Carmel Planning Commission,
As a resident of the Village of West Clay, my wife and I have become very concerned about the proposal of the
convenience store/6 bay gas station at Towne and Main.
I’m not one who is known to waive the “environmentalist” flag, but based on the reading and research I have done,
there is a significant health risk for people, especially children living within up to 1 mile of a gas station. As the father of
an 11 month old, I am highly concerned about this. I’ve seen studies of increased rates of childhood leukemia and
increased respiratory issues for those in such proximity. This scares me and would lead us to evaluate whether this is a
neighborhood that we want to be in for the long term.
Besides the significant health risks, the increased traffic and impact on home values is also concerning.
The Village of West Clay is a unique place. It is quiet, quaint, beautiful and a place we currently love to be. A place we
can walk, bike, swim, etc. without environmental concern.
I ask that these plans be stopped. I don’t want to move, but would for the safety of my family.
Should the plans move forward, I plead with you that significant research and study be spent on the health
ramifications, not just the economic effects, take place.
If any of you would like to discuss this matter further you may email me at this address or give me a call at (765) 617-
9726. I appreciate your consideration.
Regards,
Kyle C. Lacey
