Dear Mr. Shestak and Ms. Conn:
We are writing about the Special Exemption application, Docket No. 18120014 SE. (Li short term residential rental).
We oppose the Exemption in our neighborhood, Guilford Park. I have read the ordinance, and agree with the
"whereas's" in the preamble. The unplanned conversion of dwellings to business uses within residential
neighborhoods, we fear, will definitely, negatively affect the quality of life, and market value of homes in our
neighborhood.
The representatives that we voted for wrote this ordinance, and stated that, "A Special Exemption shall be
considered as an exception to the uses allowed under the Unified Development Ordinance, and thus the original
application for a Special Exception shall not generally be entitled to favorable consideration." We encourage the
Zoning Board to take this approach.
We bought a single family home in a residential neighborhood and view any change to that designation as a
detriment to us and our many neighbors which will only benefit one homeowner.
If you allow this, you are basically allowing the applicants to place a boarding house in the middle of our single-
family neighborhood. Would you want a boarding house in the middle of your neighborhood? The Li's are asking to
use two bedrooms, but there is no limit on the number of bunk beds that could be placed in these rooms. There are
no city employees tasked with enforcing this short term residential rental phenomenon. What is to keep them from
using all four bedrooms? The lots in this neighborhood are small, and parking is difficult as it is. There could be
many cars parked along the street.
Please decide against granting a special exemption to our R1 zoning.
