1. Staudazd specificatious of Clay Townahip RegionaL Was[e bistrict (the Distric[) eud
Deparhnent of Transportation (INDOT) shatl apply for all woiic and materials. Sanitary
uwer pipe shall be installed in eccordance with Su[ion 715 of [he cu�ren[ INDOT standard
specifications haudbook.
2. Smitarysewerg�a�vitypipe,unlesspressureratedpiperequiredpalACord'uectlonaldrilled
S
pipe, shall be Palyviuyl Chbride (PVC) in accordance with ASTM D3034-89 wi[h a
rttinimum wall thiclmess desi�atioo of� SDR 35 and insialled pec ASTM D232I-89
specification. PVC pipe used shall be groovedbell, spigo[ end, and guke[ed. The pipe shall
be made of PVC plasfic beving a ccll class�cation of 12454B.
3. PVC saoitary sewei gavity fittings shall also conform to t5e requirements of tlie ASTM
D3034-89 specification. All fittiogs shall be molded in one piece wi[h standard pipe
bclls, gaske[ed elastomericjoints, and spigot ends. Single picce molded PVC with
srandard pipe betls, gaskeb, and apigM euds for back-m-back tee wyes aze acceptable.
Wall Uuckness of all fittings shall have a minimum desi�a4on o( SDR 26. Gaskets for
elastomerie join[s sha0 be molded with a minimum cross-sec[ional area of 020 square
inches and conform w AS"LM F477 speclfication.
4. All sanitary maoholes shall be precast concrete manholes in accordance wiN A57'M C478
and Fec[ioo 720 of iha curreot INDOT standard specifications handbook. O-rings shall
wnCo}m to C443. Duuble row of Kent Seal or eyuivalent shall also be applied to all joints
and belwern riser rings end castings. Manhole s[ep spacing shall be no more than I Crinches.
Maoholes shall be air tested for leakage in accordaace with ASTM C 124402, StmdardTest
MetLod for Concrete Sewer Manholes by the Negafive Air Peessure (Vacuum) Test.

accordance with manu£acnirers' recommendations and perforenance specifications
which have been provided byihe manufacturerand acceptedbythe District Engineer.
The vacuum eguipmrnt mvst be capa6le oftesfing the enNre manhole, including the
casNng and riser rings.
B. With the vacuwu tester sec in place:
1. Connec[ Ihe vacuum pump to the ouHe[ port wifh the valve� oprn.
2. Ikaw a vacuum of ten Q 0) inches of Hg. (5 psi) and elose the valve.
C. Accepted standards for leakage will be estabGshed firom�the elapsed time for a
negaNve pressure change from teu (lU) inc6es to nine (9) iuches of inercury. The
mzzimum aliowable leakage mte for a four (4) foot diameter manhole must be in
accordance with tfie Pollowing:
16. Watar line, utility, aud legaf drain crossings and separatioos shall be in accordance with
lhe mom shiugent of the [wo: 327 WC 3-6-9 or [he Districts s[andard drawings.
l7. The trench shall be opened suf6ciently ehead of pipe layiug�to roveal obstruction, and
shall be propuly protected end/or bamcaded when left unattended.
18. No water sLall be pe�mitted to flow into the smitary sewec system during conatmction.

shxll be directed to a stolm outle[ in accordence with sta[e and fedetel laws and
reguladone (327IAC 3-620). Any pipe entering exisdng sewera shall be plugged with
screw type mechanical, braced plug until such time as aIl tests on the sewers and all
pmc6 Gst items aze complete.
19. All sewer laterals installed shall be bedded the same as themain line sewer.
20. Forty-eigLt (48) hoius notice shall be given to [he District prior to the start of sewer
wnsWction. Also, 48 hours notice sha116e given prior W doing any testing on Ne
Sewer.
2l. Maohole castings shall be stumped SADIITARY SEWER (Neenah Casting R-1772 or
East Jordan 102221GS) and be self-sealing type. The casting f[ange shaf! be 34 inches
and tAe c%ar opening sMll be min. 10-13/l6 inches. Watertigh[ ces[ings shall be bo16
down East Jordan 1022'LIPT and also stamped SANCfAAY SEWER.
22. The minimum slope of the sewer shall be:

23. The Contracror shall provide measurements of ihe slope of the sewer for each manhole
sectiou as consWclion progresses. Such measuremenls shall be certified by a Regis[ered
Land Surveyar ar Eugineer aud be available un-site for abservafion by the DistricPs
L�spector. No more than llvee manhole sections can be constructed in advance of such
measuremrnts.
24. In the event the ConMac[or dces not meet the�minimum slopes, the sewer aection and any
othu affected sewer sxtions shell be roconsaucted to meet such minimum slopea.
25. Laternls are to be installed with a minimum 14 gauge hacec wve. from the wye to the
te}minus. Upon lateral completion the wntrecmr for the building or home will ez[end the
wire from tLis terminus to the building cleanou[ adjacen[.[o [he buildivg.

For manholes five (5) feet in diameftr, add an additional fiHeen (15) 9econds and for
roaoholes six (6} feet in diametee, add art additional tLiny (30) seconds to� the time
requirements for four (4) foo[ diameter maoholes. For all manholes deeper [han
lwrnty-five (25) feet, the Enginecr will detennine the applicable minimum elapsed
time.
D. If the meohole fails the [est, necessary repairs must be made. 1'he vacuum test and
repairs must be ropeated untll the rt�anl�ole pacses the test.
E. If manhole join[ sea(ants are pulled ou[ di¢iug [lie vawum lest, [he manhole must be
disasaembled and thejoint sealanis replaced.
F. tvlanholes will be subjec[ to visual inspectiou with all�visual leaks being repaircd.
5. BuTyI rubber coating with plaetic wrap shall M1e applieA around eac6 manhole joint from 3-
inches above to 3-inches below eachjoiu[. The appropriate primer shall be applied prior to
applying the iubber coa6ng. Inside joints to be filled with precoat plug material. Enfire
exterior surfsce ofsaztilary aewe� mauholes shell be sprayed with a bituminous coating and
all eztenor gap exposare of riser rings Shall y¢ back plastered or grou[ed wiM nonshrink
grout.
6. The manliole chimncys, includwg all riur nngs shall be sea4d using flex rib iut<mal
chimney seal mawfacNred by Cretex, NPC, or a District approved equal. The flex rib
intemal chimney seal shall exteud from a minimum of 3-inches below the top af the cone
section to 3-inches over the manhole casting frame or per manufacturers installafion
procedures it d'uected otherwise. Intemal Chimney Seal shall be installed afler roanhole.

12. All sanirary sewer lices upan completion will be aquired to pass a low pressure air rest.
Said test shall be conducted according to ASTM F1417-92, and shall be wimessed by a
District employee or the Districts represmhn[ive. The testing shall be in accorda�ce with
Table l es follows with 0.5. psi being added fo: eech foot of water above We sewer line
being tested. Sewer lwes shall be subject ro visual leak inspection et doaystream
manholes with all visual Leaks beivg repaired and subject to televisivg requesis by the
DisMc[.
13. Prior m final deftection test (roandrel test) all mainlines shall be cleaned and free of auy
debris. lleflection tests shall be pedomed on all 1lerzible" pipe after the final bxkfill has
been in ptace at least 30 days. Fo pipc shall exceed a vertical deflection of 5% deflectian
test results. (*The following are considered non-Fl�ible pipes: wncrete pipe, ductile iron
pipe, and cast iron pipe). The de�ection test shall be performed wit6 a uine-point
mandrel. Proviug rings s6all be availa6le at time of test otherwise no testing will be
allowed. All manclrel testiug shall be wimessed by a District employee or the Districts
represrnhative.

2 Poundation drains, sump drains, downspouts and other storm water drains shall never be mnnc�md tc tl�c
sanitary sewer. Site dewatering rystems shall never be discharged to the sanitary sewer.
3. The existing sewer linefmm the building to the septic tank may only be reused if it is located under a bullding
:iddition, patio, porch or paved driveway, and the line passes an air test that is observed by TriCa Contact Tri[ c Ic
nore information about air testing requirements. The property owner is responsible for testing costs.
