SECTION 02070 - SITE DEMOLITION
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 Related Documents
A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification
Sections apply to this Section.
1.2 Summary
A. This section includes:
1. Removal of pavement, sidewalks, storm sewers, sanitary sewers and other underground utilities.
2. Removal of all other items indicated on the Drawings.
3. Removal of fire pump and well casing and capping of well.
4. Backfill of holes or depressions caused by removal of items.
5. Placement of items to safeguard the public from danger.
1.3 Description of Work
A. Site demolition consists of removal of items from five (5) feet outside of building lines and subsequent disposal of items
removed.
B. Unauthorized site demolition consists of removal of items beyond the scope of the project and Drawings and without
specific authorization of Owner or Owner's Representative. Unauthorized demolition, as well as remedial work, shall be at
Contractor's expense.
1.4 Submittals
A. Submit schedule indicating
proposed methods and sequencing of
operations for the demolition
work
to the
Owner or
Owner's Representative for review prior to commencement of work.
Include coordination for shut-off,
capping,
and
continuation of utility services
as required, together with details for
dust, noise control protection
and
erosion
control.
1.5 Job Conditions
A. Occupancy. Conduct demolition work in a manner that will minimize the need for disruption of Owner's site operations.
Provide a minimum of 72 hours notification prior to commencement of work.
B. Condition of Structures: Owner assumes no responsibility for actual condition of items or structures to be demolished.
Owner will maintain conditions existing at time of commencement of Contract insofar as practical.
C. Contractor shall assume ownership of all materials, except those items listed by Owner prior to execution of Contract.
Contractor shall remove all demolished materials from site. Storage or sale of salvageable items on-site is not permitted.
D. Provide temporary barricades and other forms of protection as required to protect the Owner's personnel and general
public from injury due to demolition work.
1. Provide protective measures as required to provide free and safe passage of Owner's personnel and general public to and
from occupied buildings.
2. Provide interior and exterior shoring, bracing, or support to prevent movement, settlement, or collapse of structure or
element to be demolished, and adjacent facilities or work to remain.

E. Promptly repair damages caused to adjacent facilities by demolition work at no cost to Owner.
F. Conduct demolition operations and debris removal in o r:1onner to ensure minimum interference with roads, drives, streets,
walks, and other adjacent occupied or used facilities. Do not close, block, or otherwise obstruct roads, drives, street, walks,
and other occupied or used facilities without written permiss;on from authorities having jurisdiction. Provide alternate routes
around closed or obstructed traffic ways if required by Owner or governing regulations.
G. Use of explosives will not be permitted.
H. Burning or burial of demolished materials on-site is not permitted.
I. Maintain existing utilities to remain, keep in service, and ,)rotect against damage during demolition operations. Do not
interrupt existing utilities serving occupied or used facilities,. except when authorized in writing by authorities having
jurisdiction. Provide temporary services during interruptions to existing utilities, as acceptable to governing authorities.
Coordinate disconnection of utilities with Owner and utility companies prior to work.
J. Use water sprinkling, temporary enclosures, and other suitable methods to reduce and limit dust and dirt rising and
scattering in the air to the lowest practical level. Do not use water when it may create hazardous or objectionable
conditions such as flooding, ice and pollution.
K. If hazardous materials are encountered during demolition operations, comply with local, state and federal regulations, laws,
and ordinances concerning removal, handling and protection against exposure or environmental pollution.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
A. None
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 Execution
A. Prior to commencement of demolition work, inspect areae in which work will be performed. Photograph existing conditions
of structure surfaces, equipment or surrounding properties that could be misconstrued as damage resulting from demolition
work. File results with Owner.
B. Provide interior and exterior shoring, bracing, or support Jo prevent movement, settlement, or collapse of structures to be
demolished and adjacent structures to remain. Cease operc.tions and notify Owner or Owner's Representative immediately if
safety of structure appears to be endangered. Take precautions to support structure until determination is made for
continuing operations.
C. Perform demolition work in a systematic manner. Use such methods as required to complete work indicated on the
drawings in accordance with the demolition schedule and go✓erning regulations.
1. Provide services for effective air and water pollution controls as required by local authorities having jurisdiction.
2. Completely fill below grade areas and voids resulting from demolition work. Provide fill consisting of approved soils, free
of trash, debris, stones over six (6) inches, nominal diameter, roots or other organic material.
D. If unanticipated mechanical, electrical, or other structural elements are encountered, consult with Owner or Owner's
Representative concerning removal.
3.2 Disposal of Demolished Materials
A. Remove all debris, trash, rubbish and other material
and legally dispose of materials off-site.

3.3 Clean-up and Repair
A. Upon completion of demolition work, remove tools, equipment, and demolished materials from the site. Remove
protections and leave site clean and free of trash, rubbish and debris.
B. Repair demolition performed in excess of that required. Return structures and surfaces to remain to condition prior to
commencement of work. repair adjacent construction or surfaces soiled or damaged by demolition work.
