Dear Mr. Shestak,
I hope you are doing well. My name is Jackie Phillips and I'm a resident in The Village of West Clay. I'm writing to you in
regard to the Gas Station and Car wash planned to go in the Village of West Clay. It has been brought to my attention
that it has been approved on behalf of myself, fellow neighbors, and residents of Stratford. The problem is, nor did I
approve of this, I was not made aware of till just a few days ago. In all of the VoWC communication, it has only been
mentioned twice buried under a couple of letters, that Family Express Corp, was building. That name alone does not
identify it as a gas station. When we brought this concern up, it was constantly referred to as a Convenience store.
Which I am all for, however, there is a big difference from a convenience store and one that is a convenience store with
gas pumps and a car wash. It's misleading. I was told this was highly requested among the neighbors in the resident
survey. I took that survey and there was no mention of a gas station. I don't doubt that residents requested a
convenience store, what I doubt is that residents requested a gas station. The secretive nature in which emails were sent
to select residents, the disguise of a gas station under the impression of just a convenience store is misleading. If you
visit the petition (7oo+ signatures) going around and were to speak with the residents here, you would find that not only
are we not in support of the gas station, we were not aware. I understand that this was a part of the 'Plan" of VoWC,
however, we have the studies and knowledge that didn't exist 20 years ago on the health, traffic, crime, and home
values that are negatively impacted when a gas station is located in residential areas, schools, and senior care facilities.
Above all, I'm concerned about the health and wellbeing of my fellow neighbors and my family. The studies linked to
cancer, respiratory issues, and childhood leukemia are unnerving. Not to mention, we are currently dealing with Covid-
19, bringing something that could exacerbate those who have COVID and other underlying health issues, makes it
unbearable to think about. I'm also concerned about the increase in traffic, which we already have due to the high
volume of new homes and commercial construction being built in Westfield. Towne road is already incredibly busy and
the number of walkers, cyclists, joggers, and families that cross over Towne and the surrounding area would impose a
serious risk of an accident and heaven forbid, a pedestrian/child being hit and killed.
Please reconsider the ramifications of a gas station is placed next to our homes, the children at Primrose, and the elderly
living at the Stratford. It's our duty to protect our families, the vulnerable, and surrounding communities!
Thank you for your time and considerations.
Sincerely a concerned & upset neighbor,
Jackie Phillips
