RESOLUTION CC 04-15-19-01
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL,INDIANA,
REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE MODIFY THE LAST LINE OF
ADDRESS FOR ADDRESSES LOCATED WITHIN HOME PLACE
Synopsis: Resolution requests that the United States Postal Service modify last line of address for
addresses located within the 46280 zip code.
WHEREAS, in 2004 the City of Cannel Common Council (the "Council") adopted ordinance C-264,
which annexed the territory known as Home Place ("Home Place"); and
WHEREAS, the annexation of Home Place into the City of Cannel (the "City") became fully effective
on March 1, 2019; and
WHEREAS, with the annexation becoming fully effective on March 1, 2019, all services provided to
Home Place including, but not limited to, public schools, fire services, police services, water, sewer, trash and
all other municipal services are provided by the City of Cannel; and
WHEREAS, all addresses located within the 46280 zip code, which includes Home Place, currently,
and incorrectly, list Indianapolis as their city, despite the fact that the entire 46280 zip code is now completely
contained within the City's corporate limits; and
WHEREAS, changing the city address for addresses located within the 46280 zip code to reflect the
correct municipality of residence would prevent confusion, and would also foster a sense of inclusiveness and
community for these new residents of the City; and
WHEREAS, per United States Postal Service guidelines, a last line of address modification request will
be reasonably considered if the request is made by a municipality; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the residents of the City to request that the United States Postal
Service modify the last line of address for all addresses in the 46280 zip code to reflect that they are contained
within the City and not within the city of Indianapolis..
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Cannel, Indiana, as
follows:
Section 1. The foregoing Recitals are incorporated herein by this reference.

modify the last line of address for addresses located within the 46280 zip code to read: Carmel, Indiana.
