HomeMy WebLinkAboutCorrespondenceHelen Hoffman Tyner House – CHPC Staff Report 2135 W. 146th St. is an historic farmhouse, located in once-rural Hamilton County. The original portion of the wood-framed house is characterized by a cross gable roof, with an especially prominent front gable. The oldest portion of the house is estimated to have been built ca. 1870. This is an increasingly rare property in what has become a rapidly developing section of Carmel. In addition to the house, there are a number of outbuildings on the property, including a large barn. The property still retains its rural context and feeling in many ways. The house is listed as a Contributing resource in the Carmel/Clay Township Historic Architecture Survey and is known in the survey as the Helen Hoffman Tyner House. Notable architectural features of the Tyner House include window hoods and casings, clapboard siding, soffits/fascia, and decorative brackets. There is also a brick entry porch, which was likely added around 1920. Though the house does have some exterior alterations, including several rear additions, most of these changes appear to be easily reversible. Historic features like clapboard siding and decorative millwork have largely held up well over time.
