Only one building may connect to the sewer main per lateral unless otherwise approved by TriCo.2. Foundation drains, sump drains, downspouts and other storm water drains shall never be connected to thesanitary sewer. Site dewatering systems shall never be discharged to the sanitary sewer.3. The existing sewer line from the building to the septic tank may only be reused if it is located under a buildingaddition, patio, porch or paved driveway, and the line passes an air test that is observed by TriCo. Contact TriCo formore information about air testing requirements. The property owner is responsible for testing costs.4.TriCo shall inspect all new laterals or lateral repairs in their entirety. Final connection to the sanitary sewer must beobserved by Trico. The property owner or contractor must notify TriCo prior to backfilling. Inspections must bescheduled at least 24 hours in advance. If an inspection fails and subsequent inspections are required, or if thecontractor is not on site for the scheduled inspection, a $100 fee will be assessed and must be paid prior toscheduling the reinspection.5. Septic system contents or effluent shall never be discharged to the sanitary sewer. Be advised that your countyhealth department regulates septic systems. Upon connection to sanitary sewer, a septic tank must typically beabandoned, pumped clean, and filled completely with earthen material. Contact your county health department formore information on septic system and abandonment requirements, and to notify the department of anyabandonment.6. The following materials are acceptable for use in gravity sewer lateral installation or repair:PVC pipe: SDR 35 or SDR 26, ASTM D3034, 6” diameterPVC pipe, pressure rated: SDR 21, ASTM D2241, 6” diameterPVC restrained joint pipe for directional drilling: Certaflo Greenline SDR 21, ASTM D2241, 6” diameterAll gasketed joints shall meet ASTM D3212All fittings shall be SDR26 or betterDuctile iron mechanical joint fittings with proper hardwareSDR 26 gasketed repair sleeves or Indiana Seal shear guardFernco and similar flexible couplings are only acceptable in certain circumstances and shall not be used withoutprior approval from TriCoCleanouts: 6” threaded PVC capsBedding: Use #8 crushed stone or fractured face aggregateThe following materials are acceptable for use in low-pressure sewer lateral installation or repair:HDPE pipe for directional drilling: DR 11 IPS, 1.25” diameter, PE4710Connections shall be made via electrofusion or using polypropylene or stainless steel compression fittingsElectrofusion high volume tapping tee, rated 200 psi, PE47101.25” IPS full port 1/4 turn fusible PE ball valve, rated 200 psiThreaded swing check valve, 316 stainless steel, rated 200 psiContact TriCo for acceptable pump station materials, equipment, pumps and other requirements7. For gravity and low-pressure systems, the line leaving the building shall not exceed 3’ in length before a cleanoutmust be added and the line is transitioned to 6” diameter SDR 35 PVC pipe. Glued joints are not allowed after 3’. Noadditional glued fittings are allowed between the building and the transition/cleanout. For all gravity lines, cleanoutsshall not be spaced more than 100’ apart between the building and the sewer main. See TriCo’s standard drawingsfor more information on cleanout installation.8. Bedding material shall be placed from at least 6 inches below to 12 inches above the pipe surface. The trench shallbe a minimum of 18” wide with at least 6” of clearance on both sides of the pipe. Material shall be placed over thepipe and tracer wire after inspection. Soft, unstable or unsuitable material found below and near the lateral,including any fill or foundation backfill material, must be removed and replaced with #8 stone. The contractor issolely responsible for establishing stable pipe bedding conditions.9. #10-AWG solid copper tracer wire shall be laid on top of and run the entire length of the lateral. All splicing of tracerwire shall use 3M splice kit model DBR/Y-6, King Innovation Dryconn Direct Bury Lug Aqua catalog #90220, or TriCoapproved equal.10. Laterals shall be installed at least 20’ from water wells unless PVC pressure grade pipe is used. Any proposedinstallation requiring pressure pipe shall be reviewed by TriCo prior to installation. Where a transition is madebetween SDR 35 pipe and pressure grade SDR 21 pipe, a ductile iron gasketed mechanical couplings must be used.11. Laterals less than 5’ deep shall be at least 24” from the property line. Laterals more than 5’ deep shall be at least 36”from the property line. Where the lateral runs in close proximity to the property line the property corners must beaccurately staked by a professional land surveyor prior to inspection.12. Laterals running parallel to a building or structure shall be at least 36” from the face of a crawl space or slab on gradefoundation and 60” from the face of a basement foundation wall. Spacing requirements also apply with respect tothe ancillary structure’s foundation depth. Ancillary structures (e.g. window wells) and other utilities shall not beplaced over or near the lateral. TriCo may adjust requirements where future access to the lateral may be obstructedby other utilities. The contractor should call to discuss further if he/she believes this could be an issue.13. All infrastructure connected to TriCo’s sewer system may be tested, inspected, or televised at TriCo’s discretion, andmust remain accessible and properly maintained.14. GENERAL 1.1 DESCRIPTION OF WORK A.General. 1.The extents of the landscape irrigation is shown on the drawing. 2.Unless otherwise specified, the plans and specifications are intended to include everything obviously requisite and necessary for the proper installation and completion of the work, whether or not each necessary item is mentioned herein. The plans and specifications are intended to be cooperative and any time called for in one and not the other shall be as binding as if called for in both. 1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE A.Manufacturing Qualifications. 1.Provide the landscape irrigation system as a complete unit produced by the manufacturers specified for all portions of the work including booster-pump, sprinkler heads and nozzles, drip-tubing, valves, pipe circuits, controllers and rain-sensors. Materials shall be purchased from a local authorized distributor of the specified products. The products specified for this project were specifically selected for this irrigation system. B.Installer Qualifications. 1.Acceptable installers per General Conditions of Specifications. C.Testing. 1.Pressure testing/verification shall be the responsibility of the irrigation contractor. D.Requirements of Regulatory Agencies. 1.System shall comply with the requirements of state and local codes and ordinances. 2.Electrical devices shall carry Underwriters' Laboratory labels. 1.3 REFERENCES A.ASTM D2241 - Polyvinyl chloride plastic pipe. B.ASTM D2564 - Solvent cement for polyvinyl chloride plastic pipe and fittings. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A.As-Builts. 1.Submit 'As-Built' drawings after Substantial Completion. 2.As-Built drawings shall be blackline prints (2 copies), same size as the original drawings; contractor should also provide a PDF file of the As-Built. B.Manufacturer's Data. 1.Submit one combined PDF of manufacturer's specifications and instructions for all materials and products to be used on the project, prior to beginning work. 1.5 GUARANTEE A.The Contractor shall furnish a written warranty to the effect that all materials and work furnished under this section is warranted for at least one year (from date of 'Finish-out'), shall be free from defects and faulty workmanship and that any defective material or work shall be promptly repaired or replaced without additional cost to the Owner. 1.6 PROJECT/SITE CONDITIONS A.Protection. 1.Protect structures, streets, curbs, sidewalks, fences, walls, trees and other existing features from damage. 1.7 SEQUENCING/SCHEDULING A.Irrigation system shall be installed and made operable before any seeding and sodding operations commence in lawn area. Drip-tubing placement in planting beds should follow planting. Coordinate irrigation installation and final head placement (height of sprinklers above grade) with contractors doing sodding and planting. In all affected areas, the ground should be restored to its original grade as existed just before installation began. 1.8 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE A.Provide instructions covering full operation, care and maintenance of system and controls. Also provide manufacturers' parts catalogs. B.Provide schedule showing length of time each valve is to be open (during May, July and September) to serve as a guide for the owner in establishing an appropriate 'water-window'. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIALS A.Automatic Controller. 1.Contractor shall provide and install new controller, as shown on plans (exact location in Mechanical Room to be determined). Model shall be: RainBird #ESP-LXME or Weathermatic SL1600, each with the appropriate number of expansion stations/modules to accommodate the number of zones shown on the plan. 2.Wireless rain-freeze sensor (#WR2-RFC for on-site monitoring) shall work in conjunction with Rainbird's ESP-LXME controller. For the Weathermatic controller, provide and install the wireless #SLW5 which shall work with the Weathermatic SL1600 controller. Sensor shall be installed within 500 feet of the controller. Mount sensor in exposed (to rain & sun) location, without any overhanging obstructions. Consult with Owner's representative to determine location and positioning of unit. Controller needs 120V AC power connection. It is contractor's responsibility to ensure effective communication between rain-freeze (or weather) sensor and controller. B.Controller - Valve Communications. 1.Communication between the controller and the valves shall be accomplished with copper wire with an exterior jacket which is U.L. listed for direct burial and sprinkler control. The contractor shall be responsible for correct wire sizing for distance and voltage loss. Use 18 gauge multi-strand wire for zone wires and #14 gauge for common wire runs. All field connections and splices shall be made in accordance with National Electrical Code® Articles 300.5 (Underground Installations) and 110.14 (Electrical Connections) using only 3M DBY-6 or DBR-6 connectors, which are UL listed under "UL 486D-Direct Burial", for wet or damp locations, 600 volts. C.Valves/Controls. 1.Quick coupling valves. a.Rain Bird #3-RC, or Hunter #HQ-3 (3/4” body with rubber cover) b.Supply appropriate matching key and hose ell. c.All quick coupling valves shall be connected to the mainline by Spears or Lasco 1” triple-elbow swing joints and placed in valve boxes when outside. 2.Automatic valves: The automatic control valves shall be plastic valves operated by low-power solenoid, normally closed, manual flow adjustment, as indicated on plans: 1” Rain Bird #100-PGA, or Hunter PGV-101G (when needed: #150-PGA or PGV-151). 3.Backflow preventer: Febco #825Y-15 provided and installed by Irrigation contractor (shown outside but may be inside Mechanical Room). 4.Master valves: not used on this system. D.Valve Enclosure. 1. Control valves and quick-coupling valves shall be enclosed in a fiberglass valve boxes such as Carson's “Spec Grade” or Rainbird's “VB Series”, or approved equal. Valve boxes are to be filled with a minimum of 6” of washed gravel below pipe level to insure adequate drainage. E.Pipe. 1.Main line piping shall be Class 200 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) solvent-weld (1.5”) pipe as manufactured by Cresline, or other approved equal. Pipe shall carry the N.S.F. seal of approval and meet the following specifications: ASTM D-2241, SDR 21 or latest revisions. Lateral pipes shall be Class 200 PVC, SDR 21, solvent-weld pipe. F.Sleeves. 1.Sleeves shall be twice the nominal size of the pipe to be carried within, unless noted differently. Sleeves for control wire only shall be 1.5” diameter, placed alongside (or above) each sleeve for the mainline. 2.Under paving and where indicated on drawings, install sleeves as follows: 4” and smaller shall be Schedule 40 PVC (ASTM D-1785). Tape ends of sleeves and mark sleeve locations with above grade stakes with appropriate annotation, i.e. “irrigation sleeves”. Stakes shall be protected. Do not backfill over sleeve locations behind back of curbs or along walk edges, until work has been completed. G.Pipe Fittings. 1.For main and all laterals, PVC fittings shall be solvent weld Schedule 40 standard weight. Attachment shall be made with both a primer and a solvent cement, as approved by the manufacturer. H.Sprinkler Heads. 1.Rotors and Spray Heads 1)The spray heads shall be Rain Bird #1804-SAM-PRS and Rain Bird #1812-SAM-PRS, or Hunter #PROS-04-PR30-CV and #PROS-12-PR30-CV with nozzles as shown in Irrigation Schedule. 2)Rotors shall be Rain Bird #5004 and #3504, or Hunter #PGP and #PGJ. (See 'Schedule' to see where located.) I.Sprinkler Risers. 1.Sprinkler heads are to be connected to the laterals by Rainbird SPX Swing-pipe and associated fittings, or 'Funny Pipe' by Irritrol/Toro. J.Drip Irrigation. 1.Continuously self-flushing, pressure-compensating dripline with internal check-valves, specifically manufactured for landscape applications. Drip-tubing shall be 17 mm (outside diameter), shall consist of 5/8” (nominal) low density, linear polyethylene tubing housing internal pressure-compensating, continuously self-flushing, integral drip emitters with check-valves, and shall have insert fittings made by same manufacturer. The emitters should have the ability to independently regulate discharge rates, with an output pressure of between 8-50 psi, at a constant flow. The emitters shall be spaced at 18” and have discharge rates of: 0.61 gallons per hour for planting areas, utilizing a combination turbulent flow/reduced pressure cell mechanism and a diaphragm to maintain uniform discharge rates. The emitters shall continuously clean themselves while in operation. In groundcover and shrub beds, the dripline shall have the 0.60 gph emitters spaced 18” apart, with approximately 18” spacing between rows, providing a precipitation rate of approximately 0.43 inches/hour (applying ¼” of water in 35 minutes). 2.Rain Bird's #XFCV-06-18 or Netafim #TLCV-6-18 (at 18” rows) K.Booster Pump. 1.If pressure is less than 72 psi at point-of-connection before backflow preventer, contractor shall provide and install a Rain Bird #LC750 ¾ hp (or Munro #CP075B) booster-pump package. (For bidding purposes, contractor shall assume that this booster-pump and pump-start relay will be necessary on both systems.) L.Manufacturer/Supplier. 1.The materials chosen for the design of the sprinkler system have been specifically referred to by manufacturer, enabling the Owner to establish the level of quality and performance required by the system design. After award of contract and prior to beginning work, the contractor shall submit for approval a combined PDF set of the complete list of materials to be installed. Landscape architect will review submittals and determine if products are acceptable. M.Acceptable Manufacturers of Whole-good Products. 1.Rain Bird or Hunter sprinklers and valves only 2.Weathermatic or Rain Bird controller and wireless rain-freeze sensor PART 3 - EXECUTION A.WATER SUPPLY 1.Supply to irrigation system shall be from a water supply, as shown on the plans. Backflow preventer will be provided and installed by irrigation contractor. Irrigation contractor's responsibility begins at the intake end of the backflow preventer. B.SYSTEM DESIGN 1.Lay out work as closely as possible to the drawings. The drawings, though carefully drawn, are generally diagrammatic to the extent that all offsets and fittings are not necessarily shown as they may exist on site. 2.The Contractor shall be responsible for full and complete coverage of irrigated areas as to spacing and precipitation rates being matched and shall make any necessary adjustments to the system at no additional charge to the Owner. Head spacing as shown on the drawings is predicated on the water pressure being 35-45 psi at the heads. Head spacing shall not exceed 55 percent of manufacturer's stated diameter. Contractor shall verify existing working pressure before commencing work. Revisions to the irrigation system must be submitted to the landscape architect in written form for approval. C.TRENCHING, BACKFILLING AND COMPACTING 1.Pulling, Excavating and Trenching. a.Trenching, backfilling and compacting shall be as per Sitework Specifications - Trenching and Backfilling for utilities. b.If trenching, trenches shall be made wide enough to allow a minimum of 6 inches between parallel pipe lines. If pulling, the same lateral distance shall be observed. 2.Minimum Cover. a.An absolute minimum of 12 inches cover shall be held over laterals. Mains and control wires shall be 18” (minimum) below finished grade, except where crossing roads/walks. Where crossing under roadways, top of sleeves shall be 18” below subgrade, which is grade before crushed-stone is laid for paving bed. 3.Backfill. a.Backfilling and backfill material shall be as per Sitework Specifications. Backfilling shall be done in 6” layers and compacted after each layer, to prevent excessive settling. b.Backfilling of trenches containing plastic pipe shall be done when pipe is cool to avoid excessive contraction in cold weather. Such backfilling can be done in early morning hours or the pipe may be water cooled prior to backfilling procedures. Re-seed trenched or disturbed areas to match adjacent existing turfgrass. c.Where pipe is pulled into the ground, slit-domes shall be compacted to original grade after pulling. Re-seed disturbed areas (slits from pulled pipe) to match adjacent existing turfgrass. 4.Pavements, Walks, Etc. a.Communication wire must be placed in 1.5” sleeves under pavement, drives and walks, etc. b.Sleeves required (including for 'Alternate' areas) shall be furnished and installed by the Irrigation Contractor, unless directed otherwise. D.INSTALLATION 1.General. a.Unless otherwise indicated, comply with requirements of the Local Plumbing Code. b.Install piping, valves, controls and sprinklers in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. c.Drip-tubing should be installed so that the tubing is pushed down 2-3” into the soil, and stapled every 36”, below the top of soil. Mulch will be placed on top of that. 2.Automatic Controllers. a.Controller shall be wall-mounted in Mechanical Room. Use manufacturer's instructions and template for installation. b.Power to the controllers and control wires shall be in EMT tubing or Schedule 80 PVC conduit. c.Connect remote control valves to controller in a sequence corresponding with station settings, as denoted on the plan. d.Communication circuitry shall be run, wherever possible, along with the mainline. e.A minimum of 24 inches of wire (one 8” diameter loop) shall be left at each valve to provide slack. 3.Piping. a Provide pipe from approved manufacturer. b.Pipe may be assembled and welded on the surface. c.Plastic pipe and fittings shall be solvent welded using solvents and methods as recommended by manufacturer of the pipe, except where screwed connections are required. Pipe and fittings shall be thoroughly cleaned of dirt, dust and moisture before applying solvent with a non-synthetic bristle brush. d.When pipe is pulled into the ground, all PVC pipe shall be solvent welded at least 24 hours before pulling. e.Make all connections between plastic pipe and metal valves or steel pipe with threaded fittings using plastic male adapters. f.Use dielectric fittings at connection where pipes of dissimilar metal are joined. g.Lay pipe on solid subbase, uniformly sloped without humps or depressions. h.Trenches (or pulls) shall be snaked, or the pipe snaked, within the trench to allow for expansion and contraction of pipe. i.At wall penetrations, pack the opening around pipe with non-shrink grout. At exterior face, leave a perimeter slot approximately ½” wide by ¾” deep. Fill this slot with backer rod and an acceptable elastomeric sealant. Repair below grade waterproofing disturbed by this work and make penetration watertight. j.Install PVC pipe in dry weather when temperature is above 40 degrees F in strict accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Allow joints to cure at least 24 hours at temperatures above 40 degrees F before testing, unless otherwise recommended by manufacturer. 4 Sprinkler Heads a.Install heads at proper grade level as per manufacturer's recommendation. b.Use only Teflon tape for sealing heads and riser assemblies when required 5 Closing of Pipes and Flushing Lines. a.Cap or plug openings as soon as lines have been installed to prevent the entrance of materials that would obstruct the pipe. Leave in place until removal is necessary for completion of the installation. Thoroughly flush out water lines and before installing heads, valves, and other hydrants. b.Test in accordance with industry standards and pipe ratings. c.Upon completion of the testing, the Contractor shall complete assembly and adjust sprinkler heads for proper distribution. 6 Grounding. Provide grounding of system components according to manufacturers' recommendations and guidelines. If booster-pump is needed, pump manufacturer provides explicit details on grounding requirements for booster-pumps. Controller manufacturers provide recommended grounding requirements and practices for their controllers. Ensure that controller and booster-pump are grounded according to manufacturers' specifications. Show locations and include details of grounding on shop-drawing submittals prior to installation. E.TESTING 1.Hydrostatic Testing. a.General Requirements: Perform testing in presence of Owner's Representative. Notify Landscape Architect not less than 72 hours before start of testing. b.Procedures of Testing: 1)Center load piping with backfill to prevent arching or slipping under pressure. 2)Apply a continuous and static water pressure of not less than 100 psi after welded plastic joints have cured not less than 24 hours, with the risers capped, as follows: a)Test main lines and sub-mains for 2 hours with minimal pressure drop (5%, or to 95 psi). b)Repair leaks resulting from tests and retest until satisfactory results are obtained. Upon completion of testing, Contractor shall install sprinkler heads and complete assembly. 2.Performance Test. a.General Requirements: Notify Landscape Architect, in writing, when the irrigation system is in place and ready for a performance test. Do not notify Landscape Architect until Irrigation Contractor has thoroughly observed operation of the irrigation system and found it to be satisfactory. Make adjustments and corrections in the system, if necessary, during performance testing. If performance test fails and additional site observations are required by Landscape Architect/ Owners Representative, Irrigation Contractor may be liable to compensate Landscape Architect/ Owners Representative for those additional observations. b.Materials and Labor: Provide all items necessary to conduct the performance test. 3.Operational Testing. a.Perform operational testing after backfill is completed and sprinkler heads are adjusted to final position. b.Demonstrate to the Owner that system meets coverage requirements and that automatic controls function properly. c.Coverage requirements are based on operation of one circuit at a time, unless noted differently. F.TRAINING 1.Personnel Training. a.Contractor shall be responsible for the training of as many personnel as the Owner shall deem necessary. b.Contractor shall be responsible for one closing and one opening of the system during the appropriate times of the year as part of the training of the Owner's personnel. c.Contractor training shall include general trouble-shooting and operation of the system with reference to head, valve and controller operation. G.SPARE PARTS 1.Submit spare parts as pertains to warranted materials, described by manufacturers' warranties. 2.Provide: a.Two extra sprinkler heads and one extra control valve of each size and type. b.One key for quick coupling valves. c.Owners/operational manuals available on controller, heads, valves and pump (if used). H.CLEAN UP 1.Remove debris, resulting from work of this Section, from the site. 2.Re-seed trenched or disturbed areas to match adjacent existing turfgrass. I.ADJUSTMENT 1.After completion of grading, seeding or sodding, if applicable, contractor shall return to the jobsite to perform any final adjustments to the system, which might be deemed necessary. 2.Maintenance shall include, in addition to initial start-up, one winterization and one Spring start-up the following year. Re-set heads twice, as directed, if necessary.
