Poke-thru or floor boxes shall either be stubbed out with conduit ( B q located in an accessible ceiling area or will require a conduit run from the poke thru or floor box to the telecommunications room. Conduits shall be continuous from the poke-thru/floor box to an accessible area of the ceiling below and should not contain no more than two (2) 90° bends. 1. Conduits shall be reamed and de-burred to remove all sharp edges and material. 2. Conduits shall be fitted with an insulated bushing to protect cabling. 3. All penetrations for poke-thru and/floor boxes shall be fire-stopped with products and procedures approved by the AHI. 4. Use only poke-thru/floor boxes that are approved for use in floor installations that provide fire, smoke and leak protection. Cable Pathways - Block Cutouts and Sleeves - Riser closets should have a 12 inch by 48 inch (30 cm -121 cm) floor cutout in the floor and four (4) 4- inch103 mm) sleeves penetrating through the floor. To determine the minimum size floor openings and number of floor sleeves, see table below. All floor block cutouts shall have fall protection. Block cutouts should have a 1 inch (25 mm) curbing around the perimeter of the cut out. All TR's shall be identified with appropriate signage to identify the space as a telecommunications room. TRs should be located as close to the center of the floor to minimize horizontal cable lengths. TRs should be accessible from a hallway or common area. Unacceptable locations include boiler rooms, washrooms, janitor dosets, storage rooms, non-secure locations, and loading docks. Rooms that are subject to water or steam infiltration, humidity, heat, and any corrosive atmospheric or environmental conditions. Any location that contains hydraulic equipment or heavy machinery that causes heavy vibration, steam pipes, drains, or dean outs are unacceptable. All sources of electromagnetic interference should be kept at least 10 feet (3 m) away from the TR. Possible sources of interference include power transformers, substations, motors/generators, X-ray equipment, radio transmitters, radar transmitters, induction heating devices, elevator equipment rooms and photocopiers. TRs must be clear of plumbing or electric utilities that are not directty required to support the telemmmunications function. Cabling Length - Horizontal cabling from the telecommunications room to the work area faceplate shall not exceed 295 feet(90 m) in length. The distance is measured from the terminating hardware in the telecommunications room to the work area faceplate. Patch mrds for the work areas are not to exceed 10 feet (3 m) in length. Cabling Security Structured cabling for TRs shall not be placed in areas that are accessible to the general pubic or other building tenants. Cabling placed in areas accessible to other building tenant shall be placed in conduit. Pull or splice boxes shall not be placed in areas accessible to the general public or other building tenants. Boxes shall be locked. Abandoned in Place Cabling - All abandoned in place structured cabling shall be removed. Structured cabling indudes all 4-pair communications cabling, multi-pair communications cable, fiber optic cable and coaxial cable. Abandoned in place cabling is defined by the 2002 National Electrical Code Section 800.2 Riser Room Sizing -The minimum room sizing for riser wiring closets shall be 24 inches deep by 36 inches wide (0.6 m- 1 m). The determining factors in room sizing are size of the floor opening (slots) and or number of conduits/sleeves required. Wireless Access Points - Wireless access points require a minimum of one (1) Category 6a cable per wireless access point. Wiring Standards remmmends two (2) Category 6a cables per wireless access point especially in areas that are difficult to retrofit (hard solid ceilings, high end feature ceilings, finishes, etc.. This covers wireless access points for all areas which includes financial centers, work areas and data centers. No substitutions are permitted. Bank of America facilities should be wired for wireless local area networks (WLAN) as per the Wireless LLD. All jacks and patch panels should be Category 6a.
