CHAPTER 7: FIRE AND SMOKE PROTECTION FEATURES
708.31Fire-resistance rating.
Fire partitions shall have a fire -resistance rating of not less than 1 hour.
Exceptions:
1.Corridor walls Permitted to have a 112-hour fire -resistance rating by Table 1020.1.
2.Dwelling unit and sleeping unit separations in buildings of Type 118, HIS and VB construction shall have fire -
resistance ratings of not less than 112 hour in buildings equipped throughout with an automatic sprinkler system in
accordance with Section 903.3.1.1.
717.3 Draftstopping in floors.
In combustible construction, Draftstopping shall be installed to subdivide floodceiling assemblies in the locations
prescribed in Sections 717.3.2 through 717.3.3.
Exceptions:
1. Draftstopping Is not required In buildings equipped throughout with an automatic sprinkler system in accordance
with Section 903.3.1.1.
CHAPTER 9: FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS
AN APPROVED AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS SPECIFIED FOR THIS PROJECT

AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEM SHALL BE DESIGNED AND INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 903
903.2.11.4Ducts conveying hazardous exhausts.
Where required by the Florida Building Code, Mechanical, automatic sprinklers shall be provided in duds conveying
hazardous exhaust, or flammable or combustible materials.
Exception: Ducts where the largest crossHmctional diameter of the duct is less than 10 inches (254 men).
SECTION 906 PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
906.1 W here required.
Portable fire extinguishers shall be installed in all of the following locations:
1.1n Group A, B, E, F, H, I, M, R-1, R-2, R4 and S occupancies.
Exception: In Group R-2 occupancies, portable fire extinguishers shall be required only in locations specified In Items 2
through 6 where each dwelling unit is provided with a portable fire extinguisher having a minimum rating of 1-A:10-13:C.
2.Within 30 feet (9144 ram) of commercial cooking equipment.
3.In areas where flammable or combustible liquids are stored, used or dispensed.
4.On each floor of structures under construction, except Group R-3 occupancies, in accordance with the Florida Fire
Prevention Code.
5.Where required by the Florida Fire Prevention Code.
6.Special-hazard areas, including but not limited to laboratories, computer roams and generator roams, where required by the
fire code official.

906ACooking grease fires.
Fire extinguishers provided farthe protection of cooking grease fires shall be of an approved type compatible with the
automatic fire -extinguishing system agent and in accordance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code.
907.2.8Group R-1.
Fire alarm systems and smoke alarms shall be installed in Group R-1 occupancies as required in Sections 907.2.8.1 through
907.2.8.3.

1005.3.1 Stairways
The capacity, in inches, of means of egress stairways shall be calculated by multiplying the occupant load served by such
stairways by a means of egress capacity factor of 0.3 inch ITS ram) per occupant. Where stairways serve more than one
story, only the occupant load of each storyconsidered individually shall be used in calculating the required capacity of the
stairways serving that story.
Exceptions:
1.For other than Group H and 1-2 occupancies, the capacity, in inches, of means of egress stairways shall be calculated by
multiplying the occupant load served by such stairways by a means of egress capacity factor of 0.2 inch (5.1 ram) per
occupant in buildings equipped throughout with an automatic sprinkler system installed in accordance with Section 903.3.1.1 or
903.3.1.2 and an emergency voice/alarm communication system in accordance with Section 907.5.2.2.
2.Facilities with smoke -protected assembly seating shall be permitted to use the capacity factors in Table 1029.6.2 indicated
for stepped aisles for exit access or exit stairways where the entire path for means at egress from the seating to the exit
discharge is provided with a smoke control system complying with Section 909.
3.Facilities with outdoor smoke -protected assembly seating shall be permitted to the capacity factors in Section 1029.6.3
indicated for stepped aisles for exit access or exit stairways where the entire path for means of egress from the seating to the
exit dischame is open to the outdoors.
