SUMMAftV OF UITERAL INSTALUITION REqUIREMENTS
1. Only one building may mnnect to the sewer main per lateral unless offierwise approved by TriCo.
2. Foundationdrains,sumpdrains,downspoutsandotherstormwaterdrainsshallneverberonneo[edtothe
sanitary sewer. Site dewa[ering systems shall never be discharged m the sanitary sewer.
3. The euisting sewer line from the building to the septic tank may only be reused if it is located under a building
addition, patio, porch or paved driveway, and the line passes an air test that is observed by TriCo. Contact TriCo for
more information about air testing requirements. The property owner is responsible for testing wsts.
4. TriCo shall inspect all new laterals or laceral repairs In their entire[y. Final mnnection to ffie sanitary sewer must be
observed by Trim. The property owner or contractor must notify 7riCo prior to backfilling. Inspections must be
scheduled at least 24 hours in advanw. If an inspection fails and wbsequent inspections are required, or'rf the
mntracmr is not on site for the scheduled inspeRion, a$100 fee will be assessed and must be paid prior to
schetlulingthe reinspection.
5. Septic rystem rontents or effluent shall never be dischargetl to the sanitary sewer. Be advised that your munty
health department regulates septic systems. Upon connection ro sanitary sewer, a septic tank must typically be
abandoned, pumped clean, and filled completely with earthen material. Contact your counry heakh department for
more information on septic system and abandonment requirements, and to notify the department of any
abandonment.
6. The follawing materials are acceptable for use in graviry sewer lateral installation ar repair:
PVC pipe: SDR 35 or SDR 26, ASTM D3034, 6" diameter
PVC pipe, preswre rated:SDR 21, ASTM D2241, 6" diameter
PVC restrained joint pipe for directional dnlling: Certatlo Greenline SDR 21, ASTM D2241, 6" diameter
All gasketed joints shall meet ASTM D321]
All fittings shall be SDR26 or better

The following materials are accepta6le for use in low-pressure sewer lateral installation or repair
HDPE pipe for directional drilling: DR 11 IPS, 125" diameter, PE4710
Cannections shall be matle via electrofusion or using polypropylene or stainless steel compression fittings
Electrofusion high volume tapping tee, rated 200 psi, PE4710
125" IPS full port 1/4 tum fusible PE ball valve, ra[ed 200 psi
Threaded swing check valve, 316 stainless steel, ra[ed 20o psi

7. For gravity and low-pressure rystems, the line leaving the building shall not exceed 3' in length before a deanout
must be added and the line is transitioned to 6" diameter SDR 35 PVC pipe. Glued joints are not allowed after 3'. No
atlditional glued flttings are allowed 6etween the building and the transition/deanouL For all graviry lines, deanouts
shall not be spaced more than 300' apart between the building and the sewer main. See TriCo's standard drawings
for more information on deanout installation,
8. Bedding material shall be placed from at least 6 inches below to 12 inches above the pipe surface. The trench shall
be a minimum of 18" wide with at least 6" of dearance on boM sides of the pipe. Marerial shall be placed over the
pipe and tracer wire after inspectian. Saft, unstable ar unsuitable material found below and near ffie lateral,
induding any fill ar foundation backfill material, must be removed and replared with k8 stone. The mntraomr is
solely responsible for establishing stable pipe 6edding mnditions.
9. H10-AWG solitl copper tracer wire shall be laid on rop of and run ihe entire length of ihe lateral. All splicing of tracer
wire shall use 3M splice kit motlel DBR/V-6, King Innovation Drymnn Direct Bury Wg Aqua catalog #90220, or TriCo
approved equal.
30. Laterals shall be installed at least 20' from water wells unless PVC pressure grade pipe is used. Any proposed
installation requiring pressure pipe shall be reviewed by TriCo prior to installation. Where a transition is made
between SDR 35 pipe and pressure grade SDR 21 pipe, a ductile iron gasketed mechanical muplings must be used.
1L Laterals less than 5' deep shall be at least 24" from the propercy line. Laterals more than S deep shall be at least 36"
fmm the property line. Where the lateral run5 in dose pmximity to the pmperty line the pmperty romers must be
aocurately staked 6y a pmfessional land surveyor prior to inspectbn.
12. Laterals running parallel to a building or struc[ure shall be at least 36" trom the face of a crawl space or slab on grade
foundation and 60" trom [he face of a basement toundation wall.5pacing requirements also apply with respect to
the ancillary sbucture's foundation depth. Ancillary strucmres (e.g. window wells) and other utilities shall not be
placed over or near the lateral. TriCo may adjust requirements where future amess to the lateral may be obstructed
by other utilities. The mn[ractor should call to diswss further if he/she believes this muld be an issue.
13. All infrastructure connected to TriCo's sewer syscem may be resred, inspec[ed, or televised at TriCo's discretion, and
must remain accessible and properly maintained.

The snnitnry sewer laterals and smbs termination shall be indicated on the eurface with a
detectuble metal post set immedia[ely above the s'aid termination point if full connection
is not immediately made.

Said test shall be mnducted accortling to ASTM FI417-92, and shall be witnessed by a
Dis[eict employee or the Dis[ricts repcesenla[ive. The tes�ing shall be iu accordance with
Table 1 as follows wilh 0.5 psi being added for each fool of waler above [he sewer line
being tested. Sewer lines shall be subject to visual leak inspection at downsneam
manholce with all visual Icaks bcing ropaired and subject to tclevising requcsts by thc
District.

been in place a[ least 30 days. No pipe shall exceed a vertical deflution of 5% deflec[ion

pipq and cast iron pipe). The deflecnon test shall be perfarmed with a nino-point
mandrel. Proving rings shall be available at time of test otherwise no testing will be
allowed. All mandrel testing shall be witnessed by a District cmployee oc the Dislricts
represcntativc.
The ends of all la[eeals are [o be plugged water tight wi[h a gaske[ed cap capable of
wi[hs[andiug a low pressure aic leal wilhoul leakage. Lataals shall be subjecl lo visual
leak inspection at downstream manholes with all visual leaks being repaired
Bedding for flexible pipe and rigid pipe shall be No. B crushed srone from 6-inehes below
ro 12-inches above the pipe. Manholes sha0 be placed on no less than 6-inches of No. 8
crushcd srone brdding.
16. Watcr linq utiliTy, and Icgal drain crossings and separations shall bc in accordancc with
the more s[ringen[ of [he [wo: 327 IAC 3-6-9 or the Dis[ric[s s[andaed drawings.
17. The trench shall be upened sufficiently ahead uf pipe layiug ro ceveal obatruction, and
shall be properly protecteA and/orbarricaded when lefi unaitended.
18. No water shall be permitted to �ow into the sanitery sewec system during cons�metion.
CoNracror shall utilize a pump m keep the wa[er level below [he pipe. Pump discharge
shell be directed m a storm outlet in accordence wi[h statc and federal laws and
regulatio��s (3271AC 3-6-20). Auy pipe en[eeing existing sewers shall be plugged wi[h
screw type mechanical, braced plug until such time as all lesls on the sewers and all
punch list iteme are complete.
19. All sewec latecals installed shall be bedded the same as the main line sewec.
20. Forty-eight (4R) ho�rs notiw ehall be given ro the Distric� prior to the start of sewer
cons[ruction. Also, 48 hours noticc shall bc givcn prior to doing any testing on thc
sewer.
21. Manhole castings shall be stamped SANITARY SEWHR (Neenah Casting R-1772 or
East Jorden 1022ZIG5) and bc self-sealing type. Tde mstin�,J[onge slrn[[ be 34 inchec
and the clear operzing sGall be mirz. 20- 13/!6 incGes. Watertighl castings shall be bol4
down Eas� Jordan 1022ZIPT and also sfamped SANITARY SEWER.

23. The Contracloc shall provide measurements of the slope of the sewe� foe each manhole
section as construclion progresses. Such measurements shall be certified by a Registered
Land Suwcyor or Enginccr and be availablc on-sitc for obsmation by thc DistricPs
Inspector. No more ihan lhree manhole seclions can be constmcted in advanre of such
measuremems.
24. In the event the Contractor docs not mect [he minimum slopes, thc sewer section and any
other affected sewer sections shall be reconstructed to meet such minimum slopea.
25. Latcrals are to be installed with a minimum 14 gaugc iracer wire Rom the wye to the
Icnninus. Upon laterel completion the contrectoc f'or ihe building or home will extend the
wire fmm Ihis teeminus to (he building cleauoul adjacent to the building.

Slandard apecifications of Clay Township Regional Waste District (the District) and
Dcpartment of Transportation QNDOT) shall apply for all work and matcrials. Sanitary
sewerpipe shall be installed in accordance with Section 715 ofthe current INDOT standard
specifications handbook.
Sanitary sewer grevity pipe, unless pressure reled pipe required per IAC or direc[ional dnlled
pipe, shall be Polyviuyt Chloeide (PVC) in accorda�ce with ASTM D3034-89 with a
minimum wall thick�ess designation of SDR 35 nnd ins[alled pee ASTM D2321-89
specificatioa PVCpipcusedshallbegroovedbell,spigoCend,andgasketed. Thepipeshall
bc madc of PVC plastic having a ccll classification of I7A54B.
PVC sani�ary sewer graviry fi[[ings shall also conform [o the requirements of Ihe ASTM
D3034-R9 spccification. All fittings shall bc moldcd in onc picce with standard pipc
bells, gasketed elastomeric joinls, and spigol ends. Single piece molded PVC with
s[andaed pipe bells, gaskels, and spigot ends for back-ro-back tee wyes are acceptable.
Wall [hickness of all fittings s'hall have a minimum desiguation of SDR 26. Gaske�s' for
elastomericjoints shall be molded with a minimum cross-sectional arca of 020 squarc
inchcs and conform to ASTM F477 spccification.
All sanitary manholes shall be precast concrete manholes in accordance with ASTM C47R
and Section 720 of the wrrent INDOT standard specifieations hendbook. O-rings shell
confortn to C443. Double row ofKent Seal or equivalent shall also be applied to alljoinls
and between riser rings and cas[ings. Manhole s[ep s'pacing shall be no more [han 16-inches.
Manholes shall be air tested for leakage in accordance with ASTM CI244-02, Standard Test
Method for Concrete Sewer Manholes by the Negative Air Pressure (Vawum) Test.
A. Installation and opera[ion of vacuum cquipmcnt and indicating dcviccs must bc in

which have been provided by the manufacNrer and acrepted by [he District Engineer.

D. If the manhole fails the icst, necessery repairs muet be made. The vacu�m �es[ and
repairs m�st be repea[ed ontil thc manhole passes the test.

disassembled and the joint sealants replaced.
F. Menholes will be subjecl to visual inspution with all viwal leaks being repaired.

The menhole chimneys, including all riser rings shall 6e sealed using Flex rib in[emal
chimncy scal manuFacNred by Cretex, NPC, or a Disiric[ approved eqoal. The flex rib
internal chimney seal shall extend fmm a minimum of 3-inches below the top ofthe cone
sec[ion l0 3-inches over Ihe manhole cas'ling t}ame o[ per manufacturers installalion
procedures iCdirected otherwise. Intemal Chimney Seal shall be inslalled atter manhole
