I urge Carmel to approve the Schneider’s request to continue as an AirBnB location. I stay with Pam and Vince multiple times per year when I return to Indiana to visit family. Pam and Vince are the best run of all AirBnB I have stayed with throughout the U.S. (I have stayed at more than 15 different locations using AirBnB.) In addition to great accommodations, Pam and Vince are very careful about who can stay with them, requiring extra personal identification not required when I stay at other AirBnB. They make sure that only guests looking for lodging are accepted, and they are very careful in reading reviews of their guests before they arrive. I have always had great experiences staying with them. The Schneider ’s AirBnB provides both a lower cost option and closer option when I visit to help with my aging mother who needs a lot of help and my brother who is being treated for pancreatic cancer. Pam and Vince’s location is by far easier and more cost effective than hotels that are a long way away. In summary, please allow Pam and Vince to continue as hosts. Their home is an important part of my visits to Indiana, making trips more affordable, and also a stress-free place to stay when I spend my days in stressful situations helping my family. My husband Bill McCollom and I are from Phoenix, Arizona and work for a printer in Houston, Texas. From 2013-2018 we traveled the United States following the construction of new preschools being built (Children's Learning Adventure Centers). For a total of three years, we stayed in hotels. Then in 2016, we found it frustrating to travel from city to city, making reservations and not knowing the quality of the hotels where we would stay. Most of the time we would pay higher rates for low budget accomodations, as was the case with the local hotels in Carmel, Indiana. Finally, we used the Airbnb App to make a reservation for our very first Airbnb stay with Pam and Vince in their beautiful log cabin home where we were able to reside in what we coined "The Lincoln Room", a big, clean, and comfortable bedroom with an adjacent bathroom. We even returned for another long stay when we had another preschool construction job in Fisher, Indiana in 2017. Both Pam and Vince “lived in their home” on our numerous visits, and since our first stay in Carmel we have traveled to other Airbnb homes throughout the country, about twenty in all. On all of these stays, the owners of the houses also “lived in their homes”, thus eliminating the opportunity for guests to throw wild parties or vandalize the homes as we tend to read about in current news articles. Pam and Vince have many returning visitors, several who we met while we stayed in Carmel. Some of them are working women who travel to Indiana and are uncomfortable staying in questionable hotels, others stay with them while they come back home to help out with family. Both of the Schneiders are very good about screening their guests and getting to know them personally. Bill and I finally completed our work with the construction of the Children's Learning Adventure preschools, and have been fortunate enough to purchase a second home in the Houston area (August 2018) where most of our work is now. I don't know if this would have been possible without our wonderful Airbnb stays with friendly hosts who opened their doors to us and made us feel welcomed. Funny that even though we have a home in Arizona, we were literally homeless while working from 2013 to 2018. We now have such great memories of our stays, especially the times spent in "The Lincoln Room" at the Schneider's log cabin. Please allow the Schneiders to continue their Airbnb business that is vital to their family and vital to many of their regular guests. AirBNBs as a concept and a business have allowed me to not feel so alone in the world of professional travel. When I am in a home, I feel at home. Pam and Vince have become part of my PHamily. (Meaning they've become real friends.) And I am confident that I am one of many. understand the concern of neighbors and neighborhoods of knowing "who is driving, visiting, and staying near our children, friends, and homes." And, I can assure you that Pam and Vince are extraordinarily diligent in whom they accept into their home. I use AirBNB extensively when I can not stay at a friend's home. Vince and Pam are extraordinary in how they treat their guests, how they protect their neighbors and neighborhood, and how they run their business. I trust that you'll find that out for yourselves, as you do your due diligence. I trust that you'll allow them to continue to operate their business and enable me to stay with them for years to come. I have known Vince and Pam for about five years, primarily as their AirBnB guest during the month of May and have also gotten to know them personally in that time. They are a truly magnificent couple and a positive reflection on Carmel, exemplifying in both spirit and deed all the good things about the city of Carmel, the state of Indiana, and the good people who call both their home. The City of Carmel website About Us page states Carmel is "...a place where companies want to locate, where employees want to live and where families want to raise their children." That phrase should also include "a place where people want to visit and experience the enjoyment of Carmel's community amenities such as arts, culture, parks and recreational opportunities." My family and I are aware of Carmel's positive community attributes solely because of Vince and Pam Schneider. If you have never been hosted by them, allow me to provide a short description. From the minute you arrive until the minute you depart, Vince and Pam greet and treat you as old, family friends. Extremely welcoming and warm, full of information about Carmel and the local area, the Schneider's are exceptionally gracious with their beautiful log home. Their home is comfortable, and the setting is quiet and relaxing; one is astounded to learn that they are located just a short 25- minute drive to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway or the airport, and only a few minutes more to downtown Indianapolis. If you are looking for local sites to visit or things to do, Vince and Pam are happy to suggest a number of options to occupy your time and show off all that Carmel has to offer. They are very respectful of their guests' privacy and if you just want to relax in the living room or catch a nap on their super -comfortable beds, you can do so and be left alone with your thoughts or a good book. In the evening, after returning home from an enjoyable day out in Carmel, they always welcome their guests, inquire if they had a good day, and invite you to join them and other guests on their back patio and deck for refreshments and good conversation. In short, you cannot ask for better hosts, nor could Carmel find better ambassadors than Vince and Pam Schneider! Over the years my family and I have returned to Carmel a number of times. Each time we eagerly look forward to our next stay with Vince and Pam in their amazing Carmel home. They set the gold standard as AirBnB hosts and are excellent citizens and superlative representatives of the city of Carmel. They exude everything good about the Hoosier State and your local community. I am happy to give my wholehearted endorsement of them to you.
