Project Introduction: Our property backs up to Main Street between Hawthorne and Brookshire Parkway. The Main street multi-use path runs behind our house. When the path was built,the contractor removed trees and brush between the pathway and Main Street, as well as many trees along the rear of our property.This exposed the rear of our house to traffic and pedestrian activity, particularly in the winter and spring.The traffic noise has increased significantly in the last two years due to increased traffic. Because our property sits well below street level,the noise level is significant. I have included photos of our property from our back yard as evidence. Our variance request is to place a fence close to the multi-use pathway much like the fence along 136' Street (Smokey Row rd.) Photo's included.There is precedence for these fences along Main Street at the roundabouts and along 136"Street.This fence would be replacing the old farm fence removed by the city, but placed closer to the path than the old wire farm fence. We believe that this fence will provide a sound barrier for our house as well as our neighbors and subdivision. We also believe that this will reduce foot traffic into the subdivision through private property. We have had a number of pedestrians, not from our neighborhood,walk into our property startling my wife. We believe that not having a fence creates a personal security risk to our family and neighboring families.The City will also benefit as there will be less area for mowing crews to mow and for refuse thrown from cars to pick up. We encourage the City to visit the site for a visual inspection of our claim. Statement of Variance request: Our variance request is to place an 8ft fence close to the multi-use pathway much like the fence along 136th Street (Smokey Row rd.) Photo's included. 8'tall with 0' setback.There is precedence for these fences along Main Street at the roundabouts and along 136th Street.This fence would be replacing the old farm fence removed by the city, but placed closer to the path than the old wire farm fence. A 6'fence in the same place as the original wire farm fence would be below street level and would provide no safety, light or sound barrier to our property and subdivision.
