installed. C. Mounting Sub-base: Provide sub-base constructed of heavy-gauge sheet metal with baked enamel finish. Sub-base shall elevate vertical floor mounted air handling unit in order to make proper condensate drain connections. Factory supplied and field installed. D. Thermostats: Provide 24-volt operation control. Factory supplied and field installed. Thermostat to be 7 day programmable and have fan/off/auto/heat/cool functions. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION OF UNITS: A. Install units as indicated, in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions, applicable portions of NEC, and with recognized industry practices to ensure that units fulfill requirements. B. Coordinate with other work, including electrical wiring/cabling and ductwork as necessary to interface installation of units with other work. THE KENT 23 81 26 - 4 THE KENT Issue Date 05.09.18 VERTICAL SPLIT SYSTEM AIR HANDLING UNITS THE KENT C. Clean dust and debris from each unit as it is installed to ensure cleanliness. D. Touch up scratched or marred unit enclosure surfaces to match original finishes. E. Tighten electrical connectors and terminals, including screws and bolts, in accordance with equipment manufacturer's published torque tightening valves for equipment connectors. Where manufacturer's torque requirements are not indicated, tighten connectors and terminals to comply with tightening torques specified in UL Standard 486A and B. 3.02 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL: A. Test unit wiring for electrical control. Subsequent to energizing power circuitry, demonstrate functioning of equipment and accessories in accordance with requirements. Where possible, field-correct malfunctioning units at site, then retest to demonstrate compliance; otherwise, remove and replace with new units and proceed with retesting. B. Replace units which are damaged and remove damaged units from construction site. END OF SECTION
