MAINTENANCE
1. INSPECT PERIODICALLY AND AFTER EACH STORM EVENT FOR STONE DISPLACEMENT AND
EROSION AT THE
SIDES AND ENDS OF THE APRON.
2. MAKE REPAIRS IMMEDIATELY; USE APPROPRIATE SIZE STONE, AND DO NOT PLACE THEM
ABOVE FINISHED
GRADE.

EROSION AT THE SIDES AND ENDS OF THE APRON.

Installation: Remove the grate from catch basin. If using optional oil absorbents; place
absorbent pillow in unit. Stand the grate on end. Move the top lifting straps out of the way and
place the grate into the Dandy Bag II so that the grate is below the top straps and above the
lower straps. Holding the lifting devices, insert the grate into the inlet.
Maintenance: Remove all accumulated sediment and debris from vicinity of unit after each
storm event. After each storm event and at regular intervals, look into the Dandy Bag II. If the
containment area is more than 1/3 full of sediment, the unit must be emptied. To empty unit,
lift the unit out of the inlet using the lifting straps and remove the grate. If using optional oil
absorbents; replace absorbent when near saturation.

Installation and Maintenance Guidelines

Installation: The empty Dandy Bag should be placed over the grate as the grate stands on
end. If using optional oil absorbents; place absorbent pillow in pouch, on the bottom
(below-grade side) of the unit. Attach absorbent pillow to tether loop. Tuck the enclosure
flap inside to completely enclose the grate. Holding the lifting devices (do not rely on lifting
devices to support the entire weight of the grate), place the grate into its frame.
Maintenance: Remove all accumulated sediment and debris from surface and vicinity of unit
after each storm event. Remove sediment that has accumulated within the containment area
of the Dandy Bag as needed. If using optional oil absorbents; remove and replace absorbent
pillow when near saturation.

APPLY LIME TO RAISE THE pH TO THE LEVEL NEEDED FOR SPECIES BEING SEEDED.
APPLY 23 POUNDS OF 12-12-12 ANALYSIS FERTILIZER (OR EQUIVALENT) PER 1000 SF
(APPROXIMATELY 1000 POUNDS PER ACRE) OR FERTILIZE ACCORDING TO TEST
APPLICATION OF 150 LBS. OF AMMONIUM NITRATE ON AREAS LOW IN ORGANIC MATTER
AND FERTILITY WILL GREATLY ENHANCE VEGETATIVE GROWTH.
WORK THE FERTILIZER AND LIME INTO THE SOIL TO A DEPTH OF 2-3 INCHES WITH A
HARROW, DISK OR RAKE OPERATED ACROSS THE SLOPE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
DO NOT USE PHOSPHOROUS CONTAINING FERTILIZERS (12-12-12) UNLES SOIL TEST SHOW
A DEFICIENCY IN PHOSPHOROUS.
SEEDING
SELECT A SEED MIXTURE BASED ON PROJECTED USE OF THE AREA (SEE PERMANENT
SEED MIXTURE CHART), WHILE CONSIDERING BEST SEEDING DATES. IF PERMANENT

1. INSPECT THE SILT FENCE PERIODICALLY AND AFTER EACH STORM EVENT.
2. IF FENCE FABRIC TEARS, STARTS TO DECOMPOSE, OR IN ANY WAY BECOMES INEFFECTIVE,
REPLACE THE AFFECTED PORTION IMMEDIATELY.
3. REMOVE DEPOSITED SEDIMENT WHEN IT REACHES HALF THE HEIGHT OF THE FENCE AT ITS
LOWEST POINT OR IS CAUSING THE FABRIC TO BULGE.
4. TAKE CARE TO AVOID UNDERMINING THE FENCE DURING CLEAN OUT.
5. AFTER THE CONTRIBUTING DRAINAGE AREA HAS BEEN STABILIZED, REMOVE THE FENCE AND
SEDIMENT DEPOSITS, BRING THE DISTURBED AREA TO GRADE, AND STABILIZE.
