SUMMARY OF LATERAL INSTALL4TION REQUIREMENTS
1. Only one builtling may ronnect to the sewer main per lateral unless otherwise approved 6y TriCo.
2. Foundationdrains,sumpdrains,downspoutsandotherstormwaterdrainsshallneverbeconnectedmthe
sanitary sewec Site dewatering systems shall never be discharged to the sanitary sewer.
3. The existing sewer line from the building to the septic tank may only be reused it it is located under a building
addition, patio, porch or paved driveway, and [he line passes an air tes[ that is observed by TriCo. Cantact TriCa for
more informatian about air testing requirements. The property owner is respansible for testing costs.
4. TriCoshallinspec[allnewlateralsorlateralrepairsinffieirentirety.Finalmnnectionmffiesanitarysewermustbe
observed by Trim. The pmperty owner or mnhactor must notify TriCo prior m backfilling. InspeRions must be
soheduled at least 24 hours in advance. If an inspection fails and subsequent inspections are required, or if the
mntractor is not on site tor the scheduled inspection, a 5100 fee will be assessed and must be paid priorto
scheduling the reinspection.
5. Septic system contents or effluent shall never be discharged ro the sanitary sewer. Be advised that your mwty
healffi department regulates septic systems. Upom m�nection m sanitary sewer, a sep[ic tank must typically be
abandoned, pumped dean, and filled completely with earthen materiaL Contact yaur rounty health department for
more information on septic rystem and abandonment requirements, and m notify ffie department of any
abandonment.
6. Thefollowingmaterialsareacceptableforuseingravirysewerlateralinstallationorrepair:
PVC pipe: SDR 35 or SDR 26, ASTM D3034, 6" diameter
PVC pipe, pressure rated:SDR 21, ASTM D2241, 6" diameter
PVC restrained joint pipe for directional drilling: Certatlo Greenline SDR 21, ASTM D2241, 6" diameter
All gasketed joints shall meet ASTM D3212
All fittings shall be SDR26 or better
Duotile imn mechanical joint fittings with praper hardware
SDR 26 gasketed repair sleeves or Indiana Seal shear guard
Femm and similar flexible muplings are only ameptable in certain circumstances antl shall not be used without
prior approval trom TriCo
Cleanouts:6"threaded PVC caps
Bedding: Use #8 crushedstone orfracturedface aggregate
The following materials are acceptable for use in low-pressure sewer lateral installation or repair:
HDPE pipe for directional drilling: �R 11 IPS, L25" diameter, PE4]10
Connections shall be made via electmfusion or using polypropylene or s[ainless sieel rompression fittings
Electrofusion high volume tapping tee, rated 200 psi, PE4]10
115" IPS full port 1/4 tum fusi6le PE 6all valve, rated 200 psi
Threaded swing check valve, 316 stainless steel, rated 200 psi
Contact TriCo for acreptable pump station materials, equipment, pumps and other requirements
Z For gravity and low-pressure systems, the line leaving the building shall not exceed 3' in length betore a deanout
must be added and the line is transitioned to 6" diamerer SDR 35 PVC pipe. Glued joints are not allowed afrer 3'. No
additional glued fittings are allowed between the building and the transition/deanout For all gravity lines, deanouts
shall not be spaced more [han ID�' apart between ffie building and the sewer main. See TriCo's standard drawings
for more information on deanout installation.
8. eedding material shall be placed fmm at least 6 inches below m 12 inches above ffie pipe wrface. The trench shall
be a minimum of 18" wide with at least 6" of dearanre on both sides of the pipe. Material shall be plared over the
pipe and tracer wire after inspection. Soft, unstable or unsuitable material found below and near the lateral,
induding any fill or toundation backfill material, must be removed and replaced with #8 stone. The contractor is
solely responsible for establishing stable pipe bedding conditions.
9. #10-AWG solid mppertracerwire shall be laid on top of and run the entire length of the lateral. All splicingottracer
wire shall use 3M splice kit model DBR/V-6, King Innovation Drymnn Direct Bury Lug Aqua catalog p90220, or TriCo
approvedequal.
10. Lacerals shall be installed at least 20' from water wells unless PVC pressure grade pipe is used. Any proposed
installation requiring pressure pipe shall be reviewed by TriCo prior m installation. W here a transition is made
between SDR 35 pipe and preswre grade SDR 21 pipe, a ductile imn gasketed meohanical couplings must be used.
11. Laterals less than 5' deep shall be at least 24" from the property line. Laterals more than 5' deep shall be at least 36"
from the properry line. W here the lateral runs in dose proximiry to the property line the property mmers must be
accurately staked by a professional land surveyor prior to inspeaion.
12. Laterals running parallel to a building or structure shall be at least 36" from the tace of a crawl space or slab on grade
toundation and 60" from the face of a basement foundation wall. Spacing requirements also apply wiffi respect to
ffie ancillary structure's foundation depth. Ancillary shuctures (e.g. window wells) and offier utilities shall not be
placed aver or near the lateral. TriCo may adjust requirements where future acress m ffie lateral may be obstmcted
by other utilities. The rontractor should call m discuss further if he/she believes this muld be an issue.
13. All infrastmcmre mnnected m TriCo's sewer rystem may be tested, inspected, or televised at TriCo's discretion, and
must remain acressible and properly maintained.
