Manufacturing Dualifications. 1. Pmvide �he landscape irriga�ion sys�em as a comple�e uni� praduced by �he manufacWrers specified for all portions of ihe work induding booster-pump, sprinkler heads and nozzles, dnp-tubing, valves, pipe circuits, con�mllers and rain-sensors. Ma�erials shall be pumhased fmm a local au�horized distribu�or of �he specrfied protluc�s. The protluc�s specifietl for �his prqec� were specifiwlry selec�etl for �his irriga�ion sys�em. B. Ins�aller Qualifica�ions. 1. Acceptable installers per General Conditions of Specifications. C. Testing. 1. Pressure �es�ing/verifica�ion shall be �he responsibility of �he irriga�ion wntrador. �. Requiremen�s of Regula�ory Agencies. 1. Sys�em shall compty wi�h �he requiremen�s of s�a�e and local codes and ordinances. 2. As-Built drawings shall be blackline prinis (2 copies), same size as ihe original drawings; coniractor should also provide a P�F file of �he As-Buitl. B. Manufacturefs �ata. 1. Submi� one combinetl P�F of manufacNrers specifiw�ions antl ins�mc�ions for all ma�erials antl protluc�s �o be used on �he projed, prior �o beginning work. 1.5 GUAR4NTEE A. The Conirdctor shall fumish a written warranty to ihe effed ihat all materials and work fumished under ihis section is warran�ed for a� leas� one year (fmm da�e of'Finish-ou�'), shall be free fmm defecls and faul�y workmanship and ihat any detective material or work shall be prompity repaired or replaced without additional cost to ihe Owner. 1.6 PROJECT/SITECON�ITIONS A. Pro�ec�ion. 1. Pm�ed s�mdures, stree�s, curbs, sidewalks, fences, walls, trees and o�her exis�ing feaNres fmm damage. 1] SEpUENCING/SCHEOULING A. Irrigation system shall be installed and made operable before any seeding and sodding operations commence in lawn area. �rip-Wbing placemen� in plan�ing beds should follow plan�ing. Coordina�e irriga�ion ins�alla�ion and final head placement (height ot sprinklers above grede) with conirdctore doing sodding and planting. In all attecYed areas, ihe gmund should be restored to its original grade as existed just before installation began. 1.8 OPER4TION AN� MAINTENANCE A. Provide ins�mc�ions covering full opera�ion, care and main�enance of sys�em and controls. Also provide manufaclurers' parls ca�alogs. B. Provide schedule showing leng�h of �ime each valve is �o be open (during May, July and Sep�ember) �o serve as a guide for �he owner in es�ablishing an appropria�e'wa�er-windoW. PART2-PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIALS A. Au�oma�icGonVoller. 1. Conirador shall provide and install new coniroller, as shown on plans (exact location in Mechanical Room to be de�ermined). Model shall be: RainBird #ESP-LXME or Wea�herma�ic SLifi00, each wi�h �he appmpria�e number of expansion s�a�ions/motlules �o accommotla�e �he number of zones shown on �he plan. 2. Wireless rain-freeze sensor (#WR2-RFC foron-si�e moni�oring) shall work in conjunc�ion wi�h Rainbird's ESRLXME con�roller. For �he Wea�herma�ic con�roller, provitle antl ins�all �he wireless #SLW5 which shall woik wi�h �he Wea�heima�ic SL1600 wntroller. Sensor shall be ins�alled wi�hin 500 fee� of �he wntrollec Moun� sensor in exposed (�o rain 8 sun) loca�ion, wi�hou� any overhanging obs�mclions. ConsW� wi�h Owner's representative to determine location and positioning of unit. Coniroller needs 120V AC power connedion. It is contraclor's responsibility �o ensure effeclive communica�ion be�ween rain-freeze (or wea�her) sensor and conVoller. B. GonVoller-ValveGommuniw�ions. 1. Communica�ion beN✓een �he con�mller and �he valves shall be accomplished wi�h copper wire wi�h an ex�erior jacket which is U.L listetl for tlirect burial antl sprinkler conVol. The conVactor shall be responsible for correct wire sizing for dis�ance and vol�age loss. Use 18 gauge mul�i-s�rand wire for zone wires and #14 gauge for common wire mns. All field conneclions and splices shall be made in accordance wi�h Na�ional Elec�rical CodeO Artides 3005 (Underground Installations) and 110.14 (Elecirical Connections) using only 3M �BV-6 or DBR-fi conneclors, which are UL lis�ed under "UL 48fiD-Direcl Burial", for we� or damp loca�ions, fi00 vol�s. Automatic valves: The automatic conirol valves shall be plastic valves operated by low-power solenoid, normally closed, manual flow adjusMen�, as indica�ed on plans: 1" Rain Bird #100-PGA, or Hun�er PGV401G (when neetletl: #1 W-PGA or PGV-151). 3. Backflow preven�ec Febco i!ffiSV45 omvided and ins�alled by Irripa�ion contraclor (shown ou�side bu� may be insitle Mechaniwl Room). 4. Mas�er valves: no� used on �his sys�em. �. Valve Enclosure. 1. Conirol valves and quick-wupling valves shall be endosed in a fiberglass valve boxes such as Carson's "Spec Grade" or Rainbird's "VB Series", or appmved equal. Valve boxes are �o be filled wi�h a minimum of 6" of washed gravel below pipe level to insure adequate drainage. E. Pipe. 1. Main line piping shall be qass 200 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) solvenbweld (LS') pipe as manufaclured by cresiine mer annrnver� equal. Sleeves shall be iwice ihe nominal size of ihe pipe to be carried within, unless noted dRferently. Sleeves for con�ml wire only shall be 1.5" diame�er, placed alongside (or above) each sleeve for �he mainline. 2. Under paving and where indicated on drawings, install sleeves as follows: 4" and smaller shall be Schedule 40 PVC (ASTM �-1785). Tape ends of sleeves and mark sleeve loca�ions wi�h above grade s�akes wi�h appropriate annotatioq i.e. "irrigation sleeves". Stakes shall be protected. �o not backtill over sleeve Ixations behind back of wrbs or along walk edges, un�il work has been comple�ed. G. Pipe Fi��ings. 1. For main and all laterals, PVC fittings shall be solvent weld Schedule 40 standard weight. Attachment shall be made wi�h bo�h a pnmer and a solven� cemen�, as appmved by �he manufacWrer. H. SprinklerHeads. 1. Rotorsand5prayHeads i) The spray heads shall be Rain Bird #1804-SAM-PRS and Rain Bird #1812-SAM-PRS, or Hunter #PROS-04-PR30-GV antl #PR054&PR30-GV wi�h nozzles as shown in Irriga�ion Schetlule. 2) Ro�ors shall be Rain Bird #5004 and it3504, or Hun�er #PGP and #PGJ. (See'Schedule' �o see where located.) I. SprinklerRisere. 1. Sprinkler heads are �o be connecled �o �he la�erals by Rainbird SPX Swing-pipe and associa�ed fi��ings, or 'Funny Pipe' by IrriVol/Toro. J. �rip Irrigation. 1. The materials chosen for ihe design of ihe sprinkler system have been specRically referred to by manufadurer, enabling �he Owner �o es�ablish �he level of quality and performance required by �he sys�em design. Afler award of conVac� antl prior �o beginning work, �he conVac�or shall submi� for approval a combinetl POF se� of �he comple�e lis� of ma�erials �o be ins�alled. Weathermatic or Rain Bird coniroller and wireless rain-freeze sensor PART3-EXECUTION A. WATERSUPPLV 1. Suppty to irrigation system shall be Gom a water supply, as shown on ihe plans. 8acktlow preventer will be pmvided and installed by irrigation conirador. Irrigation conirador's responsibility begins at ihe intake end of ihe backflow preven�er. 8. SVSTEM OESIGN L Lay ou� work as closely as possible �o �he drawings. The drawings, �hough carefully drawn, are generally diagrdmmatic to ihe extent ihat all ottsets and tittings are not necessarity shown as ihey may exist on site. 2. The Conirdctor shall be responsible for full and complete coverage of irrigated areas as to spacing and precipi�a�ion ra�es being ma�ched and shall make any necessary adjus�men�s �o �he sys�em a� no addi�ional charge to ihe Owner. Heatl spacing as shown on ihe tlrawings is pretlicatetl on ihe water pressure being 35-45 psi a� �he heads. Head spacing shall no� exceed 55 percen� of manufacNrefs s�a�ed diame�er. Con�rador shall verify exis�ing working pressure before commencing work. Revisions �o �he irriga�ion sys�em mus� be submi��ed �o �he lantlswpe archi�ec� in wriVen form for approval. C. TRENCHING, BACKFILLING AN� COMPACTING 1. Pulling, Excava�ing and Trenching. a. Trenching, backfilling and wmpading shall be as per Sitework Specifications -Trenching and Backfilling for u�ili�ies. b. If trenching, trenches shall be made wide enough �o allow a minimum of 6 inches behveen parallel pipe lines. If pulling, �he same la�eral dis�ance shall be observed. 2. Minimum Cover. a. An absolu�e minimum of 12 inches cover shall be held over la�erals. Mains and con�ml wires shall be 18" (minimum) below finished grade, excep� where crossing roads/walks. Where crossing under roadways, �o� of sleeves shall be 18" below subgrade, which is grade before croshed-stone is laid for paving bed. 3. Backfill. a. Backfilling antl backfill ma�erial shall be as per Si�ework Specifiw�ions. Backfilling shall be tlone in 6" layers and compaded afler each layer, �o preven� excessive se��ling. b. Backfilling of Venches con�aining plas�ic pipe shall be tlone when pipe is cool �o avoitl excessive conVac�ion in cold wea�her. Such backfilling can be done in eady moming hours or �he pipe may be wa�er cooled prior �o backfilling procedures. Re-seed trenched or dis�urbed areas �o ma�ch adjacen� exis�ing �urtgrass. c. Where pipe is pulled in�o �he ground, sli�-domes shall be compac�ed �o original grade afler pulling. Re-seed disWrbed areas (sli�s from pulled pipe) �o ma�ch adjacen� exis�ing Wrtgrass. 4. Pavemen�s, Walks, E�c. a. Communica�ion wire mus� be placed in 1.5" sleeves under pavemen�, drives and walks, e�c. b. Sleeves required (including for'Alternate' areas) shall be fumished and installed by ihe Irrigation Conirador, unless direc�ed o�herwise. D. INSTALLATION 1. Generdl. a. Unless o�herwise indica�ed, comply wi�h requiremen�s of �he Local Plumbing Code. b. Install piping, valves, conimis and sprinklers in acwrdance with manufadurefs written insimctions. c. �rip-tubing shoultl be installetl so ihat ihe tubing is pushetl tlown 2-3" into ihe soil, antl stapletl every 36", below �he �op of soil. Mulch will be placed on �op of �ha�. 2. Au�oma�ic Con�mllers. a. Coniroller shall be wall-mounted in Mechanical Room. Use manufadurer's insimctions and template for ins�alla�ion. b. Power to ihe conirollers and conirol wires shall be in EMT tubing or Schedule 80 PVC conduit. c. Connecl remo�e control valves �o con�roller in a sequence conesponding wi�h s�a�ion se��ings, as deno�ed on ihe plan. d. Communication circuitry shall be ruq wherever possible, along with ihe mainline. e. A minimum of 24 inches of wire (one 8" diame�er loop) shall be lef� a� each valve �o pmvide slack. 3. Piping. a Pmvide pipe fmm appmved manufadurer. b. Pipe may be assembled and welded on ihe surtace. c. Plas�ic pipe and fi��ings shall be solven� welded using solven�s and me�hods as recommended by manutacturer ot ihe pipe, except where screwed connections are required. Pipe and tittings shall be �homughly cleaned of dih, dus� and moisNre before apptying solven� wi�h a non-syn�he�ic bris�le brush. d. When pipe is pulled into ihe grounQ all PVC pipe shall be solvent welded at least 24 hours betore pulling. e. Make all connec�ions be�ween plas�ic pipe and me�al valves or s�eel pipe wi�h �hreaded fi��ings using plas�ic male adapters. f. Use dielec�ric fitlings a� connec�ion where pipes of dissimilar me�al are joined. g. Lay pipe on solid subbase, uniformly sloped without humps or depressions. h. Trenches (or pulls) shall be snaked, or �he pipe snaked, wi�hin �he �rench �o allow for expansion and conirdction of pipe. i. A� wall pene�ra�ions, pack �he opening around pipe wi�h non-shrink grou�. A� ex�erior face, leave a perime�er slot approximately Y:" wide by'/." deep. Fill ihis slot with backer rod and an acceptable elastomeric sealant. Repair below grade wa�erpmofing disWrbed by �his work and make pene�ra�ion wa�ehigh�. j. Install PVC pipe in dry weather when temperdWre is above 40 degrees F in sirid accordance with manufaclurers ins�mc�ions. Allowjoin�s �o cure a� leas� 24 hours a� �emperaWres above 40 degrees F betore testing, unless otherwise recommended by manutacturer. 4 SprinklerHeads a. Ins�allheatlsa�propergratlelevelaspermanufacWrer's recommentla�ion. b. UseontyTeflon�apeforsealingheadsandriserassemblieswhenrequired 5 Closing of Pipes and Flushing Lines. a. Cap or plug openings as soon as lines have been ins�alled �o preven� �he entrance of ma�erials �ha� would obs�mc� �he pipe. Leave in place un�il removal is necessary for comple�ion of �he ins�alla�ion. Thoroughly flush out water lines and before installing heads, valves, and other hydrdnis. b. Tes� in accordance wi�h indus�ry s�andards and pipe ra�ings. c. Upon comple�ion of �he �es�ing, �he Con�rador shall comple�e assembly and adjus� sprinkler heads for proper dis�ribu�ion. 6 Gmunding. Provide grounding of system componenis according to manufacWrers' recommendations and guidelines. If boos�er-pump is needed, pump manufac�urer provides explici� de�ails on grounding requiremen�s for booster-pumps. Coniroller manufadurers provide recommended grounding requiremenis and practices for �heir conVollers. Ensure �ha� conVoller antl boos�er-pump are grountletl accortling �o manufacNrers' specifications. Show locations and include details of gmunding on shopdrawing submittals prior to ins�alla�ion. E. TESTING Hydros�a�ic Tes�ing. a. General Requiremenis: Pertorm testing in presence of Ownefs Representative. Notify Landscape Amhi�ecl no� less �han 72 hours before s�atl of �es�ing. b. ProceduresofTesting: i) Cen�er load piping wi�h backfill �o preven� arching or slipping under pressure. 2) Apply a continuous and static water pressure of not less ihan 100 psi after welded plastic joinis have cured no� less �han 24 hours, wi�h �he risers capped, as follows: a)Tes� main lines and sub-mains for 2 hours wi�h minimal pressure dmp (5%, or �0 95 psi). b) Repair leaks resulting from tesis and retest until satisfadory resulis are obtained. Upon completion of �es�ing, Con�raclor shall ins�all sprinkler heads and comple�e assembly. 2. PerformanceTes�. a. General Requiremenis: Notify Landscape Archited, in writing, when ihe irrigation system is in place and ready for a performance �es�. �o no� no�ify Landscape Amhi�ecl un�il Irriga�ion Con�raclor has �homughly observetl opera�ion of �he irriga�ion sys�em antl fountl i� �o be sa�isfac�ory. Make atljus�men�s antl wrredions in �he sys�em, rf necessary, during performance �es�ing. If performance �es� fails and addi�ional si�e observa�ions are required by Landscape Amhi�ecV Owners Represen�a�ive, Irriga�ion Con�raclor may be liable to compensate Landscape ArchitecV Owners Representative for ihose additional observations. b. Ma�erials and Labor Pmvide all i�ems necessary �o conducl �he pertormance �es�. 3. Opera�ional Tes�ing. a. Perform opera�ional �es�ing afler backfill is comple�ed and sprinkler heads are adjus�ed �o final posi�ion. b. �emonsirate to ihe Owner ihat system meets coverage requiremenis and ihat automatic conirols fundion pmpedy. a Coverage requiremenis are based on operation of one circuit at a time, unless noted differenity. F. TRAINING 1. PersonnelTraining. a. Gon�rac�or shall be responsible for �he �raining of as many personnel as �he Owner shall tleem necessary. b. Con�rac�or shall be responsible for one closing and one opening of �he sys�em during �he appmpria�e �imes of �he year as parl of �he Vaining of �he Owners pereonnel. a Con�rac�or �raining shall include general �muble-shoo�ing and opera�ion of �he sys�em wi�h reference �o heatl, valve antl conVoller opera�ion. G. SPARE PARTS 1. Submit spare pahs as pehains to warranted materials, described by manufadurers' warranties. 2. Pmvide: a. Two exVa sprinkler heatls antl one exVa conVol valve of each size antl type. b. One key for quick coupling valves. a Owners/operational manuals available on coniroller, heads, valves and pump (if used). H. CLEAN UP 1. Remove debris, resulting from work of ihis Sedion, from ihe site. 2. Re-seed �renched or dis�urbed areas �o ma�ch adjacen� exis�ing �urtgrass. I. A�JUSTMENT 1. Atler completion of grading, seeding or sodding, if applicable, coniractor shall reNm to ihe jobsite to pertorm any final adjus�men�s �o �he sys�em, which migh� be deemed necessary. 2. Maintenance shall inclutle, in atltlition to initial stah-up, one winterization antl one Spring stah-up ihe following year. Re-se� heads �wice, as direc�ed, if necessary.
